Comment From Hugh Jasole: Mike, what is your greatest Packers memory as a child?

Mike Spofford: Going to my first NFL game, Packers-Bears at Soldier Field in 1984, watching Walter Payton QB a few plays because injuries were taking everyone down left and right. Then Rich Campbell threw a 40-yard TD pass to Phil Epps in the final minute and the Packers won in the most improbable of ways. I'll never forget it.

Coincidence? Or does Mike monitor the happenings at X4?

How about  Arthur Brown for  Morgan "Burn'ette ?

If they can get a legitimate ILB for Starks, they need to pull the trigger. They can sign Ryan Grant if they're worried about a backup. If Lacy goes down, they still have a guy named Aaron Rodgers to carry the team. They need at least one guy in the center of the defense who can cover and tackle. If they get one at ILB (either via trade or backup) and a run stuffer at NT in the form of Pennel and/or Boyd, this team might still have a chance to make some noise this year.

No doubt it would be great to get a ILB !  But it's  been so long since we've had such a formidable RB group that I think they hesitate to get rid of Starks . As I said, none of the three have proven to be very durable. Offense first in GB.

Not sure if the Ravens can grind it out with Pierce and Forsett carrying the load at RB.  But interesting to me why they would be willing to give up on a guy they coveted enough to move up to get. I know Mosley is the new toy, but awfully early to give up on a second round pick if only from a depth perspective. Defense first in Balt.

Don't be too quick to trade Starks.

He could be starting this week for all we know. Not to mention he has been running well since coming back from his last injury (last year, I think?).

Obviously, if he was traded, we do have Harris and Lacy will likely be ready sooner than later. And there's a guy or two on the PS. But all of a sudden, you can go from a position that's relatively deep to one that's razor thin.

Authur Brown is currently 3rd on the Ravens depth chart. I don't think trading Starks for a guy who may or may not be as good as Barrington/Lattimore/or possibly Perry/Bradford makes a whole lot of sense.

And as bad as the stink is that's coming from the ILB outhouse, let's not forget about Joe Thomas who might be the best ILB prospect in GB that's spending a year on the IR.

I say find the best two ILB's in GB (whoever those two guys are), play them and start Ha Ha and see what happens.

2015 draft you go Denzel Perryman out of Miami or Eric Kendricks out of UCLA at ILB and never look back.

I think a big part of the problem is the β€œDraft & Develop the β€˜best player available’ and generally to heck with free agency” mantra.

When ILBs aren’t ever the β€œBest Player Available” when you draft, then free agency and trades are the only other ways to fill them, and trades aren’t that common.  Guys like Karlos Dansby were available. Sure, they get good money and they’re not long-term answers, but if you want to win championships you can’t have gaping holes in the core of your team.  And when you haven’t drafted to fill those abyssal maws…

Look at Seattle. Their offensive line is decent but are rock solid at LT and C. Their receivers aren’t great, but are decent (with Harvin a brittle standout).  Those are their weakest positions. Defensive End would be weak but Schneider filled in with free agency.

Compare with Green Bay. The offensive line is rock solid at guard, the positions most able to cover up. They’re trying to be serviceable at T and C these days, with varying degrees of success (though I have hope for Tretter if he can ever be healthy). The ILBs are an utter hole in the defense, and the D-Line is an utter disappointment.

TT/Russ Ball have been very good at working the cap and it would be nice to see them fill a couple of holes now & then with quality players. Woodson and Peppers are it in 10 years (and neither were greatly coveted by other teams at the time) and ILB has been a hole for five.

Physically, Lattimore also will be taking the field at full strength, which he confessed on Friday he wasn’t last year. It wasn’t evident in his play – which included a career-best 14 tackles against Cleveland in Week 7, plus sacks in back-to-back games – but Lattimore was dealing all season with some sort of mysterious illness or virus that was never officially diagnosed.

He didn’t mention it publicly or complain, but his words Friday suggested the ailment prevented him from maximizing on his first chance to start. -packers.com

I don't quite know what to make of that but there it is.

I seriously doubt that. If the quad was OK, I'm guessing he'd be out there again this week. It takes a lot more than one terrible game to get a defensive player benched by this coaching staff.

Jones has done absolutely nothing to date that would indicate the rather generous contract TT gave him was a shrewd move. Seems pretty clear to me that MM is using the rather mysterious quad injury as cover to provide Lattimore an opportunity to grab the starting job and run with it. Brad Jones has set the bar so unbelievably low with his poor play that being an upgrade shouldn't be all that difficult.
