Sorry to ask someone to do my dirty work, but what is this compared to what Wells got in St. Louie? Guaranteed for sure...
FWIW, high praise from WalterFootball:

Packers sign C Jeff Saturday (2 years, $7.75M; $4M guaranteed): A+ Grade

This is a rarity. The Packers NEVER sign any free agents. Naturally, it's a great move. Green Bay desperately needed a center after losing Scott Wells to the Rams. Ted Thompson was able to acquire the top (healthy) player available at the position at a great price.

I'm pretty stoked about this move. It's a little pressure heading into the draft, and there's a few good prospects that should be ready to go when Saturday's time is up. A typical TT stop-gap signing, but I think this is one that will have some very good consequences for this team.

Length of contract definitely played a part, but I'd say the $9 Mil less guaranteed money was the bigger factor. You can't pay everybody.

IMO, TT had a budgeted figure for the position in mind. He would've been happy to keep Wells at his price, but he also knew he'd be able to find a serviceable player (with the glut of veteran C's on the market) at the position for the near term at the price he was willing to pay (not necessarily Saturday, but I'm pleased that it was) and then use a pick this year or next to groom.

And we still have a decent interior backup option in EDS even if the round/value equation doesn't present itself this particular draft (although I think it will).
Center Saturday feels Packers are a good fit

"We watched film, Campy and I, specifically about what they do different than what we did (with the Colts) and what would be different. Then we watched film of me playing and we talked about how I would fit into it."

Saturday said he was extremely impressed with the way Campen described the way the two would be able to help each other be better and that became a huge selling point for him. That, and the fact he and his family felt very comfortable with the Green Bay community and its proximity to his current home in Indianapolis.

He said after 13 years, he's excited to be working with a new offense and was open to learning new ways of doing the same things.

"I told him (Campen), I want to be coached," Saturday said. "There isn't a point where you have everything figured out and you can't do things better. The things I saw, I'm very excited about.continue
Best Player Available

TT & crew recognized the leadership from Saturday right away. Great on the field & off. I think it's cool he called Manning & told him he was staying in Green Bay. Wonder if Manning would've liked to come to Green Bay Smiler

Now let's get Man-Law & then draft the hell out of this draft!
McCarthy, Thompson thrilled to land Saturday

McCarthy was beaming this afternoon when talking in the lobby of The Breakers Hotel, site of the NFL annual meetings which begin tomorrow, about his newest player, the long-time former Indianapolis Colts starter. It was the first time the Packers have made any public comments about Saturday, who signed on Friday.

“He’s a very impressive individual,” McCarthy said. “He just brings a wealth of experience. I think he’s a really good fit for our offensive room. He’s very available. I was just real impressed with how long he’s played and the number of games he’s played in.”

Meanwhile, Thompson underplayed how unusual it was for him to sign a veteran free agent.

“We’re all very excited,” Thompson said standing outside The Breakers. “He’s a veteran, a very smart veteran. Our coaches are thrilled. They’ve talked to him, and it sounds like a good addition. It sounds like it will be a good fit.” continue

Who was that? Seriously, doesn't ring a bell...

First, I apologize for not addressing this sooner. Anyway, the guys name was Duke Preston - a 6-5, 315 lb, UFA from the Bills. He was cut during the 2009 training camp.
Saturday must have really liked GB:

@jasonjwilde
Thompson also confirmed that he was at Iowa's Pro Day when Jeff Saturday visited the #Packers on March 19.

@jasonjwilde
Thompson: "I did call Jeff before he actually came so he wouldn’t be put (off) that I wasn’t there, and it didn’t seem to bother him."

Colts 2011 OL - interesting comments on Saturday

from the article.

"I decided to do get another look at the multi-time Pro Bowler and his 2011 Colts teammates. I reviewed their Week 17 game against the Jaguars.

They didn’t play great against Jacksonville, and I imagine that they probably played like this all year. If this game was any indication, they were a bad unit. That being said, I don’t think the individual players are that bad. The problem is that all of them do just enough not to get beat."
I don't know how hard these guys were necessarily playing the last game of a 1-15 season. It must be difficult to play motivated when you're essentially playing for nothing. I think Saturday will be re-energized on a competitive team.
