What more do you want? They explained it themselves. They want versatile players, and he’s injured.

"There's a few factors, involved in that," Gutekunst said. "Mike was rehabbing from a foot injury suffered during the season. There were some trade conversations going on and it came apart the last couple of weeks. That was part of it."

Earlier this year Gutekunst talked about the Packers needing to get bigger on the defensive front seven. At 6'0'', Daniels was the shortest defensive lineman on the roster.

"Not a coincidence, there's no doubt," Gutekunst said, per Packers News' Tom Silverstein. "These are big men with length and power and speed. I felt we needed to get bigger in the front, and we have. Those are the body types we're looking for."

So Kenny Clark is a versatile player?  What about Fadol Brown and Lancaster?  Lowry is a DE only.

I'm not that broken up about Daniels.  I could see it being more of a personality clash combined with declining returns but Daniels still had plenty to offer this defense.  Coming out of the shadows of McVince and The Wizard dumb****ery I'd rather be safe than sorry.  I can see it both ways.  Either way I'm not going to proclaim Daniels release a death knell or a genius move.  It is what it is.

NFL teams can’t admit they break contracts because they simply don’t want to pay amounts they already agreed to. The reason always has to be something like character or scheme fit or something that makes the player seem like there was no other option but to release...and it’s the players fault. Gute SEEMS more honest because he’s actually giving you a reason compared to TT who would just shrug his shoulders and move on, but he’s really saying about as much truth as TT. I’m sure one of Murphy’s directives to Gute was to be less like TT with the press, but there’s no honesty going on.

I’ll never forget the day I received the call, the excitement of my first training camp, my first NFL game, tackle, sack, and even my Lambeau Leap. Green Bay will always hold a special place in my heart...from football, to the numerous community interactions.
I want to thank the Green Bay Packers organization for giving me the opportunity to play football at the highest level. I’ve dreamed of playing in the NFL since I was a young kid in New Jersey. YOU ALL have made that dream come true.

To all of my coaches, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning staff, equipment staff, front office, and everyone in the Packers Family, I am forever thankful for my time here. Thank you for your time, energy, and support during my 7 years in Green Bay. Without doubt, I’ve become a better player and a better man because of it.
To my teammates, or should I say MY BROTHERS IN ARMS, it has been an honor to line up and play alongside you all. We’ve accomplished a lot, had each other’s backs, had a lot of fun and created memories that will last a lifetime. Thank you for believing in me and pushing me to become the best version of myself.

Packers fans, win or lose, you all filled Lambeau with the most amazing energy! To everyone who showed up to games wearing a 76 jersey, that means more than you’ll ever know! Thank all of you for your continued support. The outpour of love you all have shown these past few days has not gone unnoticed. I am truly grateful. I couldn’t have asked for a better fan base. #GoPackGo

As I close this chapter and begin the next, I do so with great appreciation and humility as this opportunity would not be possible without GOD. To my wife Heaven, thank you for being my rock, my cheerleader and taking care of our 4 kids and I through it all. To my parents, my older sisters and my brother, you all have been holding me down for as long as I can remember. Thank you for your sacrifices, constant encouragement and being my biggest fans at every level. No matter where I go, I pray I continue to make all of you proud.
I am excited and look forward to what lies ahead.
Thank You,

Mike Daniels #76

Until he proves otherwise Adams is a slug.  Can't wait to watch the rest of the Dline move towards the QB as he's getting backpeddled by a TE.

Yep. I certainly wouldn't be counting on him this season.

β€œIf I had to vote somebody for most improved from a year ago, it’d be Montravius. It’s been pretty obvious with him,” Pettine said Monday.

The Packers defensive coordinator was honest about his first impression of Adams and how far he’s come since then.

β€œWhen I first got here (last year), my opinion wasn’t real high. And he knows that,” Pettine said. β€œWe challenged him, and (defensive line coach) Jerry Montgomery has done an outstanding job with Mon. And Mon has taken the challenge. He came back from the offseason, he lost a bunch of weight. By the end of last year, he was playing some quality minutes for us and made some plays. I wouldn’t have predicted that. He’s a guy we’re going to depend on.”

Pettine said Adams used flashes of playmaking ability late in the 2018 season to fuel his confidence and create the groundwork for a productive offseason. Adams played 10 or more defensive snaps in nine straight games to end last season and was on the field for 76 snaps over the final two games.

Those snaps helped convince Adams he could play at a high level in the NFL.

β€œHe’s already shown flashes of (starting ability),” Pettine said. β€œWith his weight down, he just made a play in practice where he penetrated, put his foot in the ground and went and chased the ball carrier down. You wouldn’t have seen that a year ago. I think the confidence at the end of last season that he got from going out there and playing, I think that really propelled him into the offseason to show up in April and be ready to go. He’s been impressive since the day he came back.”

Adams, a third-round pick of the Packers in 2017, is now comfortable in Pettine’s system, improved from a technical standpoint and in the best shape of his professional career.

β€œAll of it. He’s much more comfortable in the system, he knows it now,” Pettine said. β€œThe technique part, I think Jerry is one of the best technique teachers in the league, that I’ve been around. Just a tribute to him, when he hasn’t been here in the offseason, sometimes you worry about that with the big guys, but he came back in shape. It’s a tribute to him, how he’s changed his body.”

Fluff.  I would hope to hell he contributes but what he showed at times wasn't just subpar it was flat out bad.  He needs to prove it.
