I don't get the pundits who pick the Packers with the main reason being they didn't have Starks in the first game. The Packers couldn't run the ball vs. ATL, not because the backs were so bad but because they had nowhere to run. Starks won't do much better if the OL doesn't improve on the first meeting.

I see ATL schemeing to get the GB defense as gassed as possible. ATL coming off of 13 days rest, to GB's 5.
Tempered by the fact that the Pack has the momentum. The old "gas vs. rust" debate. Momentum versus inertia.

Check the blogs: Mike is limiting reps this week.

I'm thinking fatigue could be a problem late in the game, but hoping the Pack will have a good lead by then and Atlanta will be playing catch-up.

Only 11 running plays by the backs, and Kuhn didn't touch the ball all day.

I expect a slightly different approach this time around.

The Packers had success with the spread and the carries were limited because they weren't getting anywhere. OL had a rough day run blocking. They have to improve if Starks is to do anything.

On D they have to tackle Turner better. He ran through way too many arms last time.
They did indeed have success with the spread, but Kuhn should've gotten at least a short yardage carry or two.

Eleven carries just isn't enough over the course of a game even if they're not immediately productive.

I believe you'll see a lot of spread on Saturday too. We match up well outside, and IMO MM was going overboard to exploit that.

However, abandoning the run was a mistake that I don't see being repeated.

We'll see.

100% agree about the tackling.
The OL most definitely has to show up in both phases this week or we're not going to advance.

We don't only need more running plays, we need more plays period. We only had the ball for seven "real" possessions last time.
Atlanta doesn't make mistakes. They are above average in all aspects of the game. They are extremely well coached and disciplined.

I think Green Bay is more talented. I think we played an extremely poor defensive game last time, and we only gave up 20, 3 of which were solely due to ST collapse. I think we should have had at least 7, probably 11 more pts, 1 unfortunate fumble and poor execution costs us. And, frankly I thought the offense was average at best.

Comes down to a few things: tackling, turnovers, and offensive gameplan.

Can we tackle better? I'm hard pressed to think we can be as bad or worse than we were first meeting.

Turnovers? Don't expect Atlanta to hand us the ball. They won't. We cannot afford to give them any extra drives. That means AR has to be prepared to take the checkdowns, and the WRs have to know when to take the yards given and go down. I expect at least 1 turnover. Any more than that and the job becomes 3x harder.

Gameplan? I'd love for MM to review the Viking games, we hurt them early with slants, screens, swings, and got that pass rush slowed down. If we simply go with the 7 step drop, Abraham will be a factor. Finally we need 2x the rushing attempts this time. Last time we had 11 RB attempts. I want to see at least 22 Saturday.

A huge part of me think that Green Bay handed Atlanta the game last time, and we're on a roll and we should win comfortably.

My head tells me that Atlanta is one of those teams that continually make the opponent walk out after the game muttering "we had that game. we were the better team" yet the scoreboard shows an Atlanta win.

My head says Atlanta 24 Green Bay 20. Game is decided as Green Bay has to take a FGs once too often. Tony Gonzalez scores 2 TDs.

But, remember kids - the lesson, as always, is I'm an idiot.

Excellent analysis and I agree in the Big Picture. But I watched the regular season game again last night and the Falcons had (3) personal foul penalties in the first 20 minutes of the game. They also had some killer drive-killing drops by the WRs

GB moved the ball very well against their defense, just could not turn it into points.

Rodgers was clutch on (2) 4th downs, one to James Jones for a first down and one to Jordy for a TD. Awesome plays

As fans, I don't think we completely trust this team due to their maddening inconsistencies, but this squad is a very good football team right now and I like their chances on Saturday

Agree 100% on the tackling though disagree that it couldn't be as bad the second time around. The main reason the tackling was so bad wasn't because the D decided to dog it in that game. The main reason was because they had not seen a back like Turner before and what usually brings down 90% of the RB's they've faced doesn't often work on a guy who fills his pants with tree trunks. I expect them to do better because they can learn from past mistakes but I still see Turner breaking tackles saturday. Maybe not as many but more than most backs do vs. GB.

Agreed on turnovers.

I think execution of the game plan will be a bigger deal than the plan itself. Running the ball 22 times won't help if they're averaging 1 or 2 yards per tote. ATL knows they have to defend the pass first and if GB/OL can't take advantage of that, the offense will look much like it did last time. If they play mistake-free that could still be enough to win.
I agree with Satori. I watched the game again last night as well, and I think GB had some jitters, and made some mistakes, which they are prone to doing as they are still a young team. Atlanta is a team that doesn't beat itself, and they are very well coached and solid in all 3 phases.

That being said, there was nothing earth shattering about the way Atlanta played that game. Their offense, while efficient, with a good ground game, should not be overly frightening to the Pack defense. And their D, while a good group of players, can be exploited in the passing game. If Green Bay gets anything out of Starks, I look for much more play action than we have seen the last 2 weeks.

I think this is Rodgers coming out game for the world. Someone mentioned the 95 Pack and how they took it to the Niners- I think this is that game revisited.
Keep Ryan from those time consuming drives, and let your QB do his thing in the dome.

My heart says 30-13, my brain says 30-20 Pack.
I think it helps that GB has played them already. To some extent they know what to expect.

ATL is one of the best teams in the league at playing "keep away" in terms of long drives. The Packers need to disrupt that by getting after Ryan and forcing him to make mistakes.

Let's also not forget that this is a fast track and GB is has a lot of team speed at many positions. Green Bay needs to get out and play a fast break style and force ATL to get out of their comfort zone which is running the ball and playing ball control.

I don't know why but I was a lot more worried about Philly than ATL, even though the Falcons are the #1 seed.

Same here, and I too can't figure out why completely. I think Vick's athletic ability scared me more than anything. Atlanta is a very fundamentally sound football team, however, and honestly probably better than Philly. That said, I think the Packers are more talented, and are also playing very sound football when it really matters.

Packers have the best defense in the NFC, and maybe the NFL. Definitely have the best QB in the NFC, but the Falcons have the 2nd best. Falcons running game better than ours, I'll take our WRs and their drops over the Falcons corps. Special teams...I'm still not saying a word.

Packers 27 Falcons 20 and Urlacher poops his knickers

I don't expect them to hand us the ball. I DO expect our assassin Charles Woodson to TAKE one away from them via a strip. I also expect Ryan to throw us at least 1 INT. That's when we make them pay.

I didn't make a prediction last week and I won't make one this week. I see you have done the same as last week too.

This is working out just fine, thank you.
ATL nickelback Brian Williams is now listed as doubtful, and if he plays at all it will be with a knee brace.

That's going to hurt an already somewhat suspect secondary. 4th corner is a 2nd year guy named Christopher Owens.

Owens doesn't have very good size and he isn't very physical.

If the OL does it's job, Rodgers shouldn't lack for open receivers.
I know this is the part where someone is supposed to chime in with the obligatory, 'I'd rather we beat them at their best - I hope he plays' post, but screw that. After the injuries GB has been hammered with this year, I won't feel one iota of sympathy for any missing guys in an opponent's lineup until around September of 2011. Take Turner and Gonzalez out of your offense and I may think you're almost even with GB on that front - almost.

Doubtful any of these guys miss except Williams. But if they are a step or 2 slow it won't hurt my feelings.

Ding ding ding. You hit it. The Falcons are a TEAM. The Eagles were Vick, Jackson, McCoy. A good team is so much harder to beat than a bunch of individuals. This will be an amazingly tough game. Two really good TEAMS banging it. I dread it, but I can't wait.

Ledbetter your columns leave me scratching my head. Your statement that the Packers don’t think much of the Falcons is a joke. You clearly go on to say that the Packers say “They’re tough, disciplined and effective. That’s what wins. That’s who they are. We have to exceed everything they do. It’ll be tough.”You say thats not respecting us?
Go back to cheesehead land your columns are senseless. In addition what do you expect them to say that they don’t feel that they can win. Losen up your bowtie as it’s cutting off the circulation to the brain dude.

If the Packers figure out a way to stop Turner, ATL will have a wrinkle to counter. I can't imagine them having two weeks off and not coming up with a way to scheme past the one element of their offense than can get them beat.

“They’re very disciplined and very efficient at what they do,” linebacker Desmond Bishop said. “Both sides of the ball.”

The Pack clearly doesn’t think too much of the Falcons

“They don’t have the fastest or the strongest,” Bishop said. “They’re tough, disciplined and effective. That’s what wins. That’s who they are. We have to exceed everything they do. It’ll be tough.”

Again, the Packers are not impressed.

“We’re the underdogs,” said Jenkins. “We don’t have that much respect. It’s partially our fault. We didn’t finish games.”

I think GB wins this one going away.

Green Bay - 34
Atlanta - 21

Not as good as the clucker but I smell better and am much better looking.
