I watched some show on ESPN at lunch today and they were talking about if the B1G champion should be left out, and all they talked about was that Penn State should have a chance but they won't.  Never even MENTIONED the Badgers.  That show has apparently already given the B1G title to PSU.

I noticed the same thing the other night and on ESPN radio the last day or so.  PSU is talked about (they should be they deserve it) but not much about UW usually and if they do they mention their losses or they are boring etc.

right on queue they were talking about how the committee may want to have the best matchups in the playoffs and who do they show?  yep UW.

1. I don't think beating PS is going to be easy, not at all. But if WI loses then none of this talk matters, so I think we are just assuming a WI win for the sake of this discussion.

2. I think the media talks about PS winning so much because they beat OSU and would have a better argument for being in the playoff. They won the division that both OSU and MI are in, they won the conference and they beat OSU head to head. It is just a more interesting scenario for the committee if PS wins the Big 10 so it draws more conversation than a WI win.

If WIS wins by double digits, they'll be tough to argue against.

ALA and OSU are in. CLEM and WASH are in with W's. If either loses that opens it for MICH, WIS, PennSt.

I think, if WAS loses the WIS/PennSt winners jumps MICH into the 4th spot. I don't see MICH moving up without playing, unless CLEM and WAS both lose.

I find that impossible to believe. In all the SOS stuff that I looked at and posted earlier in this thread shows WASH miles behind everybody else in SOS.

Looking at an average,  MI's SOS was around 28th in the country and WASH's SOS was around 58th. That is out of 128 teams. WASH is bearly in the top half of the country in terms of SOS.

And MI already pounded Colorado earlier this year. No way WASH SOS improves 30 spots on one game.

MI already has 3 top 10 wins against WI, PS and Colorado.

WASH's best win is against #18 Stanford. Colorado would be their 1st top 10 win.

It'd be a really bad precedent to put OSU and Michigan in and leave out the real Big 10 champ.  For that reason, I think Michigan is done.  And I actually don't like OSU being in - if you can't win your own conference, you don't deserve a chance to play for the national title.

Not that anyone cares, but they should get rid of the Big 12, sending Texas and TCU to the Pac 12, West Virginia and Kansas to the ACC, Oklahoma and Oklahoma St to the SEC.  Iowa St, Kansas St, Texas Tech, and Baylor would get screwed in my scenario (probably works better for the first three schools and frankly, screw Baylor).  The Power 4 conference champs then play for the national title.  No more stupid committee, strength of schedule, etc. and teams would be free to schedule a hard non-conference schedule without getting penalized.  Non-conference games would be better, conference play would be more intense, and the conference championships would in effect be round 1 of the playoffs (ie: 8 teams).  Oh, and the best part: Notre Dame gets screwed!

Good luck to Wisconsin this weekend.  Even if they win and don't get in to the playoff, the Rose Bowl is a nice consolation.  Hopefully my Buffs will see you there.

8 team playoff.

5 Power 5 conference champs plus 3 at large teams.

That way winning your conference means something and WIS/PS, OSU and MI all get in. Oklahoma gets in.

A 12 team tournament would be the way to go to make the conference championships mean something, but the problem is there are 5 Power conferences instead of 4. You could award the top 4 rated POwer Conference champions an automatic bye, and then have the 5th go into an 8 team First Round playoff to see which four teams play the conference champs.

I agree that this year will expose the fact that the conference championship is not that important. It's very likely that Penn State/Bucky winner won't get in. If Florida would upset Alabama, it's almost certain that Alabama would still get into the playoff. If Washington or Clemson loses (which is more likely than Alabama), then Michigan likely gets in. Thus, you could imagine a scenario where 2 or 3 of the 4 playoff teams didn't win their conference.

I've been reading some things the last couple days that say Michigan will likely be the odd man out. The winner of Wisconsin/Penn St. will likely get the 4th playoff spot if either Clemson or Washington lose, sending UMich to the Rose Bowl to face the Pac12 championship loser. There was also talk that if Clemson or Washington struggle with their championship opponent and Wisconsin or Penn St. win convincingly, that the top 10 could reshuffle with the B1G winner leapfrogging a couple teams. Clemson is the likeliest team to lose or not win convincingly as they have not won many games convincingly this year, but Bucky needs to have the game of their lives.

I agree with you about the conference consolidation, but I think they need to adopt the NFL playoff system and go to a 6 team playoff. 4 conference winners, 2 wildcard teams. 1 and 2 get a BYE, 3 plays 6, 4 plays 5. That way you're not penalizing teams for getting bumped out of a major conference, and good teams who lose competitive divisions still have a shot.

Its going to be deflating watching Bama take the Huskies to the woodshed. Wisconsin has the defense to at least be competitive with Bama. Bucky isn't beating Bama. No one is. But Washington is going to get curb stomped.

Good point Chili. Bucky probably gets beat by something like 31-6. If they want to, Bama could beat the Huskies or Clemson by 50.

Chris Peterson,  James Franklin and Paul Chryst are pleading with the committee to rank them no higher than fifth.  Relax, I know they aren't.

Wisc/Penn State Vs Wash in the Rose Bowl would be a good game. Badgers would of course be my preference.

I hope Clemson has a rough time tonite, dropping them to 4.  Put Mich at 3 vs 2 OSU.

Bama, OSU, Mich and Clemson are IMO the best 4 teams.

Announcers mentioned Alabama has 6 first round draft picks playing that will be in the NFL next year. I think the way to beat them is the same way you beat Bucky (although much tougher obviously). Don't give up defensive or special teams touchdowns and make the QB beat you passing from the pocket.

The RBs don't get hit on about half the carries until 5-10 yards downfield.

That's about it isn't it?  Things take care of themselves.

Wisconsin has had an incredible season but they were not one of the 4 best teams.   No signature wins and that matters at this point.

Losing close games is still losing close games.

They will likely get a decent bowl game and they need to end the season strong and win the damn thing as they are capable of doing to cap a really good year.
