It just seems to me that these mental lapses keeps happening time and time again. One would think these guys watch a lot of film. So, what's the solution?

I think the mental lapses are way, way down this year but that obviously didn't help matters today.

The only solution is to continue coaching the kids the up and hold them accountable in the field room. I have no doubt that instruction provided by the likes of Capers and Whitt is top notch.

No doubt.

Completely agree. Only a fool wouldn't scheme that way. I'd run away from CM all day long... right at Sally. Over and over and over again.
The DB's did not respect Ponder and what he could do until todays game was over ...

I hope they make adjustments and the overall D tackles better.

That was an almost fumble by AP that ended up a score and that was an almost intercept when Ponder flyball that ended up a score.

Crowd was harsh.

Turnover battle even or better next week and I got the Pack winning by double-digits ... But I'm Bias. Smiler
While lambeausouth's reaction might be just a little over the top, he does indeed have some valid points.
None of you can argue that the Packers defense hasn't come up short in many games over the last couple of years. KC, the last 3-4 NYG games, SF and Seattle this year, as examples. Or playing against teams with rookies or back-ups starting on OL, and we generate zero pressure against them instead of dominating.
How many of you curse when we play zone as opposed to man-to-man, and the defense allows a big play? Is that a sheme/game plan failure or strictly a player breakdown?
Not all can be blamed on Capers; not all can be blamed on players, and I suspect reality is somewhere in the middle of those two. Regardless, there have been some strange/confusing (IMO) defensive game plans against these opponents.
To me, there's just no excuse to fail against inferior opponents. Of course, we're not going to dominate everybody on every single play, but 34 points allowed to the Vikings can't be excused.
It might have been their worst performance by the D all season. Poor tackling, limited pass rush, blown coverages, and shaky 3rd down conversion. They simply could not get the stops when they needed them.

If they don't play significantly better next week they won't beat Minnesota. Very frustrating to see them lay an egg with so much on the line.

That was probably the worst thing today. Pickett and Raji were doing their jobs pretty well, and no one was coming up to clean up at the LOS.

Might have? The game in New York isn't even close. They were missing tons of guys in that game, the offense gave them absolutely no help at all, and Manning is 10x the player Ponder is. If we want to rank this one against the games from 2011 too, only the San Diego game was probably worse than this one.
This team as a whole keeps forgoetting to show up at times. It shouldn't take a quarter of football for players to start busting their asses to make plays. Hell they just have to take a page from Peterson and see the benefits from giving 100% all the time.

Take Peterson out of todays game and it's laugher for the Packers but with him in he motivated his whole team on to victory.
Dom Capers gambled that playing soft to slow AP down while forcing Ponder to win the game would bring home the bacon. Instead the meat was bad and we all got a taste of E-Coli.

Ponder never made a serious mistake and actually made some good plays. We'll see how he does next week outside. And Dom stop playing zones. They really sucked yesterday. That 3rd down pass to their FB for 14 along the sideline in front of Tramon was whorrible.

Moving on.

They in no way shape or form did themselves a favor. You never want to play an extra game...especially against a division foe that doesn't fear you at all.

That being said even though the defense laid an egg, they were a couple of breaks from winning a game that was going to be to win anyway.

You're not a real fan unless you want Capers fired. Read the Chat Room for information on this pressing matter.

I think you always want the bye. I suspect they think the same thing. The bye never hurt Holmgren's teams. The bye worked out fine in 2008. It didn't last year so does that mean you never want it again? I don't think you really feel that way.

Not to add gas to the dum fire, but let's wait until after the 49ers game before we anoint Dom Compers. Stuffing the Queens sans Ponder, or Titans to Bears offense isn't that impressive.

This. The 49ers offense dominated the Packers in September. Let's see how things go on Saturday before commissioning that statue of Dom.
I don't think anyone's anointing him. Just taking advantage of the opportunity to rub in last night to the knee-jerkers around here.

Honestly, some Packer fans remind me of Vikings fans given their spoiled entitlement and eagerness to press the when things don't go well. This is the best defensive coordinator this team has had in almost fifteen years, yet the moment a first down is given up "ZOMG CAPERS SUCKS DOOM DOOM DOOM THIS TEAM IS UNLUCKY" even if everything else has gone the Packers' way.

This isn't a video game folks. There are no cheat codes or fantasy drafts. This is reality. Capers and his players are human, and they give up points and important plays just like every other defensive player and coach in this league. You people don't deserve this team.
The fact we once had Bob Sanders as our DC should buy Compers some slack. Oh yeah...and that thing we won in 2010 being down half a dozen key players on D.

MM and TT are a different breed from most NFL leadership. They won't panic for anything, and so when things go south, and they stay the course, that REALLY pisses some folks off.

I quite enjoy their style, and especially watching people freak out over it.

just shows once again when it mattered most Capers didn't blink an eye.

Note: I am not at all coming from the position that Capers ought to be fired - far from it.

I am coming from the perspective of how many kudos ought to be given to Capers due to the game.

With that in mind, sure like how the Packers handled the running game, BUT, my gosh, playing defense against a team with a pass offense rating of -10 (from 0 to 100)?

Plant me firmly with the "Let's see what happens when they play a real offense" crowd.
@Packerpedia
The #Packers held Adrian Peterson to 69 yards on 19 rushes (3.6 average) through the first three quarters.

@Packerpedia
The #Packers pressured Joe Webb on 18 dropbacks. He had a passer rating of 7.5 on those plays.

@Packerpedia
The Packers held Joe Webb to just 61 passing yards and one interception through the first three quarters, while the game was still in doubt.

@Packerpedia
Clay Matthews has 6.5 sacks in 7 postseason games.
