Throw to Cobb at the 50 gets them a 1st down

Thanks for that. That clears it up a bit.

So the HM was on 4th down? I didn't realize that.

I would still spike it at :15 and kick a long FG.

The throw to Cook almost guaranteed we would not even get a chance to score and a lot more people would be questioning the clock management.

Positives:

The run defense and the CM3 play.

The D seemed to be more aggressive after they weathered the first storm from the Giants.

The offensive play calling adjustments.  Early on they were going on deep routes all of the field and the Giants had the covered.  (Remember early in the year the Packers had that same problem?) but they adjusted to having some slant plays called and more timing type of things.

I still say having Cook at TE has completely changed this offense and I think even though he didn't dominate yesterday it opened up the offense

What else can you say about #12?

Negatives?

the play call on 4th and inches in your own territory.  I agreed with going for it since momentum was on your side but not the SLOW developing play.

Starting slow to me is playing with fire especially since I still am nervous about this defense.  Next week they have to start quick because that is the best way to take away the run game.

Nope, props all around to AROD, no mention of Wisconsin smells or cheese.  I am old enough to recall the paper mill smell in the Fox and Wisc river valleys.  And if cheese causes anything other than constipation or flatulence I am in trouble.

prosit!

That would have been really off-base. Everyone knows Wisconsin smells like dirty diapers depending on your distance from a paper mill.

Stills of those plays. 59/60 yard FG try in single digits?

I am not saying it is an easy FG. The odds of making are very low. Two passes into the EZ are probably the highest percentage of scoring actually. I was thinking the ball was at the 39 yard line.

But given the situation as depicted in the second still.....0:16 with the clock running......a pass over the middle is the worst possible decision unless the receiver has a clear path to the EZ.

If AR spikes it there and Crosby misses a 59 yarder, we go into half with a 1 point lead. Who is going to complain?

If the clock expires with Cook in the middle of the field, I think MM and AR are facing serious criticism.

Thank you for the pictures.

While I get the criticism would be on McCarthy and Rodgers if Cook catches that and the clock runs out, Rodgers decides where the ball goes. Rodgers needs to be aware of the clock. Rodgers needs to be aware of the receivers position on the field. McCarthy gets to make the stupid face when the play doesn't work.

Looking at it, that was a poor decision by Rodgers.

IF you or anybody gets a chance to look at the Adams TD from behind the QB......check and see if Adams was open right away on his slant route. IIRC he ran a nice slant, was open, then settled down into a small hole in the zone in the EZ.

IMO AR made that a much harder play than necessary. Adams was not even open when AR did throw the ball. Why didn't he throw it right away and take the easy TD?

Thank you.

Can you post a pic of when AR does actually throw the ball on that play. Adams is not open IIRC.

This is another example of something that baffles me. The announcers, fans, SportsCenter, etc.......all go crazy when AR extends a play runs around and throws the ball late for a TD. Why make your OLine block that long when a receiver is open right away? The chance for a holding call that wipes out the play goes way up when he scrambles around unnecessarily.

It's clear that Joe Buck is a Packers fan, if you can't see that then perhaps you should go to an eye doctor.
Here are some more Packers fans:

From the board: well if that little blond haired punk would have caught that ball for the giants
whole game is different.
actually gotta hand it to rodgers
even when his lineman are holding
that is one smooth in the pocket lizard. its not easy to maneuver the way he does, or the league would be full of qb's doing it. Its a helluva gift, he has it, brady has it, big ben pretty good at it.
your qb has to buy those lineman a half second or so if possible by doing that
not many lineman can hold/hold off those freaking beasts coming bull rush on that long.
the freaking qb can make them look awful, average, or even great when they might not be all that.
I thought the giant actually pushed cobb back into the ball?
and when you catch a hail mary at your nut sak!!!!!!!!!!!!!
that is **** hail mary coverage

And this: Just remember had the Jax game been called fair GB misses playoffs.

Jaguars receiver Allen Robinson finished with six catches for 72 yards, but there were nine more passes thrown his way. At least two of those, maybe more, could have been flagged for pass interference.

Fellow receiver Marqise Lee placed the blame.

''I don't know what the refs were looking at,'' Lee said. ''We had some (penalties) we felt should have been called.''

I cannot recall a time I have read more complaints about refs than that thread! I bet if we dug up the 41-donut game Viking fans would say the refs had it in for them.
I did find two nice twists of words on that board: Rodgers' "arm punt," and that Rodgers acts like a "pocket lizard." That's it. Viking fans need help. Seriously.

I read one recap of that play where the writer opined that Adams was essentially never open on that TD. That writer would be wrong.

da-slant-4

This last frame... not sure what Rodgers wasn't seeing? Casillas never really moved.

If you watch the actual video, it wasn't like Rodgers caught them sleeping and passed on the opportunity. That CB was in the process of moving to cover Adams.  He got there quickly.  If there was a window, it was much smaller than the frame makes it seem.  Rodgers probably didn't think it was worth the risk.

Adams was open on the TD strike.  It was a small window, but it was there and the CB was turned around.  There was little risk with the throw.  Either Adams catches it or it falls incomplete.

The 'flip side' to this is wasting at least 2 TOs because of the play coming in late (my assumption) earlier in the half. Obviously, if one or both were available, it would render this point moot.
All's well that ends well, but MM is always responsible for clock management.
