+ Front 7, even the ILB's, but particularly Daniels and Perry

+ Cobb looks like has that burst back.

+ Murphy wasn't perfect but performed well enough against a tough matchup.

+ Team seems to have an attitude.  We may not be ground and pound, but we won't be pushed around.

Will get that cleaned up.

- MM time management at end of first half.

Same thing I said in the game thread.

We punched them in the mouth. On both defense and second half offense.

MM played a Holmgren. Tried all sorts of offensive stuff in the first half. Let Aaron indulge himself by airing it out. Figured out at halftime what would work and adjusted perfectly.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet: Our rookie punter was awfully good today.

+ I will be the first to say - and I can't believe it - the D changed this game by itself.  if they didn't hold serve, we would not have weathered that game, kudos

+ punting was good - since that was a question mark, good deal.

+ sticking it out and getting the w ... wasn't pretty but i will take it all day every day

- starting offense was not good, ar12 was not great today, but enough to win, that's all that counts.

- missed calls by ref's a couple really questionable calls, PF on cobb? taunting, cmon man

Pluses:

Defense! The defense was in Wilson's face all day. Nick Perry and Clay Matthews got pressure early, Mike Daniels made the Seahawk line look foolish all day. He's a man among boys. Tip of the hat to Dom Capers.

The offense stepped up big time in the second half against a really, really good defense.

Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb both at 100% is just a joy to watch. So. Many. Weapons. If this unit stays healthy, and the offensive line gels, look out. Could be every bit as good as the 2011 unit that carried the Packers to a 15-1 record.

Mike McCarthy-too often, I feel that he gets a tad conservative when we should be going for the kill. Not today. The play calling, after stuttering early on, was sharp. He played to what was there. The short passing game, with the occasional shot down field keeping Seattle's D honest, was just what we needed. And he didn't abandon the run. Monty had some nice runs late. We knew he wouldn't get 100 against Seattle. But he was just good enough to keep the offensive game plan balanced.

Vogel with some beautiful punts! One that was a 57 yard monster.

It was a dumb penalty, yes, even though we only sacrificed some yardage (still got the first down), but I love seeing Bennett out there, and sticking up for AR12. Probably not a penalty, as the defender didn't lead with his head, but that sends a message to Aaron that Martellus has his back, and that is worth more, to me, than the 5 or 10 yards we lost. I LOVE having the twin towers Bennett and Kendricks out there.

Minuses:

I think this is a problem. The offensive line. It's hard to let two Pro Bowlers go in back to back seasons, and not feel a strain. Then, losing Bulaga to an injury really exposed that the line has its work cut out for it. We cannot let Rodgers get hit like that. Yes, the Seattle defense is exceptional--Seattle's secondary is one of the very best in the game with Thomas back, and the front seven--even missing Avril--is special. But Rodgers should have more time to throw. This is a team that will make a run at the Super Bowl, and could win it all. But if #12 gets hurt, that's all she wrote. If we need to keep Bennett in a blocking position to help out Murphy on the right tackle more, then do it. Protect the franchise. The guys played hard against an exceptional defensive unit. But they need to tighten up.

+  We'll get to see Pete Carroll be a complete hypocrite when he complains about the refs.  After the Fail Mary game, nobody in the Seahawks organization has any moral standing to complain about refereeing.

+ Aaron Rodgers didn't scream like a soccer player when he got his foot stepped on.

- Buck and Aikman seem to think it's OK to grab the back of a player's jersey, and it's not blocking in the back.

- I think that was a horse-collar.  Although when I saw the play live I thought it was a face-mask.

oh and one more + 80 taking the penalty for 12, don't let that guy get that shot on 12 for free.  i have no problem with that pf penalty.

This times 100. Locker room chemistry cannot be underestimated. #80 just gave the franchise a big warm fuzzy.

"If I think somebody takes a shot at you, I'm your huckleberry."

Bennett is a big time personality. And he's a team player.

Defense.  Wow... what a welcomed addition.

Bennett - Dumb to get the personal foul but coming to the defense of the franchise is admirable IMO.  I like the attitude and welcome it on this team.

Punter was excellent.

Huge win that will pay off big time for playoff seeding.

No catastrophic injuries

This.  Couldn't have said it better myself.

Great post!

Nice fedya.

Adding a negative for Trevor Davis. He fair caught the ball inside the 5 and missed opportunities to fair catch earlier and let it bounce. Not a Davis fan, think we need Cobb back there.

- Rodgers held the ball too long and Im concerned. on replaying many of those htere were open receivers standing there. I cant imagine how difficult playing the position is at that level, but he has to work on getting the ball out quicker and not looking at the rush too early.

Ty is gonna have some monster games against softer defenses. good thing to move on from Lacy. I wouldnt be surprised if hes out of football in the next year or two.

Ill wait to judge the defensive progress until next week. We have had success against this offense before and their OL is atrocious. CLay needs stickum on his gloves so he can finish a tackle

- Capers at the end of the first half.

I blame that more on McCarthy than Capers.  It's one thing to be trying to conserve time on the clock if you're up against a QB like say Tom Savage or Scott Tolzien.  To give a top 10 NFL QB like Russell Wilson more time to make plays is foolish.   He's got to take some consideration as to who he's facing when trying the ole "call timeouts to get the ball back" strategy before the end of the half.  You absolutely cannot give these top QBs extra time and chances.

+++ Monty was excellent. DL dominant. Perry blossoming. Burnett/HHCD are a fantastic duo, one of the best in the game. MLBs active and smart. Cobb back in the slot doing slot things.

--- McCarthy's call for TO was nonsense. Watch the deep ball, boys. Few moments when tackling wavered. OL had a rough day (against one of the best front 7s in football). David fair catch on the 5 in a field position game.

I have never bought into the Buck/Aikman bias crap. But their harping on the Seattle bad calls and not pointing out the other ones the other way sure gave legitimacy to the complaint. It was a poorly officiated game all around.

Daniels

Rodgers overcame a weak OL to put up a very nice game against a great defense

Defense as a whole, this team is going to win a lot of games if they can keep that up

OL played much better in the 2nd half, with a rookie 6th rounder at RT

-

First half OL

8 Penalties, Bennett personal foul and delay of game (at home, not good) by Rodgers stood out. Week one bugs I guess

Our DL is good. Very good.
Daniels was a madman! He took over the game much like Reggie could back in the day. Perry was good early. And Fackrell says
Our DBs are good. There were some gaffes, to be sure, they they were very solid.
ARod. What can I say? Guts, grit, determination, and smart...
All of our WRs. They block as good as they catch. And Allison returns next week.
I'll even throw a bone to the STs. Although Vogel caught some breaks with penalties on returns, Crosby made me nervous, we allowed more return yardage that I would've liked, and Zook was gobbling pills on the sideline, they didn't hurt us with a major gaffe.

-
Our OL is bad. Very bad on the right side. It's clear Arod won't last long behind that kind of pass pro. They're not much better at run blocking.
Matthews. He may have a specific role or responsibilities that aren't conducive to him rushing the passer, but I expect a helluva lot more from him than what I saw today. He had a couple of good pressures, including having Wilson dead to rights, but whiffed and allowed a big play. Most other plays I saw him bouncing around the wash in the middle, mostly getting blocked...

Neutral
MM catching guff for clock management before the half. I have no problems with calling TOs in that situation, but I have BIG problems with a "prevent" defense that allows 63 yards on back-to-back plays in 17 seconds. That's playing about as poorly as a defense can play. HHCD and Rollins being soft and lazy in pass coverage, followed by Burnett getting stoned by the RB on a blitz and watching Wilson run away from him, all while our 10 million dollar LB is getting blocked.
There's your 'clock management' right there.

Refs. They were as scattershot as they were bizarre. I think they were mostly fair on holding calls (including defensive holding), but they were somewhere in outer space with called PI, both offensive and defensive, and calls not  made.
Lane's ejection is unusual, and I think those able to re-watch the game will see he was involved in some sideline skirmishes and jaw-jacking from their first defensive series that likely had an influence on ejection decision. Adams wasn't guiltless by any means, Lane surely wasn't, but the refs imposing the penalty on Lane was the right call, IMHO.
Bennett? I have ALWAYS supported the "Kyle Turley" method of enforcement when needed. Damn right you take that penalty. He made 'em pay for it later.

A post just for Aikman, Buck, and Fox....
Keeping in mind that people have biases against these 2 for many different reasons, and are gonna bitch no matter what they say, today was beyond bizarre!
It wasn't as much as them harping on Lane getting ejected, it was how they were tripping over their tongues trying to get the words out fast enough.
Then Howie goes on a rant at halftime about the call, and his comments and inflection make it clear he thinks that has been THE major influence on this game, when NOTHING could be further from the truth. And he should know better (if he doesn't already), so I assume his boss wants him to re-enforce the controversy and make that the focus of attention.
Then they bring Blandino and Pyorrhea to swirl it some more and add "legitimacy" to the comments made by their "talent".
And that still wasn't enough. Aikman had to fan the flames at least one more time during the 3rd quarter, as I recall.
The insinuations were clear to me, no matter who was making the comments.
"Well, the reason why the Seahawks are losing this game is because the referees made a bad call ejecting Lane when the penalty should have been on the Packers instead".

I seriously don't recall a game being this bad in several years. The bias was obvious to the point of being blatant. And facts be damned, they were NOT going to present any rebuttal, or even ask for a ruling from the field!

So.... you -ing  ers.

Buck... Go piss in somebody's shoes.
Aikman...  . Idiot.
Long...  . You're a bootlicker.
Fox...

I dunno. Maybe you take that penalty in the 2nd quarter, not when you're almost in FG range trying to ice a game.

GB didn't need points at that point. They needed that first down. Which is why AR went head first. I thought Wright lead with his helmet.

Wright has a long history with this kind of crap with GB. He was ejected years ago for trying to twist Dick Rodgers head clean off using Rodgers face mask. Last year he went head hunting on Dick Rodgers again and was flagged for 15 yards.

I think Bennett was fully aware going after Wright was after the whistle and the first down would stand.

**** Wright and I'm glad someone went after that cocksucker.

My issue with the timeouts is that there were only two when the series started. Say you stop the Seahawks and use both. They can still run the clock to almost nothing before punting. In other words it's a no win situation.

Doomed.

MM doesn't think like that.
