how does MM's play calling on third down still surprise people?  He's been doing it since he came into town.

I understand complaining about third down shotguns when running the ball has been working.  Seems like a worthwhile discussion.

It's calling the architect of one of the most consistent, dominant offenses in the NFL to stop being the playcaller which just falls into "stupid"

Yeah Brak, why would ANYONE question why we have such a hard time on 3rd and short and 1st and goal from the 5 (two games in a row). I know, it's against "the rules". TimesFour, not for pussies unless you're such a pussy that you can't handle a little criticism of the team you're a fan of. Gotta run. I'm going to enjoy this win Here's an idea for you and Blair Kiel for your next vacation together...

Ciao.

I agree. I never would nor ever did do that.

That's what I thought. Seems that some people are so sensitive that you can't have that discussion. It's taken personal for some reason. Oh well, I'm out.

True,  it's not for pussies but do we need so many pricks in here?

Why is it that Pro Bowler Big Ern isn't getting the call to push the pile, which is what a Center is supposed to do, when you have short yardage situations?  Is it because they can't disguise it or maybe it could be something else.  Whatever could it be?

Now that's a good post Dude!   Totally agree with yah!

Maybe that theory has weight...maybe it doesn't.  Only MM knows for sure as the play caller.  Regardless, I have a hard time believing the sole reason for not running on 3rd and short is one player, especially when you consider MM has a clear history of throwing the ball in those situations that dates back well before EDS began starting.

3rd and 1 doesn't have to be a dive behind the center. Run off the right side behind Lang and Barclay, those guys have been mauling people this year. If MM doesn't want the run the ball on 3rd and 1 his lack of confidence in EDS can only be a part of the issue, not the entirety of it.

That play vs. Cincy was brutal. And I think he can't get it out of his head.

On continuing to throw on third and short:  while our run game is showing some very encouraging success vs. 6 or 7 in the box, when it comes to 3rd and short, D's are no doubt hedging their bets more toward the run, possibly shading the 8th man up but not committing enough to get him burnt in the event of a pass play.  When our OL can start having success vs. 8, we will see more runs on third and short.  Or when MM comes up with better short yardage runs.  50/50.

And Hawk?

-2.6 , the worst of any player, offense or defense.

Overall the defense graded out negatively, which is strange, considering they allowed 9 points. Not too happy with PFF so far this year. I've seen some very questionable grades.

Some examples, Franklin runs the ball 3 times and gets a -2.2 grade. I know he fumbled but jesus, did he REALLY have that negative of an impact on the offense while playing three snaps?

Francois played 13 snaps and graded out -2.6. Again, how in the hell could he have had THAT negative of an impact on the defense in 13 measly snaps?

Hawk had 7 tackles and 2 stops, and played very well according to his head coach, yet gets the worst grade of anyone of the team.
