2014 NFL Free Agents

I think if the right guy is there at the right price I'd bring him in.  Safety  Stevie Brown of the Giants tore his ACL. If the Giants don't want him back and he's a leftover after the big money is handed out, I wouldn't mind having that guy on a cheap deal.  He's turning 27 next year so he's not too old.  You take risk with his ability to come back from injury, but there's a lot of upside there.

Doubt he'd ever come to the Packers, he's long in the tooth, history of injuires, will probably re-sign in Chicago and doesn't even play Safety.......but, what if Chuck Tillman were available and willing to sign??  Could he move to Safety.  He's big enough, a good tackler and good in run support.  He may be a little slow, but he was still playing CB well enough at his age.

It is hard to know what is happening with the injury problems. The hamstring virus on this team is really disturbing. No team can field a functioning OL after 2 starters go out and others try to play with back and knee injuries. No one should expect the #4 WR to achieve separation or the #2 TE to play like NO's Graham. Even with AR12, it is clear that GB would not go far in the playoffs.

It is not clear what has happened with the defense. I am inclined to think that TT, despite being an NFL LBer (or maybe because of it?), has not chosen well. Hawk was picked as a 4-3 OLB. He should have been traded or let go when GB went to a 3-4. Finding DEs for the 3-4 has been a challenge for TT's entire draft history. Maybe that is hard in general, but the one clear success (Pickett--not Raji) was a FA and not a draft choice (Jolly was a #4, btw). Why Safety and a true 3-4 ILB have been ignored for years is beyond me. They are the heart of a good defense.

PP, I think we have a sucky combination of players failing to execute their responsibilities, and defenses that can be easily schemed against.

My case in point is from yesterday's game. Right before halftime, Bush had a big run off left tackle. As the defense is lining up before the snap, Burnett was the extra defender in the box (Aikman was commenting on this pre-snap), and was lining up on the right side of the defense. The Lions sent a guy in motion left-to-right, and Burnett followed this guy. Once the DL/LBs were blocked, Bush ran to the exact spot Burnett had vacated, and, predictably, there was no contain.

That's on the defenses called, the scheme/game plan, and/or coaching.
