  • WRs simply cannot get separation.  Still.  It's baffling what has happened, and it's beyond baffling that MM can't implement something to change that.

I found the PIs on JJ to be a positive. These WRs have been getting mugged all season so it was nice to see Jones fight back for position.

+ ST and defense gave O a short field multiple times.

- 1/3 in goal to go situations.  Game could have actually been a blowout, but O had a very slow start again.

+ Randall and Rollins took their lumps today, but they also made big plays.  Really excited about their potential.

- 3rd down conversions were very bad once again.  Hard to get the O moving when there is no rhythm.

+ Long drive by O in 3rd quarter.  Even though it ended in a field goal, it was methodical and chewed up clock.

- Ball handling in 3rd "wet" game of the season was poor again.  Dropped passes, Starks' fumble. MM must go nuts, because it is certainly practiced for.

The O is what it is, at this point.  Adams is just not right.  Lacy is up and down, as is the O line.  If the team goes deep into the playoffs, Rodgers will have to pick up his game to an MVP level.  He hasn't been there all year.

Well, I remember being on this board after this happened. And many we're none to happy with Brent:

Thanks for the link.  Interesting comment from MM about headset issues in the first half.  For the billions that the NFL makes, it amazes me that the communication system (playcaller to QB) is so poor (pun not intended).

No additional pos or negs vs. what has been posted, just a few comments.

I have some opinions on AR12/MMM thing, but none contain anything beyond speculation, so I'm just going to let it play out some more until we know more.

A replacement for Adams (at least for this year) is needed, but the Packers are stuck.  If they use Abbrederis, he gets injured.  I can't see how they trust him until he shows he knows how not to get injured (if he can).  The replacement should have been Ty Montgomery, but his injury was a lot worse than we were lead to believe.  He won't see the field until postseason with today's playoff scenarios.  Today's performance to me showed that Janis! needs some more time to prove he is more than a ST player. (he's good at that!)  Maybe he can be more effective next year.

+ Win, playoffs.

-  I'm not even sure anymore.  What's going on with this team?  The first several games they looked great.  Jordy wasn't even in those games.  Rodgers was being compared to Jordan at the QB position.  We were all worried about the defense.

Fast forward to now and the offense has been a cluster****.  Nobody can catch passes or get open.  Our run game is a yo-yo.  And the defense has been bailing us out every game.

Such a weird season.  Can we just get the best of the first two halves of the season for the playoffs please?  This team has too many good players for it to be so...so-so.

...the first several games defenses were playing us in a way that was most successful in past, sell out to limit big plays in the passing game. This meant 2 deep safeties, more zone, not much press coverage. Then DCs finally realized that they had been giving our receivers too much respect, and once they began playing one high safety, with press coverage on the outside, we could not make plays on the outside. This allowed teams to play more defenders in the box, which limited our run game. Many got excited when MM took over play calling & thought it resulted in us putting up 400+ yards of offense last week. The stark realization was that Rod Marinelli's odd decision to play soft on the outside, with two deep safeties was the main reason that we were successful.

In the second half yesterday MM went with some different formations (Cobb in backfield), to force Oakland to put more DBs on the field. This got us a favorable match-up with Jones being covered by a backup safety who was only playing because of injury. The problem is that the better defenses have more depth at DB, and no matter what personnel package we get them in, we can not get a match-up we can win. The only alternative appears to be to play Abby more (which AR suggested in his presser), hope Monty can get back, or employ more "man beater" schemes to get guys open. Of course even with all of our "problems" we are in the playoffs for the 7th straight year.

Really don't care for that pass call at the end of the game that 12 threw the pick on.   That's the same kind of end of game blunder call that we're all too familiar with.

12's accuracy is nowhere near what we're accustomed to.  It's a really strange thing to see.  Weren't there rumors of a hip issue with him?  I just can't understand it being anything but physical when he's played as well as he has for as long as he has.  He's flat out missing throws this season he never has in the past.

Lacy is a head scratcher.    I think he more than anyone has been the ire of Rodger's preparation admonishments.

Bulaga seems to be getting better by the week and I like Tretter better at center than Corey.  Hopefully he's not too bad after watching him limp around towards the end.  Same with Bak.  Hope that ankle isn't too serious.  He's crucial.

I can understand MM's frustration with the negativity.  It's been a rough year with distractions, injuries, and high expectations.  Through all that they've made the playoffs again and as the coach he has to try to get the team ramped up in the next few weeks.  As a team there seems to be a lot of internal conflict this year.  He has to do everything he can to wash that away.

I definitely can understand the frustration but what really bugs me is condescending responses from players and coaches at the podium to reporters asking questions all the fans are wondering about, asking them in a proper and polite manner and getting hostility and/or 'I'm smarter than you smirks.'

Even without a defensive TD we scored enough points to win 24-20. That should be the only fact that matters. A lot of things were going against GB in this game...it was wet and incredibly soggy, the Raiders were hot after upsetting the Broncos, it was in Oakland, and the Packers were dealing with injuries. They didn't win with style, that won't always happen. I wish they had been more consistent on offense, but they still scored enough points to win.

I've got zero issue with AR's comments after the game. Go back and look at a lot of the comments posted on this site regarding the 2015 Packers. Who should start, who sucks, who should be fired, how to fix the offense, the defense. Stuff you expect to see every year but this year it's ratcheted up something fierce. Rodgers hears the same things each week. Some of them are so off base because this year has been such a numbing grind. My God, every offensive series this year has felt like a grind. This year has been the least enjoyable 10 win season I can ever remember. Almost nothing about this year has been fun. Even after wins like yesterday you walk away feeling like way too much effort was spent by a good team that can't get out of it's own way.

On top of that Rodgers has to answer the "what's wrong with you guy's" every week while also hearing Olivia Munn might be the problem. Reporters calling players parents.

I'd be sick of this year if I was AR as well. And yeah, I'd probably snap at a couple reports 16 weeks into a season like this one.

I don't agree it hasn't been fun year, there have been a lot of fun, cool moments...Hail Mary, 6-0, James Jones comeback, Rodgers making defenses pay for jumping offsides or not getting off the field fast enough, beating San Fran and Seattle, etc. There have been a lot of ups, but I will agree that it has been as frustrating a year as we have seen in a long time. The last few years the frustration has come at the end of the year, but it's frustrating to see such a good team continue to deal with injuries and just flat out inconsistency. They aren't the same team week to week and it's hard to pinpoint why. Anything can happen in the playoffs though, we saw a 10 win team who had suffered too many frustrating losses in 2010 go on a wild run to a championship.

I can see McCarthy and Rodgers getting frustrated and venting when they have to deal with the media given the way the season has been going. That's understandable.

I'm disappointed and troubled with Rodgers, though. He's very smart and deliberate when he talks to the press, and really too clever by half lately.  He's in some fashion calling out other players and the HC week after week -- this week, "lack of direction" and "What did Mike say?" stand out. Body language, clipped, smarmy, or rote answers, all this is building a narrative that the great Aaron Rodgers isn't happy, goddamn it.

Bad coaching, underachieving players. That's his narrative, and now it's taken off and will be an anchor around the team regardless of how the season turns out.

That's not leadership, that's self-aggrandizement. Petty, ego-driven horse****. Deflects blame to management and teammates. All while (even, admittedly, not having Jordy, Phat Eddie, Dropvante, no Monty, dum Janis!, etc., etc.) he, Aaron Rodgers, is not playing well either.

You know what, Aaron? Try shutting the **** up or at least knock off the juvenile antics.

Of all people he should know what happens when an iconic player for a franchise starts thinking and acting like he's bigger than the team, the coach, the other players.

They won a tough game yesterday, really a gut check of sorts. A lot of players busted their asses. 12 goes in front of the cameras and it's like he's outside the tent pissing in. Way to congratulate and rally your team over a hard fought win.

Sure they could have played a lot better but 1) The way that game was trending most observers certainly thought it was going to be a loss and they gutted it out, and 2) One of the reasons the Packers didn't score more was because their QB missed throws and threw one of the most bone-headed interceptions of his career.

I can understand the frustration. As a fan my expectations were high for this season. All our starting offense was going be back, that is unheard of. We were putting away teams early last season, that was going to continue, plus with a new play caller, I thought, our predictable tendencies will be gone and new exciting plays will be called and executed. With Coach Mike spending time with the defense, our D was going improve and keep teams in check. We were going to dominate this season. In the NFC champ game, we were world champ beaters for 3.5 quarters, then we were most incompetent team that ever played the game. That was never going to happen again! We were going to keep the foot on the pedal, play aggressive, etc. So what happened? Jordy goes down, Cobb, Adams, Ty got hurt and played hurt. No Q at TE, Rodgers is off on some of his throws, is his confidence shaken? Teams figure out that without Jordy that they can play man and stop the run. Rodgers doesn't check out of plays anymore. The play calling is horrendous, no rhythm, can't convert on 3rd and short. We lose to bad Lions and Bears teams at home.

On the bright side, the D is playing well, we stopped some excellent runners this year, the rookies are playing like vets. Both the D and special team are competent and not a liability. We are 10-4.

However, since the 3rd or 4th week Rodgers and Coach Mike have been saying the offense needs to play better. Except for a few drives here and there, the Dallas and Vikings game, a lot still needs to be fixed. Maybe the coaches and players see the stuff that works in practice, maybe  the offense is humming in practice, somehow that does not happen in the games. That would be frustrating. How do you fix that?

It's possible we're reading to much into this. Maybe he just had a tummy ache. But...

Rodgers is acting like a total prima donna.

I've been ultra-pessimistic about this team ever since the loss to Detroit but at least I'm not the QB1. For him to come out (after a win no less) and act like this is just bull****. If he's truly upset because of HIS OWN play, fine, come out and say it. He's never hesitated to do that before (though, he's rarely had to). His attitude now makes it seem like he's  upset with everyone BUT himself.

Win as a team, lose as a team. And as the leader of this team, he needs to quit being such a little bitch and take some responsibility for the way this season as turned out so far.

Interesting, JS Online quoted MM incorrectly.  This is what he actually said:

"We're right where I want to be.  We're right where we need to be.  You know, the style points you can flush that, I'm sick and tired of talking about the negativities that go on, hey we won 10 games.  Okay, we lost 3 games at the last play of the game, and Denver beat us. So, that's the overview of our season and we got a chance to win 11 next week."

Also, if you watch the Rodgers presser on Packers.com they edited out the very end.  Rodgers just got up and left in the middle of a question.

It's hard to tell what's going on between McCarthy and Rodgers. It's obvious McCarthy sees a team that's getting no joy out of the game right now. They're frustrated, waiting for that moment when they feel like they've arrived. Like they're finally playing the way they're capable. McCarthy seems to sense that they're still pressing too hard, and is trying to get them to relax.

But Rodgers doesn't seem to be having it. He's demanding execution and he's pushing harder for it- so there's conflict between him and the coach in this way.

I mentioned this yesterday- after last week, after this week... Same feeling. Winning seems to be more relief than joy. That's not what winning should feel like.

You look at the score and you should be happy. 28-7, 30-20. Oakland is a good and improved football team. You beat them. You took care of the cowboys at home. You're in the driver's seat.

i guess it just comes down to enjoying a win. It's hard to win in the NFL. They've done it 10/14 times...
