Now that everyone is bashing on James Jones, I posted that we should trade him before the draft deadline in October and I got critized beyond belief. I was told that we needed him as out third receiver and we couldn't afford to trade him. Now thats all your talking about. Whats his trade value, will we reales him and so on. We could havbe got at least a third or the OSL we needed at the time.
BTW, What is the Draft Deadline in October?
JJ value to me is NIL
JJ get a good off season of driving concentration into his brain and he is a solid receiver. You don't give up.
I'm probably in the minority here...but I still want him on my team....
he can be atease like Turd Ferguson at times...but, he's better than him and is a good complement to Jennings and Driver.
the only variable here is how good Swain can be. and what role JJ will have once Finley returns....

I definitely still want him on this team. His flaws are coachable.
Jordy Nelson is going to have some say in this. Nearly 600 yards as the #4 receiver, he's not to be overlooked. The guy has real talent.
If Driver is hurt (as he looked like at end of game), Jones will be needed to come up with a complete game next week--ie , no drops.
We need JJ. He's had some monstrous drops but he's a playmaker. He'll probably have a huge day in Atlanta.
The positive about Jones' day today is that likely cost him an eight figure contract. This means he's more likely to come back to Green Bay on the cheap. I just can't imagine a team giving him big money after seeing him fail in the clutch so many times this year.
He reminds me of a poor mans Braylon Edwards. He can't ignore him b/c he gets open but he drops too many to be considered anything special.

Some cleverly disguised stickum might help.
I agree. He's not so expensive that you don't keep him and give him one more chance in a full regular season to reduce the dropsies.quote:Originally posted by SanDiegoPackFan:

Outside of the dropsies, he is a difference-maker #2 wideout and his YAC is real solid.
For those who intimate Jones has no value or is useless, I ask this: You can't be serious???
Sure, I get annoyed with some of his drops or lackadaisical play at times. But the guy has skills. And I think he'll get some serious suitors in free agency.

I'm worried that these drops have taken an Ankiel-like toll on his head. I wouldn't shed a tear if he's not back, but I agree he can be a force if he figures it out. I'd sure hate to see that happen in purple.
JJ needs 24 -7 of the jugs gun!

I think Mr. Jones' value is demonstrated by how many times he was targeted after the drop.
Announcers said during the game MM siad Jones problem is not his hands but rather his concentration. I would ten to agree.
IMO one sure way to get his attention and have him pay attention would be to make him the #5 WR going into Atlanta.

Excellent point MC. Even with the drops, Rodgers keeps throwing it too him. Either AR has confidence in him, or Jones just seems to find a way to get open.

There were few options.
Jones gets the second best CB and proves it over and over again why. It's up to him if he wants to be on the Packers next year. I'm sure they'd like him back but there's no way they overpay for what he brings.
Still compare him to Ferguson, proved it once again. Cant be trusted. He has risen to the point of cringing when the ball is in the air to him as to what might happen. I love the quote " Jones drops the ball a AGAIN!"
But, Jones is WAY more productive than Ferguson ever was.quote:Originally posted by runningdirt:

Jones numbers after 4 season are far superior to Ferguson's.
It's hard not to critique Jennings as well. Understandable that he had limited opportunities when the other WRs were going against someone other than Asante Samuels. Inexcusable that he let another one ping right off his hands when he had the opportunity.
Quarless gets a + for making the most of his opportunities.

I guess your right, he is a good man and proved it again tonight. Should probably throw to him more. I know in the day Favre would cop an attitude and not throw to a guy he didn't trust even if open, instead picking triple coverage on someone else. Fergy proved his worth. Do you trust Jones in a pinch?
Maybe I am off on this- I don't think a single pass went Jones' way after the drop. I guess that's the point I was trying to make.
Didn't see much outa Jordy tonight, either.
The offensive gameplan seemed to identify the intermediate game with TEs and RBs a little more than WRs.

MC, I thought that was your point and I think you are correct.
The difference between Fergy and JJ is that JJ can get separation that Fergy couldn't. JJ is far superior to Fergy despite the mental lapses. It seemed like as a rookie JJ caught almost everything.

And with his hands too. The guy amazed me as a rookie how he pulled balls out of the air with hands. Doesn't seem to be a lack of ability.
I really want to give this kid a chance but Mutha F***.
It's one thing to have a brain fart say every 8 games. But my Gawd this kid has one damn near every week. If the CBA is signed and he's a FA?
Buh bye now. I just can't see him getting any better after he cashes in.

There is a whole lotta dumb in this thread.

He gets open on that play weekly. He dropped the exact same pass last week. He has scored a number of tds over the last 2 years on the same play. For some reason nobody can cover him on that play. I would make that pass to. He just needs to catch it.
he's a very good third reciever. As long as he doesn't get elevated from that I am cool with him.
Would love to see more concentration (like on the TD catch) though.
Not willing to sign him for big bucks.

I agree on all 3 points.
I am glad that that Tramon Williams bailed out the Packers at the end, because had he not made that pick and Philly somehow wins the game then James Jones is the goat of Wisconsin- along the lines of a T-Buck.
There is absolutely no excuse for him dropping that wide open TD right before half. He makes that catch and the game is over. As it was the Packers pulled it out but it could have been a disaster.

focus. No mistakes in ATL.

+1. Us getting that TD right before half would've been the dagger.
Capers would've blitzed Vick into oblivion in the second half.
Jones pisses me off, mainly because the guy has shown he has the talent to be an elite WR in this league, yet he continues to make critical mistakes. My patience with him is wearing thin, but you gotta bring him back IMO.

This is the quintessential bugaboo with the 2010 Packers. They made enough mistakes this game to keep Philly in it until the end. They do that next week and ATL advances to the NFC Championship game.

Ping.
It doesn't bode well that the Packers continue to make mental errors at this point in the season. It's not how you win playoff games. Dropped passes have gone from anomoly to trend and sooner or later it is going to cost a game
