Boykin reminds me of Jennings--very reliable, able to get separation...
Boykins is no where near as fast as Jennings.
Yeah I don't see the comparisons. I guess they're comparable in that they both have reliable hands, but Boykin is more of a possession receiver in the mold of James Jones. Actually to me he sounds like a shorter Ruvell Martin. A guy who will always do enough to remain as your 5th receiver or will always show enough to stay on your PS, but really isn't talented enough to be a starter or fight for more than minimal playing time. I'm not trying to dog the guy or be negative about him, I'd rather have the reliable receiver who isn't a burner as my #5 than a guy who will fumble or won't play up to his ability, but I would be seriously surprised if he was kept as the #6 and even more surprised if he unseated Driver.
I still don't understand the negativity about Driver. Fan favorite aside, if you have the opportunity to have a cagey vet like Driver, who still has speed, matched up against another teams Dime back, that should be a no brainer! He's going to win that battle 10 times out of 10. Can't say that about Gurley, Borel or Boykin.

I haven't seen much of Boykin except on the coaches tape of the Browns game. I like him, and he showed he can catch. I am not sure he can get open against better competition. Didn't know about his shuttle or 3 cone comparison so maybe he has a chance to improve route running. From what little I have seen, I think right now he is an acceptable #5 receiver. I look forward to the next two weeks to see how he progresses (if he doesn't he is toast).
saw this at packerupdate:
quote:"Jarrett Boykin, who's having a good camp, was released by the WR-starved Jaguars in May. Hard to believe."
considering Jacksonville's ineptitude at recognizing NFL talent, not THAT surprising.
but i have been reading some great things about Boykin in training camp.

quote:Stout against the run, energetic in every drill and with some surprising pass rush ability, Muir has played his way into strong consideration for some playing time at one of the deepest positions on the team.
“He’s a big, powerful guy,” defensive coordinator Dom Capers said Tuesday. “But some of those guys you see, they can’t rush. I don’t think that’s the case with Daniel. He does give you some rush, brings some tempo and intensity to the group.”
---------
Trgovac said if the coaches need an extra defensive lineman to jump in during a drill, Muir is the first one to do so, which explains why he has the highest rep count among all defensive players in the one-on-one drill.
---------
“I’ve been really impressed with him,” Raji said. “I didn’t know much about him until he got here, but I’ve really been impressed with how he’s been able to rush the passer. In a lot of the drills that we’ve been doing to showcase your pass-rushing ability, I think he’s really stood out. He’s really made a mark for himself, and I feel like he could help us.”

Sure as heck hope so! UT is going through a transition to a Saban-style 3-4 defense so it will be very interesting to see how that plays out. Don't know much about NCST's offense, but I fully expect David Amerson to have a big day against our beer bottle throwin, car bustin, jet ski maniac, gunslinger QB Tyler Bray. It will be an interesting game most definitely!
yeah cant wait. Our secondary lead by Amerson should be sick. He'll by a high choice in April. Our front 7 scares me. WEve lost LBs Irving, Manning and Cole in recent years and all are on NFL rosters (for now) so theres alot of untested youth.
Our offense should be solid. We lost our whole WR group but return one of the top passers in the ACC in GLennon( (31-12 TD/INT ratio - should get drafted with another solid season)
WEve got skill players but our lines are weak and could get dominated by SEC linemen... I expect a high scoring affair though.
Ill take further discussion over to the NCAA board...
....but "NCST"?..

Coach, nice job. I agree on all counts. Minor points: (1) Since Zombo eligible for PUP, would expect Packers would use that rather than put him on IR and shut him down for the year. (2) Walden suspended first game, so they'll keep someone else for just the first week -- maybe So'oto? (3) In addition to Coleman on the Practice Squad, my other guesses would be WR Boykin, WR Moss, G Van Roten, C Draheim, DE Guy, CB Merrill, CB Ross. (4) I'd still prefer someone like Colt McCoy or Tavaris Jackson over Harrell.
Like Hungry5 said, any final 53 prediction that doesn't have Crabtree is asinine
Thats probably your first game roster right there. The roster will continue to evolve throughout the year. I wouldn't be surprised to see Hargrove back in November.

I like it coach.. Only change I would make is drop Jones and keep Gurley.

If he's not on a roster, does that count towards his eight-game suspension?

Gurley has shown nothing to justify a roster spot, especially over Jones.
@AlbertBreer
NFL says Anthony Hargrove's suspension will start Week 1, whether he's employed by a team or not.

Disagree, he has shown more on special teams. If Jones makes the team, the only way he will ever suit up is if there is a injury to one of the other 4 OLB's. Gurley has the potential to be a special teams ace.
Another genius (notice it's spelled correctly) move by TT. Although I'm fairly certain we receive roster exemptions for suspended players. They must feel he didn't do enough.
I thought you were talking about James Jones... Still don't see Gurley making the team.
Gurley may make the team as a special team player. And /or because the packers like his is size/speed ratio or simple because of injuries.
If you belive the current Packer depth chart
http://www.packers.com/team/depth-chart.html
Cobb is behind both Gurley and Borel. And the Packers would nvere lie about something like that on thier own web page.

I don't know what all the buzz has been about Borel as I haven't seen anything to make me think he's legit. maybe another year on the practice squad but I ain't seeing it. yeah, if Gurley had blocked that one punt that he came close to he coulda maybe sealed his spot.
Borel reminds a lot of people of Greg Jennings.
That at least would explain why Borel is on the bubble.
Borel missed two balls right in his hands Thursday. Jennings Lite maybe.
Also, not sure the O-Line is close to settled. Datko not likely to make final 53. Draham is in the picture with one game to go plus a trade/waiver player not out of the question. Is Clifton still with someone?
Clifton talked to NE sometime in the past, nothing came of it. Clifton is done and he needs to be done his knees are that bad.
As for getting players after cuts it will be hard for the packers to get anyone they need. Other teams are looking for Wide Receivers and O-line men. What little o-line talant that will be cut will be grab before the packers get a shot at them. Datko may make the team simply becouse the packers will not be able to stash him on the pratice squad.

Granted we don't see these guys at practice everyday, but in the three games so far, Boykin looks better than Borel or Gurley. Pretty disappointed in those two for all the hype we were fed.
Sure hope Harrell isn't the back-up(probably will be) as he inspires zero confidence. Weak arm, plays scared, bouts of inaccuracy, etc....gotta be someone better.

You should be more disappointed that you bought into the hype. Folks were ready to send off a legit playmaker like James Jones for these guys.

I would still be willing to cut Driver to keep Gurley. It wouldn't be popular, but I think DD is done and shouldn't be taking up a game day spot. Suit up 5 WR's with the offensive snaps going to Jennings, Jones, Jordy & Cobb. Gurley is there in case of injury and being a huge contributor to teams..
Donald just eats up a spot because he is the 5th best option and does not play teams. Love the guy, but I don't want to lose a player who can contribute for the next couple seasons for a feel good story.
I'm not saying this will happen, but I would prefer it.

And do you believe the fine folks at 1265 Lombardi Ave are making personnel decisions based on feel good stories ? Their track record with Grant, Clifton, TOG and Tauscher suggests otherwise
Grant is not even in the same ballpark in terms of Packer lore. Won't even sniff the Packer HOF
Tauscher never showed any interest to keep playing as far as I know. Could be wrong,
Clifton has a price tag problem as well as injury concerns.
TOG made his own bed, not even close to the same story.
But yeah, I agree with the point of your statement. Problem is DD is a lot more capable and loved then 3 of 4 of those players named. In the end, I trust TT to make the right call.. I'm just saying what I would do.

Isn't Driver on the hands team?
Yes he is.

Really? I thought it was because the NFL was discrimating against me for being a German American. Ok... So all you want to talk about during the preseason is ????
Sorry, Ammo, I'm not up for a circle jerk. If you don't want to read other peoples opinions you should avoid fan message boards.

You said "rong." Debate is over even though you supplied no supporting evidence to back up your position..
Well done.
