I think the opening spread is directly related to Eli and Aaron. Eli has been very mediocre all year. Aaron is white hot right now. I think the spread will tighten a bit during the week but Aaron is different level right now.
SanDiegoPackFan posted:Agree, RMan....that is why the opening spread is curious. All the big bettors know the Packers history against the Giants in the playoffs at Lambeau. Then, look at the health of the rosters at this time and I'm not sure why the Packers are a 6.5 point favorite.
It opened at -4 on my site. I don't think 6.5 was real.
Correct. 3.5 or 4 was the open.

Eh, Janis! got called for holding on what would otherwise have been a big gain last night.

OK. All I know is I didn't just make up the -6.5. Maybe it was the opening line from the graphic after last night's game on NBC or on the NFL Channel's post-game show or BSPN's SportsCenter Show. But GB -3 would mean it's basically a draw. Thanks for the info BrainDed.

yeah, that was my point. Payback. Adams looked so pissed at him when he got flagged. Big gainer for Davante, and would have put him over 1,000 for the year.
Eli and offense can be explosive, but haven't scored big this season. The most points scored was 28 vs the Eagles early November. They scored 27 vs the Browns at the end of that month, and haven't been anywhere close to that to since. As close as they came was 19, in each of their last 2 games to round out their season, and that just happens to be their average points/game scored.
The Packers average 27 points/game for context.
I think that is a direct reflection of their poor OL play, which has hurried throws from Eli....and that's exactly what our DL has to take advantage of. They're not giving up many sacks, yet are only producing mediocre amounts of yards. My guess is there are a lot of quick passes underneath to avoid opponent's pass rush, but their WRs or TEs aren't getting any YAC. So, yeah, ILB play and S support to contain those plays will be paramount.
FWIW. their rushing game sucks. In spite of no "real" RB, we average almost 20 yards more per game. Normally, I'd say this really plays to the strength of our defense, but this year.....is it going to be the defense that shut down Seattle or they one that was raped by the Redskins that shows up?
Giants are a tough match-up for sure. Hoping the reports of their WRs partying it up all night in Miami last night are an indication of how they plan to prepare for this week's game.

Giants really don't have much of a running game - they rank 29th in the NFL in total yards and 30th in yards per carry. Their offense is literally OBJ and that's it. Rashad Jennings, Paul Perkins, Sterling Shepard and Victor Cruz aren't keeping MM and Dom up at night.
This game is going to come down to protecting Rodgers, not turning it over, and covering OBJ. They do those three things, I really don't see how the Giants win. Of course as a fan, I can be that arrogant about a win. Packers can't and they won't.
Packers 31 Giants 16
I hope you're right, CU! I would love to see us break that jinx we seem to have playing the Giants at home in the playoffs. Yeah, yeah, sure, different team different year yadda yadda yadda...said the same things in the 3 or 4 years back in the 90's when we couldn't be the Cowboys in Dallas. The stink still lingers.
The difference this time is we won't have a QB who wants to be anywhere but playing in a cold windy Lambeau Field.

How is that different from 2011?
This is going to be a tough match-up. Manning is a proven QB. The match-up of those WRs with our secondary is scary to think about, even if a slow track will help us out.
D-line/LBs will have to get to the QB. And the offense has to keep rolling against a top notch defense.
I'll be hedging my emotions by placing a couple dollars on the Giants to win outright. If the Packers win, in my warped mind it's like I paid for it.

Why can't a couple of us head up to the booth & announce the game?
Gotta get consistent pressure on Eli to protect (hide) the DB's.
Also RTFB like you did vs. the Lions. That keeps Eli on the sideline too
The chess game between MM & Spagnuola is going to be interesting. The Giants may have the best trio of cover corners we have seen, with a defensive line that has improved over the course of the season. They held a prolific Redskins offense to 10 pts. last week. Of course the biggest factor in that game was the 2 INTs that Cousins threw. If Cobb plays I wonder if we will see any 4 or even 5 WR sets in an attempt to get the match-up we want?
8-7-1 with a "prolific" offense?

Let's hope they don't graduate from the Max McGee School of Playoff Prep.

I'd pay to see Brak and Music City do the game.
