Herschel again!

Just for posterity, we should probably include Al's definition of casual:

As to what a casual is, it's not really a putdown or insult, as many think. I'm a casual Bucks' fan, for example. Most season ticket holders are casual, even though they see a lot of games. I've heard people at MP asking who the Robinson is and why is his #42 is retired. I've heard a couple say Frank Robinson must have played with the Braves at some point. People boo when they're pitching around the #8 hitter and call for a new pitcher.

Brewers making 2-3 year offer to Clint Barmes. Link when one available.

EDIT: Brewer Nation also reporting this.

Pirates leading for Barmes, per Rosenthal. If the Crew wants him, it may take a 3rd guaranteed year.

ADDED: Heyman says Barmes close to deal with PIT. He is from Indiana, so he may well just want to play there.

Brewers 1st Barmes offer was 2+ option. Pirates offered 3 guaranteed years at more total money than Milwaukee's full offer.--Brewer Nation

Many are reporting Barmes is close to signing a two year deal with PIT.

UPDATE: Heyman is reporting Barmes will sign a 2y/$11M deal with PIT. You can pretty much just count on some folks to be wrong.

Clearly those Brewernation guys are morons.
Al was a big fan of Yuni, I'll have to look and see for myself what he thinks of our new SS.

Shortstop

Offensively, Betancourt and Gonzalez are pretty much mirror images of each other: low-OBP hackers with a little pop for shortstops. In nearly the same total of plate appearances, Betancourt created about 48 runs, Gonzalez about 50. The big difference comes on defense, where Betancourt (having a good season for him) scored at minus-6 but Gonzalez at plus-15.

Offensive difference: +2 runs
Defensive difference: +21 runs

This estimate has Gonzalez being about 19 runs better than Yuni. I think part of Yuni's good defensive season was the heavy shifts Ron used to protect him. I'm guessing you still see shifts, but not as dramatically as when you saw Yuni out there.

As for offense, it almost seems like Melvin was looking to replace Prince's offense in some other places beside SS.

Tipsy Tow offered by AAA: You don't have to be a AAA member, from 6pm-6am on New Year's Eve/ Day they will take your drunk self and your car home for FREE. Save this number... 1-800-222-4357

This must be a huge expense for AAA, though it'd be far more impressive if they would do it anytime.

Not sure where Al found that tidbit online, but he makes a profound point; if they would offer something free all the time, instead of just on a special occasion, it would be more expensive. He's probably taking buisness classes.

This is Al thinking through why the Crew should not extend Grienke. (Side note, Al haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaates Grienke). Glad to know anxiety issues have to be treated like an alcoholic, and not say, a diabetic. CB's mentor does know how to frame things.
