Just talked to former Packers great Jerry Kramer and asked if him if he watched the game today: "You bet your sweet ass. I'm tickled about today's game. I saw a team come together again and play like they have the ability to play. Aaron had a hell of a day. Starks and Lacy were both running and the defense played well. When everything comes together and they play with their heart, they are pretty exciting."

Davante Adams believes he avoided a serious knee injury. A little sore but thinks he'll be ok.

Ridiculously good news if he plays like he has over the past two weeks in Arizona. If Shields and Bakh are also back, the Packers will have a shot next Saturday.

+ the 4 straight touchdown drives reminded me of the Atlanta playoff game

- eddies fumble and a few overthrows early.

I used to watch First Take every morning while I got ready for work.........until the Packers Super Bowl win b/c Skip Bayless refused to give the Pack any credit.  That was the end of my and ESPN's relationship.  Ended up dropping cable that April b/c ESPN was the only channel I watched that I couldn't get with an HD antenna.  So yes, Skip Bayless was the reason I dropped cable.

Team showed some energy and emotion today

Tretter started slow but finished strong and had a great game

Receivers made a number of plays

Ginger with several good punts

Lacy and Starks ran with authority

Have to start faster next week

Hated the Washington TD drive after the half

Redskins targeted Hyde a lot with success

+ Packers could have easily curled up to whither and die after the 1st Q. I love the confidence they showed.

- Some big gashes by the 'skins but no harm with the turnover

++ That big sh!t-eatin' grin by Rogers was great and he was definitely sharin' the love.

where the hell was that all year?

product of WSH below average defense? MM/AR finally figure it out?

I don't know. But their offense was humming. AR seemed to be in total control. Making calls at the line.

Get Ready M***** F*****!!!!

If ever there was a game for the offense to wake up, this was up. They finally ran into a secondary they could get open against. Amazing that Will Blackmon starts for that team.

Outside of the first quarter, it was nice to see them play at the high level they were capable of. Seems like forever since that had happened.

Some of the standouts:

1) 73…had a rough start, but really played well for them.

2) 84…get him on the field. That move for the 2-point conversion was sick. This kid can get open.

3) 17…nice to see him finally play up to his abilities, although he got hurt again. But those were big time catches he put up prior to the injury.

4) Entire secondary…they just kept making plays today even with all the injuries. How about Gunter with the big break-up

5) 53…great game by him

But most importantly, this was the first time in forever where they looked like a team. Seeing AR and MM smiling was a sight for sore eyes. Maybe it will only last a week, but it gives me hope that these two can still work together. In the meantime, on to Arizona with no pressure on you. It can't go worse than last time.

Quentin Rollins' tackling technique is pretty textbook for a guy who played college football for the first time 16 months ago.

Packers: 9 wins in the Wild Card round, the most all-time

Jay (Guden) says they (WAS) could not get home on pass rush because ball was coming out so quick. Part of reason they didn't blitz I would assume.

Lacy/Starks is 1st Packers duo to each rush for 45+ yards & TD in a playoff game since Super Bowl I (Taylor/Pitts)

#Packers CB coach Joe Whitt Jr. walked through locker room, reminding players media picked Washington. That chip on their shoulder is sharp.

From 1/3/16  I thought GB would have won division.  Either way the divisional and NFCC rounds are in tact.

Well, Seattle is very very good, except against Jeff Fisher coached teams for whatever reason.

There's a reason I want to avoid them in the first round.

It's coming together though.

I picked Pack to win but only gave them a 50/50 chance

+ Survived early onslaught and got back in game.

+Rodgers  12 men penalties

+ Team win in all 3 phases

-Redskins 28th rank D

Good showing against team GB ought to beat.

Enjoy the win and see what happens in the desert.

Chicken salad out of chicken ****.  I actually saw an offense that reminded me of the Green Bay Packers.  Tretter, nice job kid.

I actually have more than blind optimism for the Cardinals game.

Positives:

The offense showed up

Tretter held his own

I loved the play of the secondary.  The Packers do have a good defensive backfield and just think how good they will be once they get more experience

AR is one smart dude and how he can see those things like 12 men on the field with everything else he has going on with each play if freaking amazing.

I liked Capers defensive calls

Negatives:

Not many to me but I still get concerned that they give up huge running plays right up the gut.  Maybe teams hit the right call against the blitz

My only other observation was that the refs pretty much let the teams play.  Almost to the point they weren't calling anything.  Especially the holding on every play from the Skins OL

Collectively they were the crew that called the least penalties in the regular season.  If holding was being allowed I imagine it worked out much better for us.  Holding calls have been drive killers for us during the long tough stretch for the offense.

AR12 is back! Not all the way but if he gets his confidence back 100%, the rest of the NFC should be VERY worried.

Defense holding it together early

----

TE raping our defense AGAIN. Fortunately the Cardinals don't really have an excellent TE. Of course it may not matter. It seems every TE does well vs. this defense.

Poor start by offense, possibly due to the wind in their face.

Pluses

Rollins - Really excited about the potential of this young secondary. He played well and  is showing great ability as a tackler. His breakup on the SKins 3rd down prior to halftime was so good. Again, hope his quad injury isn't serious. They need him next week

HHCD - Developing into a stud FS. Was all over the field making plays. Another key piece in this young, exciting secondary going forward

I was giddy for the future watching this backfield of rooks, UDFAs and young guys in general bringing it.  That is a great unit along with guys like Daniels and Matthews to build a defense around.

TT's pick ups and Joe Whitt give me a case of the chubbs.

While his impact on the field was not positive, I was surprised to see Datone out there after leaving last week with a neck injury and then not practicing for the first half of the week.

Thought Randall Cobb had a nice game. Some very unfortunate comments out there about his signing being a mistake and the issue was really figuring out how to best utilize him and his playmaking skills.

I'll say this much for the game in general.  It was the first time we saw the Packers offense in months.  It is injury riddled but it was an offense firing again.  Granted, it was Washington but they beat them like they should've beat them, convincingly.

It's going to take a hell of an effort next week but at least we saw the team that could actually put up that fight.  Before this, it was a foregone conclusion the offense would do nothing.

Like Gunter a lot.  Sort of reminds me of Mike McKenzie without the dreds.  Gets in your face and plays with an attitude and has good ball skills.  He's not a speed guy but neither was MM.

There is no reason GB can't have the best secondary in football.  Randall and Rollins will only get better and add in Shields and Ha Ha and Burnett holy ****

A lot of good plus/minus covered here already, but the biggest positive was the contribution and stepped up performances from everywhere.  Masthay was great, ST's very good, secondary great, OLBs (Perry, Neal) and interior DL very good, great slot CB play (PD and tackling) from Hayward, Joe Thomas in the middle, OL, Lacy/Starks, WRs hanging on to the ball, coaching/use of time outs.  It's crazy to think of how well the Packers did across the board.

Negatives, minor quibbles:

  • Slow start by O (positive spin, quick corrections to go up tempo and give Tretter help - huge to make those adjustments quicker, which MM has not typically done)
  • Missed INT opportunities by secondary, which could have put the game out of hand sooner (positive spin, guys are in position making plays on the ball, and also - I really like the young secondary guys, they're all ballers and will create insane competition next year).

Quick question about offensive tackle technique. Tretter couldn't handle the bull rush that led to the safety. what did he change to handle it better? or was it scheming away from him with up-tempo, roll outs, etc?

I've got one wild hair about yesterdays game. Hyde has to be smarter in the return game in AZ. He handed Washington close to 40 yards in filed position in the first half. I get the wind, conditions, etc. But catching a punt on the 4 with a 30 MPH tail wind? Let that ball go in the end zone Micah.

We had a really bad windstorm yesterday and our power went out with the Pack trailing 11-0.   I decided to listen to the stream from WTMJ on my cell phone.  Apparently there is a lengthy delay because friends of mine in PA. were texting me with updates way ahead of Larrivee's call.  Anyway, when the Packers started doing well, I didn't want to change the mojo by going to a bar to watch the game, so I kept the phone plastered to my ear, praying that the battery would last through the end.

By the way, Larrivee's tough to listen to.  He made a gain of 8 or nine yards seem like Lacy was taking it to the house.
