Congratulations on getting in very late on the 2012 dumbest post of the year.

So the play where Casey Heyward is standing in no mans land allowing Jenkins down the sideline is Capers fault how?

Never gonna happen. If MM was going to can him, would have been after last year's record defensive ineptitude. D much improved this year so no chance he goes unless its to a HC job somewhere else.

Going into this game, he vaults GB back into 10th overall in defense and IIRC 7th in scoring.

Don't forget king of suck Tramon Williams. Man he was awful. Refused to tackle and then when he did get aggressive it cost them 4 points and the difference in the game.

The 3rd and 12 play was fine, Hayward just has to play coverage and they stop them.

How is it dumb? How many times has our defense looked like keystone cops out there? Are you going to tell me this defense is good at the fundamentals? They can't tackle worth a damn, the cover guys play ten yards off the line of scrimage and still get burned.

Capers' defense has regressed in a big way since the Super Bowl run. And the "injured player" excuse only goes so far. The guys that are starters in there, Tramon Williams, Sam Shields....half our linebacking corp. They can't tackle, and they don't even try.

Capers isn't the problem. You can't win with pieces of **** like Erik Walden, AJ Hawk, Frank Zombo and Dezman Moses. Oh yeah, Tramon Williams played like a giant vagina out there today too. They need a third OLB to rotate in there and compliment Perry and Matthews, and they need another big body that can stuff the run.

Prevent defense = prevents us from winning.

Sure, lets show Minney all the good stuff we saved because we have to play them next week.

And I see the posters who come out only after a loss are right on cue.

He got beat today by Christian Ponder. Not Adrian Peterson, who ripped off his usual big game against us. But it was Ponder that made the big plays.

FYI, I was posting at halftime, and I said we were going to win the game, and if our defense has even a halfway decent performance, we would have.

Hell, while we're at it, let's fire McCarthy and Clements too. It's their fault the line can't block.

I thought that the Vikes used Ponder wisely this game. They didn't get behind and therefore didn't have to abandon the run. Nice mix of run and playaction with the occasional deep ball. Remember, the first game at Lambeau with the Vikes was hardly a blowout, only Ponder's terrible game blew it for them.

That said, we just have to scheme better and play better next week. Plain and simple. If we are the better team (and we are), we'll be fine.

Yep, Peterson did nothing except for 200 yards or whatever it was. Which game were you watching?

Players need to execute better and 37 points and 444 total yards just isn't good enough. Overall, a pathetic effort on defense.

At least Walden had one good stop. Zombo looked horrible with no pass rush what so ever. Moses was useless and Williams played like a candyass.

I will say that the prevent defense on the last drive was totally ineffective.

This isn't the 90's Cowboys we're facing. There is one star on Minnesota's entire offensive unit. Peterson. The guy's a freak, and might be the MVP. But you can't stop Christian Ponder?

Some of this is obviously blowing off steam on my part, but come on. How long are we going to give Capers a free pass?

This makes no sense. They wouldn't be playing Minnesota next week if they win today. There was a lot riding on the Packers to win. And if everyone is right about ATL, the Packers had a good chance to host the NFC Championship game. Now they'll have to win a playoff game on the road to even have a shot at it.

How about answering the question?

You know, they stuffed Peterson enough times on first and second downs to force third and longs. It was Ponder that (or the Pack defensive backs) that really beat them.

....I'd have to see the play agin, but it looked to me that if Hayward went with the receiver, Ponder would have run for the first down.

Ted is going to have to have another great draft to fix this defense. I had a horrible feeling that one draft/offseason wasn't going to be enough, and it's starting to shape up that way.

I'm expressing my opinion, and I'm not the only one that feels this way. And I'm also blowing off some steam in the process.

Nope. He's right. That post is ****ing stupid.

Getting Perry and Bishop back next year will provide instant upgrades to the pass rush, but they need to replace Hawk and cut every OLB not named Perry or Matthews. Another big bodied run stuffer is would also go a long way.

These are professional football players, Rusty. 99.9% of these defensive players were there in training camp, there in preseason, and have been on the team practicing throughout the entire season. Of course not every player we have out there is a star, or even a better than average talent. But not knowing where you are supposed to be on a given play, blowing coverages left and right...that is on the defensive coordinator. Forget the physicality (or lack thereof) from some of these players. They are not even in position to make a play, and the coordinator's job is to make sure they are prepared.

There aren't any surprises here. We played Minny earlier in the year. We have game film from all the games Minny has played during the season, and the're supposed to practice to stop these guys from Monday on.

If we got beaten by a better team, oh well, I'd chalk it up to one of those games, and look forward to next week. But time and time again, this defense whiffs at the most inopportune times.

Yes, the players, too, bear the responsibility, but at some point you have to sit back and say "hey, Dom Capers has been the defensive coordinator for several years now. He provides input as a talent evaluator. He has a say in what players make his squad. And while there has been improvement in some areas, this unit is not where it should be".
