Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke to the media on Monday. Here are some highlights:

On Matthews move to ILB:
Clay Matthews is not an inside linebacker. He's a football player. We talked about it in OTAs, it was the plan to move Clay around and use more players on defense. We'll see where he plays this week.

Is that difficult to match up with?
Clay is a dynamic football player who makes impact plays. He has ability to switch plays mentally. For him to go in there and be as productive as he was, you have to give him a lot of credit for his instincts. I don't see the offense we go against, they'll have changes. It's what you go through every week in this league. You try to block accordingly.

On unscouted looks:

The value of it is in the first opportunity. There's an adjustment that's made. How they declare their run blocking schemes. How they clear their pass protection schemes. Is he going to be cleared as a defensive lineman or linebacker. That's the benefit of an unscouted look. Week 2 will be different. It has benefits first time out of the box.

On using him inside, more productive than quad:

I wouldn't have called him a middle linebacker. I don't want to get that specific. He played different position in quad than last night.

On keeping Aaron Rodgers in the game:

We prepare to play four quarters. It's a good challenge to have. It stresses your football team out when you start taking players out of the game early. You start pulling three, four, five players on offense, defensive side of the ball. That's what you saw at the end. I don't have a thing on the call sheet that says when you want to pull everybody. You don't want to do it until fourth quarter, but that hasn't been the case.

On balancing that:

There isn't a balance. You have 46 players. You start substituting players. Now you have guys who play 25, 30 plays a game and now they're going offense and defense. It's a great experience. How many times does your backup quarterback get to play in the regular season.

On Rodgers' checks:

Aaron at the line of scrimmage, recognition and anticipation is at the highest level of his career. That particular play, I think the defense thought he was checking the protection adjustment and I think only two of the players got it.

Is Rodgers best weapon the brain?

Always is. You can't play quarterback without the ability to process, anticipate and recognize. Clearly, I think the strength of any quarterback is his mental gifts. He's definitely at the highest level. I won't compare Joe Montana to anybody. I'm not qualified to do that, frankly. Offense Aaron plays in today is different from offenses back then.

On Josh Sitton/T.J. Lang:

Very valuable having those guys. I'm told they came out of the game in good shape. Lane Taylor, JC Tretter and Garth did a lot of good things. That's part of the job. These guys aren't going to feel very good for months. That's part of the challenge of an NFL season.

On McCarthy tripping over cord:

I don't remember the cord. I have a knee I'm battling and ran into Shawn Slocum. Probably didn't say the right words.

On his late challenge:

Bad challenge. Dumb challenge. Should've never challenged it.

On success with screens:

We've actually called a lot of screens this year. You probably can't see it on the TV copy. Our screen game, from our self-scout, has been very productive.

On Julius Peppers' speech:

Forget to tell Julius it was a 2-minute speech. That's why we were a little late for the game. It was one of the best we've ever had

I love woulda, shoulda, coulda...

If the Packers woulda drafted Bobby Busea McClellen he doesn't fracture Rodgers clavicle and they coulda won the Super Bowl for sure...

If the Packers woulda signed Jarius Byrd they coulda moved up in the draft and shoulda picked CJ Mosely. On that note, they shoulda picked Borland 'cuz he's from WIS and he's had two big games recently.

And then draded Bushea for Sproles. The Packers would be Eleventy Billion and One right now.

The NFL ruined the throwback uniform thing with their stupid helmet rules.  Last year, they made it so players have to wear the same helmet all season long (unless it breaks, of course). The rationale being that once a player finds a properly fitted helmet, it shouldn't be switched out for another one. Sad that we'll never get to see Bucco Bruce again

Agree Tdog and everyone else. I like the blue and gold combo, but if you're going to do a throwback, why not create it as close to authentic as is possible?

Funny story in that I always wanted a Reggie throwback from the 94 season, but you can really only find it in a Favre. I contacted a custom jersey guy, but he had issues getting a blank jersey to create the Reggie. So I bought the Favre and sent to the custom jersey guy and he ripped off the Favre stuff and replaced with Reggie. Looks awesome but I think the jersey is cursed due to Favre. I've only worn once because the Packers got destroyed. We all know that what we wear during games has an effect on the outcome.

Bostick, Elliott 'could be challenged to go' vs. Eagles

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke to the media after practice on Wednesday. Here are some highlights from his news conference as the team prepares for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lambeau Field:

Injury report

Did not practice ā€“ G T.J. Lang (ankle), G Josh Sitton (toe), TE Brandon Bostick (hip), OLB Jayrone Elliott (hamstring).

On Lang and Sitton:

T.J. Lang, Josh were in the rehab part of it today. We'll see tomorrow if they'll be able to do anything. They did the same thing today they did last week. They're probably similar to last week.

On correcting off the tape after a big win:

Doesn't affect anything as far as how it's corrected. We were on a victory Monday, so corrections are made later.

On the importance of Sunday's game:

I'm not thinking about the playoffs right now. It's important to think about the Eagles. Today's players are so much more informed. I think everyone understands the Eagles are first in their division and also in the NFC.

On Philadelphia's philosophy:

I view them. I think they're playing well in all three areas. Their offense is extremely explosive. The way they approach it. They've been very productive there. Defense, they're very aggressive. Special teams, they have a dynamic returner. I'm impressed with their blocking both on kickoff and punt. Winter football at Lambeau, returns will be at a premium.

On the Eagles' speed:

It's a very aggressive defense. They're very strong-handed inside. Excellent anchors as outside rushers. It's a very well-rounded defense. I don't think there's any area you think there's a weak spot.

On the defense preparing for the Eagles:

We should be ready for it. We still do no-huddle competitive drill each Wednesday. There's mechanics in place to prepare for a no-huddle offense.

On getting to 75 plays per game, but offense still connecting to that philosophy:

We've done an extremely good job in point production. We had 42 points at halftime on 30 plays. We've had a few of those this year. We're extremely productive with our opportunities. Our red-zone drives are way up, have to finish games a little better, but when you get into substitutions it affects statistics.

On Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez:

You have to pay attention to the whole scheme and whole system. He looked good in space. You could see the athletic ability.

On the Eagles' up-tempo offense:

The tempo is something we're accustomed to. They're stressing your communication. You have to stay in clean defenses. They moved a tackle over and we didn't make an adjustment last year and it was a 20-yard run.

On Eagles coach Chip Kelly's offense:

Watching Oregon during the scouting period was my exposure to what he was doing. I've always liked the concept. It was interesting to see how he was going to use the personnel.

On Bostick and Elliott's injuries:

It's going to be, I don't want to say a challenge to make it this week, but we'll see how the week goes.
