The number game in Green Bay is against Newhouse. Even without EDS they will be bringing back 7 drafted o-linemen.  I would think in this draft that Ted will take at least one offensive  linemen, high value guy a little latter in the draft. They will need the slot for a least one rookie.

Please remember that Newhouse is a great left tackle and there should be bidding war for his services, a team would be luckey to get him for a 4 year 32 million contract. And the Packers will have to sadly accept a 3rd comp pick for losing him. That my story and I am sticking too it.

I think Kuhn is a "luxury" the Packers can't afford.  If he comes back, IMO, it is only because of AR and because he agrees to the Vet minimum salary.  Someone else can be taught to do everything Kuhn does IMO.  I think it's time to let Kuhn ride into the sunset on the glory of his play during the last drive, and last play, vs the Bears.

Huh?

Really?

According to this:

http://www.footballperspective...team-age/#more-17621

Packers are the 7th youngest team in the league, adjusted for player value (starters and good players count for more).  They were ranked 5th youngest on offense but only 19th on defense.  It seems to me that they coud benefit by being younger on D.

If we can get the following back on minimum or near-minimum contracts, I'd bring them back:

Pickett

CJ Wilson

Kuhn

Lattimore

Flynn

These guys may negotiate team-friendly contracts for more than vet minimum:

Quarless

James Jones

These will be more market-type contracts:

Shields

EDS

Banjo is back as an ERFA.

I think you have to let everyone else walk.

Lot of people saying francios is gone.  I don't know his injury status, but he's one i'd think they'd like to bring back.  Good for special teams, has time/experience in the system, and was the top backup when Jones initially got injured (Jones injured, what a surprise), and would be a relatively cap friendly deal .

If the LB from last year (already forgot his name) got a huge deal from Indianapolis then someone gives as much or more to Mike Neal.  He looked better as a LB than he did as a DE but he really did not display the awareness that a LB usually does. Neal probably gets 15 million from some team on a three year deal which means Ted says good bye.

Francois and his agent approached the Packers last year and said if all you want us for is to play ST's, then let us know and we'll seek options elsewhere.

Apparently the Packers said- we'll give him a fair shot on to play defense too

That was enough for him to come back; but now he's a marginal player returning from an ACL injury. Tough spot for both sides

I'd love to see Jones, Kuhn and Starks back, but I think it would probably make more sense to pump every dime into the defense. Rodgers and the remaining core should be able to perform at a high level even with secondary contributors replaced in house.

It will be quite a balancing act for GB this March

For teams with SB aspirations, a couple a vets can be a key component of success

James Jones' role is to be the 3rd/4th WR and so long as he can still be better than the opponents 3rd /4th CB- he's a valuable vet to have at a commensurate contract

Kuhn too, and his pay drops from $2.5M to 950K so that's probably doable

Starks would be great to have too, but he's probably hoping for mo' money and mo' playing time than GB would allot to him.

The good news on the Starks side is that RBs are currently de-valued AND easily replaced, so maybe GB finds a way to bring him back. Given his injury history and upright running style, he's fine for a change-up, but he isn't a candidate to be a bell cow in GB or elsewhere.

Sorry, MC.  I don't think Pickett is going to get much more than the vet minimum in the open market.  The contracts that vets have been signing since the new CBA have been downright bargains (1 year deals, low $$).  The market has been set the past 2 years for vets in their mid-30s, if there is much of one.  Pickett is on the decline, and has been increasingly dinged up.  I don't see how he can command major dollars.  He still has significant value to the Pack though.  I'd like to see him back, and I don't think it will be at a bad price.

If the Rapoport report is correct and GB will be active in FA and wants to get more athletic on the DL, does it change which of their own FAs they keep?

I'm staying with my original guess.

Yeah, FT.  Many of the shiny new FA people area all gaga over for 1265 to look at will really just be red herrings by the time the real FA signing period rolls around.  TT is just sitting back with his tassled loafers up on the desk until that happens, when he really knows what he has to work with.

Just my unbiased opinion. I think Ted was hoping his picks could catch lighting and win another Lombardi 2011-2013. He might go FA 2014-2015 if it makes sense. He wants 2 pelts on his mantle in the worst possible way but I think the guy wrestles with his legacy and leaving one.

His 2011-2012 drafts have been casting long shadows and I think the success of this team may hinge on whether that crop finally produces in 2014 or not.  It's hard to overcome 2 mediocre drafts, especially for a D&D team.

My "unbiased opinion" is that something just aint right with this team and I don't see them claiming the top of the hill unless there is a significant shift in identity.  The O has the makings for such a shift but I have my doubts about the D ever getting there under the current rayjeem.
