The name escapes me, but I believe there was a Packers LB who had a similar injury, surgery, and played again. I know this has been discussed and there have been other players who have come back from neck injuries to play. I think the concern(s) with this is that the fused vertebra are actually stronger after the surgery and those above/below are possibly more susceptible to injury. I say possibly because I don't think anyone can say for sure.
The word is that it's not a black and white situation and that all parties have to work through the subtle points of the medical reports and opinions

Its going to take some time to come to a thoughtful conclusion, it would be a darn shame if they weren't able share that info with the rest of the league prior to the draft
I was always under the impression they wanted two Free Safety's back there and that the positions (SS and FS) were mostly interchangeable. That's why Peprah was backing up both spots I think.

My gut tells me they will wait another year and see what they have in MD Jennings or how the Woodson situation resolves itself before they bring in a high pick at Safety...Collins or not. If/Where they draft a Safety in this draft will tell us everything we need to know about Collins, MD Jennings, and Woodson's futurures at Safety. No Safety or a late round Safety means they're thinking 1 of those 3 will be the solution, but a high pick probably means they aren't envisioning any of them as our starting Safety in the near or distant future.
My point was less about whether or not they will move Woodson to Safety and more about how drafting a Safety early this year will mean he's definitely not going to Safety, confirming what is probably already true. It will also give a strong indication that Collins probably won't be here more than a season, if that long, and that they don't think MD Jennings is going to be the answer.

Got it and thanks for the clarification; for a moment there I thought you were talking about moving Woodson to safety Big Grin
I'm starting to feel more positive that he may come back, but my fears of him having to retire are being replaced by a fear that he's going to be very gun-shy if he gets back on the field. I certainly can't say I'd blame him. No matter how most people tried to overcome it, I'd imagine holding back on hits would just be one of those involuntary, gut instinct things a person would do after that kind of injury.
