Would much rather see Rodgers surveying the whole field to see who’s open vs forcing the ball to #17. Things rarely go well when that happens. 12 needs to play within the system and take what a defense is giving you…

@TomSilverstein
#Packers WR Davante Adams said he has talked with Aaron Rodgers about the double teams he's facing and that maybe they need to just push the envelope on those and see what Adams can do. Like Rodgers, he said two-deep coverage is just a fact of life that good offenses must face.

oh well

@TomSilverstein: #Packers coach Matt LaFleur says Za'Darius Smith will be shut down for a while, which would seem to indicate that he's going on injured reserve. They want him to get completely healed so he can play lots of snaps instead of just in spots... LaFleur confirms that Smith will on on injured reserve, so he will be sidelined for at least three weeks. He's eligible to return any time after that.

Yep, if there's a double team then find the open guy. He's out there, trust me.

Sucks about Z but better to be smart about it. Get right then get back out there. Time for the hype train that is Gary to produce something.

Waiting for the dum dums on social media to start the Clay Matthews crap.

I don't know what's going on with Z but it seems he's not exactly the happiest of campers right now.

I don't doubt the back thing but him being a bit disaffected is worrying.

All I know is it's time for Gary to prove he isn't another Perry.

yes, pretty quiet on the Z front - can't believe players would let $ dictate the way they behave - I mean I get it but come on - this guy was the vocal leader - all of a sudden he's radio silent, maybe shit is messed up at 1265...

When Z. Smith restrictured this spring, he turned his 15 million dollar salary into a bonus. This helped the Packers by splitting his contract over two years for salary cap purposes, but he got 14 million upfront. Now that he played Week 1, the remaining million dollars is guaranteed.

The suspicion is that this is at least partially a business decision on his part. He knows he's very likely not going to be resigned by the Packers to another long-term contract and they save 16 million by moving on before next year. Why play if you are dinged up if it increases the odds of a more serious injury that ends up costing you big money?

I don't doubt he's legitimately having back problems, but if had just signed a big extension would he be going on IR or trying to play through it? Back problems are sometimes hard to evaluate, but this situation went from him being reportedly unhappy about not getting a new contract to being on IR without any obvious new injury pretty quickly.

Also, this is now make or break time for R. Gary. He's the only real edge rusher they have now. I know Preston Smith was good in 2019, but including playoffs he's at 4 sacks over 19 games.

Unless Gary emerges, no elite-level edge rushers with questionable talent at ILB is going to sink this defense pretty quickly. In other words, Game 1 will be the norm.

i also see that other teams wouldn't pay top $ for a guy who acts this way...if he wants cornerstone $ he needs to act like that kind of guy.  business decision that may backfire - but i think he is on IR right now so it doesn't matter short term

Z is one of the few playmakers they have upfront.  Yikes.

Kenny and Gary are the only 2 standouts.  P. Smith and Keke have to up their game from last year.  Lot of rotation with the young guys to figure out what they've got?

Sure as hell hope this isn't one of those over hyped teams about to do a faceplant.

Gary doesn't pan out that entire front 7 will be a liability.
