Lucky to get a conditional sixth-round pick for him. Not a good return on the investment.
Yet another 2nd round flop. Hopefully Jackson and Jenkins break the streak that's been going since Rollins in 15.
I get that he wants a better shot at earning PT, but he's getting poor advice from his agent. I don't see the Packers caving to the demands as all he will net is a 6th or 7th. It's better to have the shitty insurance policy on the sidelines. All he has done is decrease his value once he hits FA.
Man, was hoping they could make use of him as a hybrid chase LB or rover type.
Gotta be frustrating to see the safety position absolutely suck and not be able to get on the field, then watch as the Pack adds Savage and Amos in the offseason.
If they can't get something decent for him, make him report to camp.
I concur. No trade.

Daunte Culpepper looked impressive too.
Sorry, but Daunte is so much better than Rodgers. When Rodgers can do that arm roll, we'll talk.

Hope the Packers enjoy the Cherry Coke he brings in trade.

Why? No other donkeys in GB? Just cut him. He'll never amount to anything.
The best hope for Jones is that another player (perhaps an UDFA) simply beats him out of a back up/ST's role and he's cut. He has next to no trade value.
A very poor TT pick and a kid who couldn't grasp the defensive playbook either. Looked lost way too often for such a high round pick.
For anyone bitching about all the moves including spending big bucks in FA that Gutenheimer has had to make, this is why.
A lot of "clean up on aisle 6" he's had to do. And unfortunately, he's not done yet.
What about aisles 1 thru 5?
Jones is a tweener that didn't fit either safety or a rover-type player. Too slow and more prone to gambling than reading plays at safety; too light and too slow to play the rover, as well as being hurt by his propensity to guess where the ball was going rather than being able to read the play. And sometimes if he guessed correctly, he just didn't make the play.
if he was an all-pro or sniffed of one, i get it, but the dude has not done much. get yer big boy pants on and compete.

He's actually really quick...except in the mind.
Dallas needs a safety worse this year than the Packers did last year. Send him to Dallas for a draft choice from 2022. Jerry may think that is a great deal.
Everything about Josh Jones thus far says he loves being a football player without loving playing football. Itβs Datone Jones 2.0.
The fact that the coaching staff felt Kentrell Brice was a better option tells you all you need to know.

goombye.... Man, 2017 was a baaaad draft. Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are the only two players to really contribute. If King can stay healthy, that would be cool. Josh Jones had given us nothing. If Gutes can get anything for him I'd be shocked.
Good God, I'm still pissed we didn't take TJ Watt....
Not sure if they don't think he can play LB effectively or he just didn't want to? Pettine's defense is heavily reliant on Safeties and ILBs playing smart, savvy football...I think that's where Jones seems to struggle. He's aggressive and instinctive, but he's too often either out of position or guessing poorly. I wasn't going to be surprised if he was a training camp casualty anyway, probably a candidate to get shipped somewhere for a conditional late to mid round pick.
LaFleur asked again about Josh Jones: βIβm just going to focus on the guys that are here. ... I know Brian Gutekunst has a good handle on that situation.β #Packers

I like the attitude of LaFleur there. Agree on the need for smart players within Pettine's system. Football smart. Seems Josh Jones was floundering, consistently.

He's also actually not light either for any kind of S role and one of the reasons he was being used as a nickel/LB. He was a 4.4, 37.5" 6'-2 210# prospect that liked to gamble and be aggressive but hasn't translated to the nfl yet..
Darnell Savage Jr. was the only rookie who worked among the starters consistently during today's OTA practice. It was Savage and Adrian Amos at safety, "He's a smart guy," coach Matt LaFleur said of the 21st overall pick. "We're really excited about him. Again, it's still early, but he showed some good stuff in the rookie minicamp. We'll take it day by day and see where it ends up."
Reminded of the famous story of Jim Ringo and Lombardi trading him to Philly. Not sure why, because Josh Jones has never really done anything.... If Gutey can work a trade, it should be fun to see how it plays out.

So the Packers got only one good player in this draft.
We don't need him, but we do need to act in the team's best interests.

Smart is the key word here .....a word never to be used in the same sentence as Jones

Hard to call Josh Jones a bad pick. He hits every measurable you want in a hybrid DB. He says everything you want to hear from an early pick. Checks a lot of boxes.
Just not sure he actually wants to play football. Theirin lies the rub.
I could never get past the fact that in his last year at NC State, opposing ACC coaches completely left Jones off the all-ACC team .... he did not even get an "honorable mention". They chose 11 safeties ahead of him. No one watches more film in preparation for an opponent than coaches do ...... what did TT see in Jones that the coaches who played vs. him did not?
It looks like Spriggs is on the "Eddie Lacy" diet!!
Too much red beans, and fried white rice.
Might be better looking like an actual slob.
Enough with Josh Jones. Kevin King practicing. Thatβs the pick that really matters.
Jones got $1.2m signing bonus, is he ready to return half of it?
Definitely a disappointment, he looked totally lost on the field.
I would let him sit at home and cut him the day of final cuts.

He WAS told to gain weight. The worry about him for the last couple of years was that he was too light to play. Bak picked up quite the belly (beer diet?) and was better able to handle bull rushers after his rookie season just fine. For Spriggs, I think that perhaps his movement skills when he was drafted was helped by his lighter weight. Just adding belly fat alone is not enough. I also read that he has been working in the weight room as well. To me, body weight alone was not the problem. It was more like his strength and reaction time. But maybe if he ends up playing guard itβs not as big of a deal. But even there he struggled. I think that Spriggs problem was more in his head than What the scale reads. In this picture they are side by side. Bak has a gut too yet looks like he carries it better. But it could also be just a camera angle thing.
