Minus safety Nick Collins, who is lost for the year due to the neck injury he sustained last week at Carolina, the Green Bay Packers’ defense should be at full strength for Sunday’s game at Chicago.

That’s because both linebacker Clay Matthews (quad) and cornerback Charles Woodson (foot) practiced today for the first time all week.

Also, cornerback Tramon Williams, who missed the Carolina game because of a bruised shoulder, was back at practice again today after going through the full-pads workout yesterday. Williams was a little late getting on the field but came out of the Hutson Center, where he could have been finishing rehab work, and jumped into practice after it had started.

Linebacker Vic So’oto, who has been inactive the first two weeks because of a back injury, also practiced and should be available on Sunday if needed.

We’ll have the full injury report and comments from coach Mike McCarthy following practice at about 12:30 p.m.

UPDATE (12:xx p.m.): Here’s the full injury report, followed by comments from McCarthy:

Chad Clifton, T, Knee, Did Not Participate, Probable

Nick Collins, S, Neck, Out

Jermichael Finley, TE, Ankle, Full Participation, Probable

Alex Green, RB, Achilles, Full Participation, Probable

Davon House, CB, Ankle, Full Participation, Probable

Clay Matthews, LB, Quadricep, Limited Participation, Probable

Mike Neal, DE, Knee, Out

Ryan Pickett, DE, Foot, Limited Participation, Probable

Vic So’oto, LB, Back, Full Participation, Probable

Tramon Williams, CB, Shoulder, Limited Participation Probable

Charles Woodson, CB, Foot, Limited Participation, Probable

Frank Zombo, LB, Shoulder, Out
I may be naive, but I'm holding out hope that they don't IR Collins once he gets a second opinion that would allow him to play again in the second half of the season. Of course I don't want him to aggravate this injury, but the comments from his agent have been more encouraging than anything else, that he doesn't have stenois, it isn't career-ending, etc. Could be just a guy trying to keep a client on the payroll, but I can hope.
I'm not criticizing Thompson at all, I just think it's odd that McCarthy stated he's done for the season, but they haven't put him on IR yet. If it was speculation from the news outlets that he was done for the season then I would think they were hoping he would be back, but McCarthy announcing he's done and then him not going on IR seems weird. Maybe McCarthy jumped the gun saying he would be out for the season? Maybe they're waiting for further testing to get an exact idea of how long his recovery will take, holding out hope he could be back for the playoffs? Maybe they're gun shy about putting guys on IR after what happened with Grant last year...they put him on IR and he was supposedly 100% by December.
