I believe it was fandame who brought this up, maybe a couple others too, but I think the play of the young guys in the secondary is invaluable at this point. Heyward, McMillan, and now House starting to show why he was being considered at starter opposite Tramon- these guys getting meaningful time on the field may serve this defense well in a stretch run. Shields was playing close to level of two years ago before he went down, and hopefully Wood can come back and be in that mix as well. But the more DB's they can field that have some clue the better imo.

I agree with you to a point, but I see it more as DD saying "this particular play is more suited for Cobb, no sense making him a blocker, I can do that".

DD may be grasping for playing time but I don't think he feels he should be taking primary target opportunities away from Cobb in the red zone. In fact it makes me wonder what MM was thinking on that play call. If Cobb doesn't get that ball thrown to him he ends the game with just 2 receptions. This is unacceptable offensive plan design when you have a weapon like Cobb.

Missin Crosby is his new nickname. WTF happened to him?

Boris, I saw online somewhere yesterday that Slocum had gotten Crosby to change his run-up or steps in the early part of the season -- and he hasn't kicked the same since. Now its in his head. Hopefully during the bye he'll get it back together.

Slocum needs to be fired if this is true. It's like a golf swing. Why is Slocum screwing with his swing?

Cobb should have 12-15 touches every game if not more. Thankfully Driver did the right thing there. No way Driver gets into the EZ on that play if he's on the receiving end instead of Cobb.

Agree with your evaluation with one exception about Rodgers being efficient. Too many really bad throws, hard to be efficient with a less than 50% completions. He made up for that with some great throws.
And what was Finley doing trying to stretch for an extra yard with an open hand and the football tucked to his belly? I had to laugh at that one.
The Cards may have dropped some balls, but I'll say it again: The kids are alright! Without their development and being this good this early in the season and with how poorly our offense has performed, I think we would be sitting below .500 if they were "typical" rookies. One thing I'll give them (the DBs) credit for that I never would have thought possible, and that is their tackling. They tackle better than I thought they would. It's no wonder that Shields has not been missed much. He has got to be thinking about his job.

I was also impressed with Moses yesterday. He seems to be around the ball a lot or in the middle of the play. He was the guy who got a hand on a Skelton pass just before it was released to throw it off-target yesterday. He was also the guy to recover the blocked punt last week. He seems to have a knack for finding the ball. He may make some mistakes in situations he hasn't seen or because of his inexperience, but he makes up for them in other cases.

It's been a big plus that these guys have gotten great experience and yet been able to perform. Kudos also to the coaches for getting them ready.

I don't know if DD thought, "I'm having a bad day and I think Cobb can get the TD," or if he thought, "I'm a better blocker and we need this right now." Either way, it's pretty unselfish. I'm okay with him thinking that he's having a bad day and it would be better for Cobb. I'd like to see Finley have that same sense of self-awareness.

Wait. Check that. Look at the replay of Rodgers' 25-yard scramble. It's Cobb who comes back and blocks for him.

Totally disagree. He was horrible with tackling last year but he has been solid this year and has even made a couple "big" tackles before his injury. After nearly falling off the face of the earth late in training camp, he was looking good and I credit him for that too.
I have all the respect in the world for Donald Driver. He lacks no confidence. None. He's been through too much in this life and come too far to ever doubt himself. What he did when he broke that huddle was wise, selfless, and one of those acts of leadership that define Donald's character. Driver instilled the confidence he has in himself within Cobb.

That's respect and letting this kid know that he's the kind of player that belongs making big plays at big moments and the sooner he understands that responsibility and builds confidence by making big plays at big moments the better this team will be during the playoff push.

You can see by the way Cobb attacked the endzone how much Driver's push meant to him and how he wanted to make Driver proud.

Donald Driver is a big reason the WRs on this team developed into the best group in the NFL, the best group in the history of the great Green Bay Packer franchise, and quite possibly the deepest, most dynamic group in the history of the game.

I don't think I'd trade this set of receivers for any other that's ever played. To the last man they're all humble, accountable, and dedicated. The way they play off each other and support each other is the embodiment of professionalism and sportsmanship. Quickie set that standard and he's going to have a statue outside of Lambeau one day.

Please don't get me wrong. I am not a Driver hater. He has been a great Packer and will no doubtedly be inducted into the Packer HOF. I did over do it on the confidence thing, my bad.

I do believe that his talent has dropped off and he no longer can separate from defenders with any regularity. That means he's trying to catch a ball with defenders very close to him. That can lead to drops. Perhaps he has moments of low confidence. All I see is that he is dropping a lot of passes.

One point that I haven't seen made: Refs can be less likely to flag a vet than a 1-2 year player. DD could have been called for interference on that pick play. Maybe there was some of that in his thought process.

Driver, in turn, would do the dirty work.
The result? A 13-yard third-and-goal touchdown to the incredible Cobb, who continues to make breathtaking plays week after week...

I'm having a hard time reconciling this with this quote from the JSO that Hungry 5 posted in another thread:

quote:
The decider: Quarterback Aaron Rodgers wasn't as sharp with his throws as he would have liked Sunday against Arizona, but one area where he was on target was with his audibles.
Against the Cardinals, both of the touchdown passes Rodgers threw to Randall Cobb came after audibles...

It doesn't make sense to me... Confused
