A lot of talk of Janis getting PT to give us a deep threat. Obviously the coaching staff does not feel he is ready. Being a receiver in this, and most NFL offenses is much more than just running a predesigned route.

The West Coast Offense is conceptual in nature and has similarities to Lombardi's Packer Sweep & Bob Knight's motion offense, in that every player "reads the defense" and moves accordingly. With the sweep, each blocker had to see where defenders and his other blockers were to know what he had to do, & then the RB had to do the same. Same thing with motion offense, screener, cutter, & passer had to all "read" the same thing to make it work. The big difference with this "conceptual" approach to the passing game is that if the QB & receiver do not "read" the same thing, there is a high probability of an Interception (as opposed to just a negative run, or a cutter not getting open). Since Janis has hard a hard time even with pre reads (lining up incorrectly), one can assume he has not yet learned to"read" the defense. An example may be....you are running a go route, the read is that if the defender gets his whole body 3 yards ahead of you, it becomes a stop and back shoulder throw. If Janis does not read it correctly and keeps going, or stops when he shouldn't, & AR reads it correctly and throws to where he is supposed to, there is a high chance for an INT. . Coaches know that the number one stat in outcome of any game is turnover differential. They are not willing to play someone who increases chances for turnovers.

We need to get this out into the media, best explanation I've heard yet.  Once they name Philbin to assistant Defensive Coordinator, I suspect we start seeing a lot more sanity in the casual talk of casual fans.

that will stop all the clamoring for Janis to get PT

They're saving him for the playoffs / Super Bowl.

I think Janis can run a go route up the seam, from what I've seen in the pre-season.

Problem is, the defense will know exactly what's coming as soon as he comes into the game. Unless it isn't on tape.

Boot = Genius

I wrote this in the other thread but makes sense why AR is on Janis' case about not getting the play book.  Janis is the best (and probably only) option to take the top off the defense like Nelson could and Rodgers know is.  But like you say, this offense is complex and I have no doubt that this is the first time Janis has seen any of this.  It's why he was a 7th round pick - if he was 1 year away from realizing his potential, he would have gone much higher in the draft.

Despite his limitations, I would still like to see Janis get in there and run a few go routes where he doesn't have to worry much about route adjustments.  Even if the defense knows it's coming, they'll still have to cover deep and may open up stuff underneath.  Plus, he'll get some playing time and might actually catch a few deep passes.

Unless Adam's injury gets worse, TT is gonna draft another WR next year and Janis and Abby are both gonna get cut without ever doing anything meaningful for the team.

Mark it down.....and lets all stfu about Janis and Abby already.

Have a nice day!

5-0

#1 team in the league

and people are kvetching about a 7th round pick from a D2 school and has only played in a handful of games not pulling his weight....

....Jesus ****.....

I'm far more concerned about comments like "While I realize Janis hasn't caught a pass this year. He deserves Pro Bowl consideration for constantly distracting safeties on go routes"

I thinks that's more than I could bear.

New Rule.   You are only allowed to discuss the Packers current record of 5-0 and how awesome it is.   Any discussion pertaining to player development, areas of need or individual performance is not allowed.

Philbin is obviously the Japanese sailor that's been in the jungle for 20 years.

I realized it the moment I hit submit and decided to let it sit there for posterity anyway.

Really, the hurtful rumors need to stop. I don't want Micah Hyde to google himself and read these threads and start crying because he thinks nobody likes him.
