Nick Collins is done. GB is ultra-conservative with injuries to begin with. Without having any results from testing, MM has already stated he wouldn't let Collins play if he were his son... Collins' agent basically agreed with MM in a follow up statement.
In short, GB had better find somebody to play that spot in 2012 because it ain't gonna be Collins. Maybe Jennings is ready?
OTA/Mini/Training Camp reports on MD Jennings and even Anthony Levine will be interesting to watch.
Not saying he's a long term answer, but when GB had a real pass rush Charlie Peprah looked a hell of a lot better. I suspect if GB gets that rush back, that DB group will be looking much improved-even without Collins.

Yuck on Harrison Smith. He is not the greatest in coverage where Collins was. Brandon Taylor from LSU would be a nice pick.
This makes me very sad....I just hope he doesn't try to get on with another team. Thanks Nick for all you did for the Packers. I'll miss you terribly. ![cry](http://timesfour.com/x4graemlins/icon_cry.gif)

I really like Smith. Center-field type safety, extremely fast (ran a 4.56), and plays the run really well. He's a hard worker and just seems like the kind of player TT would like.
I also really like Brandon Taylor out of LSU. When I watch him on tape, he reminds me a lot of Nick Collins. Another center-field type, plays all over the field and can make some big plays in the secondary.
Not to be crude, but does anyone know how much money this release adds to cap space?

About 15 posts above yours.

BTW, cap clearance from Collins according to PFT is a little over 3 million. 1 million will still count (according to them) because that is part of his sign-on bonus.
But with another 3 mil, GB is more then comfortable under the cap now for rookie and as well as future extension talks for the key guys TT wants to keep around.
You have a point Hungry4attention?
thanks joe.
Not surprised by the move, but still saddened to see Nick Collins released.
Thank you, Nick, for your service to the Green Bay Packers and the community. I'll always remember that SuperBowl interception. You are a class act who will be sorely missed.

Collins is eligible for $1.5 million in injury protection pay also if he doesn't sign with another team.
Time to hang 'em up Nick
Time to hang 'em up Nick
Which is nice, but he could get more playing if he could continue his career. That said, take the money and (don't) run.
I think the draft strategy should still be "it all starts up front". If you get good push with the guys up front it makes a safety's job much easier.
Not a surprise and I doubt another team will be willing to assume the risk.
Peprah obviously isn't the answer but I agree that TT will focus on fixing the rush first unless the right player is there.

Peprah was the answer 2 years ago during the SB run. I agree an upgrade over Peprah would help quite a bit but improving the pass rush is the key to "fixing" the secondary.

I'm not a doctor, and I'm certainly not as knowledgable about Packer football as some of you dumb asses, but methinks Collins will be playing for the green and gold next season. Call it a hunch.
Swwwwwwwing and a miss! Sad day for Packer fans.
Oh, and sorry for calling you dumb.

Every now and again I get something right. Thanks for noticing Jethro.
Sad to see Nick go. He was such an impact to the defense. He was a major reason they were a top 5 with him and a bottom third without him. I hope to see him happy and healthy in the future.
Another great #36 that has his career cut short as safety in GB
Butler was one of my all time favorite players, and while Collins didn't play that long he was pretty damn good as well
It'll be interesting to see if he lands with another team

Edgar Bennett was/is one of my all-time favorite Packers. EGB was great in "weather".
Unfortunate for Collins and the Packers. But life goes on. This was one of those situations where "no news...is bad news". I figured the longer this decision was taking, the more likely it was not going to be a good one.

Nick Collins lives in GB all year-round, right?
It's been a rough 1-2 punch this week,; first Cliffy's release and now Collins'. ![Frowner](http://timesfour.com/x4graemlins/icon_frown.gif)
They both weren't totally unexpected, but that doesn't soften the blow.
Nick should buddy up with Chad. I hear there's lots of good fishin' in WI and TN both.

He'll always have that great INT in the Super Bowl, like Al Harris' TD in OT over the Seahawks.

Two of my favorite plays. How about other individual plays (no QB-to-whomever) in playoff games to win or change the course of play? Starr's sneak? Maybe Desmond's kick-off return in the Super Bowl? Interesting thing to ponder...
