R Rodgers is plenty talented.  At Cal he dropped weight and was a full time WR and averaged 15 YPC.  Yes, he's pretty slow with the ball in his hands but guys like Heath Miller and Jason Witten aren't exactly burners either.  Maybe Rodgers lacks the athleticism of top tier guys but no way is he realizing his athletic talent (no matter how limited it may seem).

To me, Rodgers struggles to catch the ball and turn upfield.  Watch a great WR/TE and you'll see a guy that can catch, turn and run upfield all in one fluid motion.  Rodgers seems to catch, stop, decide where to run but before he can get going, he's tackled.  There is some physical talent required to catch the ball and run but I think it's more that he doesn't know where to go when he catches it.  He doesn't understand where he is on the field or where the defense is soft (which he should know based on film study and the offensive play call).  That hesitation kills his YAC and is why he's at 8 YPC.

I disagree.   On the rare occasion he does get in the open field he looks unatheltic to me.  For example, the TD against the Lions where he awkwardly jumped into a defender at the Goalline.

He has no quickness, no speed, no ability to break tackles and is just meh at blocking.  For his size and frame he should be driving defenders off the point and breaking tackles of DB's.   He does have soft reliable hands though.

Watching him now I agree, that is why I don't get this;  http://www.patriots.com/video/...ard-rodgers-te-calif   he looked so much more athletic in college

The following is a summary defensive coordinator Dom Capers' Monday evening press conference:

Considering some of the comments in the Should they have went for 2 thread and the OT history statistics, McCarthy may be taking a long look at whether to bring Dom back. Last year Slocum was dumped after the ST debacle, but the D was a problem then too.

I thought that was smart too.. If only Neal had sacked Palmer on first down I like our odds on forcing a punt...

And winning

To me, defense is more about when you give up points. In the last three playoff losses, the D gave up 23, 22 and 20 points in regulation. That's OK, but in each one go those games, the D folded like a cheap suit at the end.

Capers D had people in the right place on the Hail Larry.  At least 5-7 players failed to execute and 1 blew the coverage.  Seems more like a position coach failure than a DC failure, if not the players'.

Can't polish a turd.

Guy had Jordan Cameron and Gary Barnidge to work with. Good luck with the guys we have.

A healthy Jordy & maybe K. Backman can make a jump. Dick Rod is a great guy. He's just slow & unathletic.

I'm sure glad he caught that hail mary vs. Detroit though.

I would guess a good number.  Good CBs are hard to find and there seems to have been a lot of them drafted in recent memory.  But this is a deceiving stat.  Does anybody think Rollins was playing better than Randall this year?

How many rookie CBs played 200+ snaps?

Randall, Rollins, Peters, Byron Jones, Kevin Johnson, Jalen Collins, Eric Rowe, Ronald Darby, Craig Mager, Josh Shaw.....

Barnidge was a 5th rounder who was an NFL unknown for 5 years. Cameron was a 4th rounder. I know both guys have good speed, but it's not like either was a no doubter.

FWIW

Yes, the thing it does not account for is how many times they were targeted. How many times they were targeted is largely dictated by who they are covering. Randall often was covering opponents #1 when Shields was out.

Wilde with homer, he talked to some sources in 1265 and has word on Rodgers injury and nugget about coaching changes.

Thanks for posting that. Something most of us figured but now we have 100% confirmation.

Fontenot was hired based on the impression he made on MM while MM was the OC in New Orleans. MM said the guy had the teams respect. AR said Fontenot was "head coach" material last year.

Fontenot was a center when he played. He was assistant OL coach from 2006-2011.

I hope MM didn't just fire a potentially solid OL coach because he couldn't coach up TEs and he felt he was covered with Campen.

#‎Packers‬ head coach Mike McCarthy says not only will he remain the play caller in 2016, he will be even more involved in running the offense, going back to his role in 2006 (8-8), and 2007 (13-3) when he first arrived in Green Bay. That means McCarthy has gone from building a staff, to delegating the play calling to his assistants and the quarterback, allowing him to be the game manager, and after a 6 & 0 start in 2015, he's back to square one. McCarthy would also not commit to returning next year to host the weekly statewide head coach's TV show, a tradition dating back to Lombardi. Interesting. - MIKE CLEMENS

If the above is true, my concern is MM going to go from a HC who was too hands off on offense in 2015 to being too hands ON in 2016 and micro managing the offense and perhaps handcuffing AR's ability to check out of plays. I also wonder if all this control he wants is him feeling some heat about how far this team goes next season.

This team has been bounced from the playoffs in some bizarre ass ways under MM. He may be feeling the clock is ticking louder than ever before.

I think you guys are reading too much into it. If you think MM is going to handcuff AR12, who MM stated is "The king of extending plays." you're even crazier than I thought you were.

We just need to get Jordy back, have Eddie apply himself more in 2016 & all 5 OL back & we will be AOK. Right back in the discussion of winning it all again

Uh oh...sounds a little like a desperate dick-tater grabbing power when things start spinning out of control.

Generally speaking, this is a bad sign for the inner health of any organization. The irony is that it is a personal self indictment of Mike's own ability to develop and "manage" others.

I will be very interested to hear Aaron's comments and tone on this.

in 2007 McCarthy got Favre to put in late nights watching film and preparing for games like he hadn't in years - Favre said as much.

Well, the other side of that coin is...and then Bert said Eff it.

I see it more as MM seeing a problem and wanting to address it. I believe he said the same thing about getting more involved with special teams and the defense after last season. For sure special teams was much improved. For the most part the D seemed to play better as well.  Not world beater better but better .... I think.

The bottom line is the buck stops with MM. If it means stepping on a few toes and/or ruffling a few feathers then so be it.  Getting more involved in an area/areas where a team is struggling is what a good  head coach should do if you ask me.
