Happens every year. A 12 always beats a 5, maybe 2 or 3 times actually. #5 Auburn only won by 1.
I picked Murray State on all of my boards. Marquette was way overrated.
Also, do not be surprised if Oregon dumps the Badgers tomorrow.
Heck, in my No. 1 mock, I picked Oregon. It's not that I don't like the Badgers, it's just that Oregon has a lot better athletes than does Wisconsin. The Big However-Many-These-Days could use a mainline infusion of athletes. The Midwest grows 'em tall, slow, and strong; the West, Northwest, and Southeast grow athletes; the mid-Atlantic grows smart, efficient players; the Southwest is still trying to figure out how to grow anything since Lute left; the Northeast grows team owners.
This year is interesting since there's not a real consensus on the top of the elites. Duke, for all its Zion and Reddish, is a collection of individual parts. NC is just not the usual well-oiled machine it usually is. Kansas is off. Syracuse... oops, is out. And so on, and so forth... wide open.
It is always wide open but more a higher percentage of brackets have Duke winning it than any team in recent years. UNC has far exceeded everyone's expectations with only one NBA pick on their roster. IMHO there are 7 teams with a legitimate chance; Duke, UNC, MSU, Michigan, Kentucky, Gonzaga, & UVA. These are the only teams that are in the top 20 in both offense & defense in Pomeroys rankings.

Yep sure does and it is just a matter of guessing which #12 will do it so my bracket isn't blown up. I did pick Marquette to lose and I hate to say it I think Oregon takes out Bucky today.
Will Thomas's, Iverson's and Happ's Badger careers end today? Oregon is really good and the Badgers have struggled with their 3 point shooting, of late. Bucky will need to be firing on all cylinders in order to pull this one out and that is something they have rarely done, all season long. Still, I am pulling for Bucky to get this win. If they do lose this game, I want to thank Happ, Iverson and Thomas for what they have given Badger fans over the years they played for Wisconsin! GO BUCKY!!!

Marquette was properly seeded. Murray State is a lot better than a 12 seed. Murray State lost 4 games all year. At Auburn, At Alabama, and at Belmont were 3 of them.
They have a top 5 NBA lottery guy playing for them. Morant is legit. In fact, I think I might draft him over anyone but Zion Williamson.
If the Bucks could take him immediately after the tournament and slot him in as their backup PG for the playoffs, they'd immediately be better.

Good post. Happ is a top 5 Badger all time, Iverson has really improved this year, and Thomas has stuck with the program despite seeing limited minutes. We (including me) tend to focus on the things they can't or didn't do instead of the positive.
Having said that, I think the Badgers season likely ends today. You generally know what you are getting with Happ and Iverson almost every game. If 2 of the other 3 main guys (Davison, Trice, or Reuvers) get hot and go off they can beat almost anyone because their defense keeps them in most games. The problem is those 3 lack consistency. Those 3 will be really consistent players as seniors in a couple of years but they had to mature faster than you'd expect because the other guys in what would have been the senior class didn't develop like expected.

Can't be a top 5 if you are taken off the floor when the game is on the line. That said, I think that after 4 yrs the Big 10 coaches and players kinda figured him out. Oregon is not that familiar with him and I think he will have a monster game today.

He's probably the second best post player they've ever had (behind Frank), a top 2-3 rebounder, a top 2-3 interior post defender, the best passing big man they've ever had, and often brings the ball up.
If he had an outside shot, he'd have been in the NBA 3 years ago. That doesn't mean he didn't make major contributions and won't graduate as one of the best Badger players in history.
He's scored in double figures in 113 of his 138 Badger games. He was arguably the best player on 2 Sweet 16 teams (he, Hayes, and Koenig all averaged 14 points a game in Happ's sophomore year and Happ lead the team in assists, steals, blocks, and rebounds). He's played in 6 NCAA tourney games and averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds while shooting 38 for 60 from the floor (63%) and 28 for 44 from the line (63%).

No problem Goldie, yes oregon has played very well winning their last 8 games, but they haven't played anybody, except Washington, and they'll get clipped this afternoon by utah state. Shoot my mama, and 4 or 5 of her sheepshead buddies could go 500 in the pac 12. There is a reason the Badgers are considered a top 15 team, with the third best defense in the country. In other words if we shoot well from the three, I don't give a hoot what oregon does, because it won't matter.
I have UW going to Elite 8... and beating Virginia. That said, no guarantees either team makes it that far the way Virginia is playing.
I really like Tony Bennett too so I am sort of a semi-Virginia fan. Tony was my classmate at UWGB and while I didn't know him well, he was always a good guy whenever I dealt with him.
Let's hope he doesn't make history in the wrong fashion 2 years in a row as head coach.

Like to give a lot of credit to the Oregon defense, but sure appeared to be just poor shooting to me.
The problem with Happ has always been he is an excellent complimentary player. When he is your #1 and no one else can make shot? You loose by a shit ton to Oregon
