Lori Nickel with a great article on Giannis and his amazing work in the mental health space

https://www.jsonline.com/story...support/70091667007/

" Giannis found the entire experience of counseling so enlightening that when the Antetokounmpo family talked about what they each envisioned for their foundation, he decided he would talk about mental health, too. "

Bucks have some work to do - first is obviously finding a coach. 2nd is probably signing Giannis

"If Giannis Antetokounmpo chooses to decline his $51.9 million player option after next season, (2023/24) he will be a free agent."

Nope. Giannis is under Bucks control for the next two seasons. He can't opt out until after the 2024-25 season, when he has a 52 million dollar player option for 2025-26.

What the new discussion is about is the fact that Giannis has the option to sign an extension of his current contract that would be for 3 years and 173 million. I believe this would tie him to the Bucks until at least the 2027-28 season. If he doesn't sign it this off-season, he can wait another year and sign for even more money (which is why it's not panic time if he waits another year- despite the fact that the media will play it up like he's planning to almost certainly leave.

Antetokounmpo is eligible to sign a three-year, $173 million extension or a two-year, $118.6 million extension this offseason. Assuming that he does not extend his deal, he is set to earn $45.6 million in 2023-2024 and $48.8 million in 2024-2025.

Giannis holds a $51.9 million player option for the 2025-2026 season, however, he is unlikely to pick up the option. The NBA is set to sign a new TV contract that same summer, meaning that even if Antetokounmpo intends to remain with the Bucks, he has plenty of financial incentive to sign a new deal when the TV deal rises.

A tweet from Giannis this morning:

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Everyone knows my passion and love for my National Team has and never will change. Since the conclusion of my NBA season I have been pushing my body to the limits to be the player I need to be to help our team achieve the goals we set. But after months of work and multiple meetings with medical staff it is clear that i am not ready to compete in the level that I need to be to participate in the World Cup. This was not a choice but my only option in ensuring I get back to the level of basketball I have worked so hard to achieve so far in my career. I am extremely disappointed in this outcome but this was a decision made with the medical staff. I’m going to continue to push myself to be ready for the next time my name is called. My personal, and our ultimate team goal is to qualify for the 2024 Olympics games and it will be an honor to represent my National Team next year.
Is he still recovering from the back injury in the playoffs?

It was a minor knee surgery.

I'm sure it's disappointing for Giannis not to play for the Greek team, but there is no upside for the Bucks in him playing in these games. The fact he misses this tournament makes it that much less likely Greece will qualify for the the 2024 Olympics - again, disappointing for Giannis, but much better for the Bucks.

There is absolutely an upside in him not playing for Greece.  The way Giannis plays he’s obviously a lot more apt to injury by logging more minutes.   If I’m the Bucks, I’m thrilled.

I also 100% believe Holiday and Middleton playing in the Olympics impacted their play and health afterword.  Middleton hasn’t been the same player since.

Giannis says it make more sense to sign an extension next summer and he wants to make sure the team is still competitive for a title before he does it.

Immediately, ESPN goes into crisis mode and has every reporter (including Ian Rapaport - who never comments on basketball) retweet it.

It’s so dumb

Not sure there’s any reason to be concerned about this.  There’s financial reasons for him to wait another year completely independent from what the team or roster looks like.

Also, any team with a healthy Giannis is automatically a top 5 team in the NBA.

It should be emphasized how much more he stands to make if he waits.

He can extend for 3 years and 173 million right now.

or

He can wait until the summer and extend for 5 years and 334 million.

It’s yet another example of lazy reporting.   As MP2 stated, he stands to make a LOT more money waiting another year.

I actually like the fact he came out and said what he did.  At least now there won’t be a full year of speculation.

I've used Wis River Meats for many years to process my venison. Good sausages and especially lundjaegers. I see from the linked site you can order online from them and have it shipped to you. The first linked site in Horicon also lists several retail locations where you can buy their stuff, plus depending on weather you can order online and have  it shipped to you.

I'm ecstatic that he signed the extension, but I'm surprised given how much more he could have gotten had he waited until next summer.

Still, his great-great-grandkids will be set after he picks up an addition 180 million guaranteed.

He's under contract as a Bucks until the end of 2027-28. He's now will end up being paid 460 million for 15 years as a Buck.
