Every time we think a game might be an instant classic, one team blows the other out.
I will say this game SHOULD be a lot better than the one we saw last night in L.A.
They're definitely hyping it like an NFC Championship Game preview
Several injuries to keep an eye on for the Whiners. Kittle obviously is a big one.
But Dee Ford got hurt yesterday with a hamstring (those almost always linger) and didn't return. DL DJ Jones also out.
Robbie Gould didn't play again.
Their T Staley is hurt again, was out.
GB is clearly the healthier team going into this one.
Definitely are. I think they've been saving Kittle for this one. Sunday the 24th will mark 24 days since he's played. Don't know how severe his injury is.
I think Staley might play -- he was forced to have surgery or his hand would've stayed that waqy & look like McCarren's. BTW....Staley is a great guy. I listen to him every week on the rock station 107.7 the Bone. He's the type of player you root for except when he plays vs. Green Bay. 
The D-Line injuries & WR injuries are more concerning for them. They held onto the football better yesterday & didn't have so many drops like vs. Seattle.

Let's just hope the Packers OTs hold up better against the 49ers than they did vs. the Chargers in the last road game. If they're whiffing like they were in that game, it's going to be tough.
We all like to think of the Pack's OTs as one of the stronger areas of the team, they need to show that this weekend and not look like reincarnations of Jon Michels and Allen Barbre like they did 2 weeks ago.
I admit that I haven't seen even one minute of a 49ers game this year so I have no idea how good they really are. Their schedule gets pretty tough with GB, @ Ravens, Saints, and @ Seahawks. So hopefully they will have some losses yet to come.
As for the game on Sunday the two keys to me are if the 49ers TE plays and the Packers OT cannot afford to have another OLE matador performance on Sunday.
Well....you're in for a treat because the Niner defense is friggin FAST. Very very fast. They have like 89 first round draft picks from picking in the top 10 for the last decade.
Rodgers handles the blitz probably better than any other QB.
Best way to beat Rodgers is rush 4 (get home with 4) cover 7. He knows how to beat that too which is dink & dunk but he'll have to stay patient & if the Packers are behind we have seen him be IMpatient.
Run the ball....a couple scrambles by Rodgers are always a good idea -- maybe an explosive play or 2. O-Line needs to be ready! No giveaways!!
On defense bend but don't break, pressure on Jimmy G plus a turnover or 2. WIN!
Last time we played in Levi Stadium, Packers scored at will, and blew out the Whiners. The crowd had a significant amount of Packer fans, and we were loud. I don't expect as large a turnout this year. Has anyone heard anything about this from our talking heads?

Said it before, I'll say it again. This game isn't going to be as tough as people think.
I view the poor OT performance against the Chargers as more an anomaly than a cause for concern. I'm saving that for the area that's pretty consistently struggled of late- the defense. Need to tighten it up outside the red zone and get a few more stops.
Remember that time in ‘89 when Majik beat SF with Montana in Candlestick? Tim Harris was a beast that day...

Kittles, Breida, and Sanders are the key injuries to watch on the offensive side of the ball.
The backup TE actually looked pretty good, but a healthy Kittles would be tough for us to defend.
Breida adds the speed element to SF's running attack that has been mostly shut down the past 2 weeks in his absence. (I don't think he goes next Sunday after re-aggravating the sprained ankle).
Sanders did not look healthy yesterday and if he is limited it is the rookie Samuel and a bunch of JAGs at WR.
Staley is not likely to play, which may be a blessing in disguise for SF because his backup Skule has probably outplayed him thus far in 2019.
Hope that Ford and Jones miss the game as that is a formidable defensive front with Bosa, Bruckner, Armstead, etc. rotating all game long.
And it would be nice for Gould to sit out another game as well.
Nice to see all 53 on the roster practicing for GB and the other team's dealing with injuries for once.

The Formula set by the Seahags was to load the crap out of the box, like 8-9 in the box, and force Jimmy to beat you. The whiners had 34 yards rushing yesterday. The Cards have a terrible secondary, thus the reason they blew a 16 point lead.
When they were rolling, the 49ers were RTFB game in, game out. And the Jimmy would do enough to keep defense honest. Now in the last 2 weeks, teams are loading the box.

I just saw the NFL Network's ranking of the top 100 teams in NFL history and I think that '89 49ers team was something like 5th or 6th best of all time. That was a great upset. I remember Brian Noble absolutely leveling Joe Montana on a blitz he didn't see. I give Montana credit for staying in the game after that one. He was one tough sonofabitch even though that was one of the rare games he didn't pull out.
Just watched the first drive, SF goes 3-n-out. DH takes it straight to the house on the first punt. Really wish you had posted that before the bye weekend. Damn that brings back memories.
I do remember the 89 game. That was one of those cardiac Pack games, down to the wire. It was absolutely tragic that team didn't make the post season.
Having a late season bye is always preferred. IMO the 49ers having a bye in week 4 is showing...they are a bit beat up and have shown some fatigue. Injuries have piled up and their stellar defense has leaked a bit lately : 25 , 27, and 26 points given up to the Cardinals, Seahags, and Cardinals again. Oops. The Elite One needs to score some points in this one.
Niners are all about their defense foremost...then their running game, and Shannahan. If Pettine can put this on Garopollo the Packer defense will have its chances.
Wonder how much the LaFleur brothers have shared ?? Will be interesting to see the chess match with all of the familiarity Shannahan and the LaFleurs have ??

Also hurt were cornerbacks Emmanuel Moseley (cramping; returned to game) and K’Waun Williams (stinger). Moseley made three solid tackles before getting hurt, and he also made a perfect pass-defense on a second-down throw in the second quarter.
GB is incredibly healthy for this time of year. Gotta cash in on that because it very rarely comes around.

GB is going to win this football game. No knock on SF, but GB is much healthier and coming off a bye. AR12 doesn't turn the ball over and he is protected by two of the best OT's the league has to offer. I fully expect Jones and Adams to have big games. The Smith brothers will get some pressure on Jimmy G and force him to throw us a couple of balls. A pick 6 is in Alexander's immediate future.
Oh... Blake Martinez will lead the team in tackles. Again.

In 127 snaps with Williams on the field and Jones sitting out, though, the Packers have actually been a net negative on offense at -0.05 EPA per play, which is the equivalent of the 2019 Giants, who rank 25th in expected points added.
If one back makes you the best offense in football and the other back makes you the Giants, I would go with the first guy.

LOVE IT when they're both on the field at the same time. Williams is a better blocker for Jones then our fullback, and both are threats as runners and receivers.
Unlike the MM offense, the D has NO CLUE what we will do.

I liked what AZ did to SF yesterday. They made that defense run to the sidelines and cover the field. Tried to tire out those gigantic DL and it was working.
On defense AZ dared SF to pass. Stacked the box and said beat us by throwing it.
I think AZ could easily have won that game if they had a little more seasoning.

Playing SF on the left coast, then turn around & have to play following week in NY. I don't care how "bad" the Giants supposedly are, that's not going to be as easy as the records indicate
