To be fair to Crosby, the wind clearly caught that one because it hooked hard even though it looked like he would split the uprights. I think part of the problem is that he really doesn't attempt many FGs...he's 24th in the NFL in attempts and he was about that last year. He was was also in the bottom of the league in attempts from 40+ last year. You can practice all you want, but kicking in the game is A LOT different than practice and you get rusty if you don't do it for a while. It's not a negative that we don't kick FGs, we're 2nd in the NFL in TDs scored, but it hurts the kicker when he doesn't get a lot of work.

Someone I was watching with said Rodgers had on a different helmet and then switched it out just before the kneel-down. I didn't see him with a different helmet, but I noticed him scrambling to put on a helmet and then running on the field.
If his helmet was cracked, then thank goodness he has the new model to prevent concussions -- unless someone sat on it or something.

BS. Make the freaking kick.
Agree. I bet they still practice making kicks. And while it's obviously not the same as a game, it's still working on being successful when called upon. All in all, I have little faith right now if Crosby were called upon to win a game at the very end, ala the Giants regular-season game last year. This year something is off, whether it's his approach or the timing or whatever, he has to get it worked out.

100% agree. When you add in the fact that offense couldn't sustain a drive and had turnovers as well, great performance from the D.
quote:The OL isn't opening up holes in the running game. Green isn't a superstar, but if there was a hole open then I'm confident he could gain some good yards. But there weren't and I don't know if it's the blocking scheme or just the OL, but it's not an issue of physical talent.
I thought Green left a lot of yards on the field. Yes, the OL has it's deficiencies, but I see a back who doesn't have the vision to get 3 if the hole isn't where the play call is. Green is starting to look like B. Jackson 2.0.. Assignment sure, no fumbles, good pass protection and can't run between the tackles.
I'm ready for Starks on 1rst and 2nd.. Take the good with the bad.

Not a fan. What is his record for big kicks. Less than 50 percent, I bet.
Crosby has had seven chances to make a field goal that would tie or put GB ahead at the two-minute warning or later. He's made three. All the misses have come on the road, FWIW.
How that compares to the league average, I don't know. And kickers who truly have nerves of steel in the clutch -- your Vinatieris, etc. -- are rare. But I would agree that Crosby really hasn't shown he's got the mental tools to match the physical talent.
Beat the Giants and the Falcons.
We dont play the Falcons unless youre looking to
a potential playoff matchup
a potential playoff matchup
Crosby is 8 of 9 from 20 to 49 yards and he's in the top 10 in almost all kickoff categories FWIW. We could do worse.
I believe he is referring to clutch kicks and not upcoming opponents.
Bob McGinn β@BobMcGinn Mason Crosby has 3 misses from 32 and within since Dec. '10. All 3 have hit off upright: '10 vs. SF (lt), '11 vs. TB (rt), Sun vs. Jax (rt)
For reason that stat made me think of this:
He Hates These Uprights!

Thanks. He is truly bad in the clutch.quote:Originally posted by CitizenDan:quote:Originally posted by Goalline:quote:Originally posted by Henry:

You're confused. Blaine Gabbert has a torn labrum. It is Jay Cutler who has the torn labia.

JJ must have the same thing, or do we have a conspiracy?

I watched the AR youtube v. JJ's pic and it must be a sticker - "cracks" are in the exact same spot.

Same thing happened at Indy. Gale force winds in the dome?
Crosby is striking the ball and it's doing weird things. Which means he isn't kicking the ball properly. He's putting english on it like a pool cue.
Dudes got a tremendous leg. We need him. I hope he can work through his issues & correct them quickly.

Is it possible the short kick-off work he is being asked to do is effecting his FG mechanics? There was a comment the other day about how the Packers have been kicking short because they are so confident in their KO coverage to stop the opponent inside the 20 (which they've been quite successful at) versus giving them the ball at the 20...
I don't see Crosby's issue as primarily technical.
If they were, his percentage success when not clutch would be close to when clutch.
His kicks in the clutch, on average, are astonishingly poorer than those when it is not clutch. Something preceding technique is blowing up technique and that would be his head.

The Pack has done several different kickoffs over the years to combat returners (i.e. Hester). Also, this shouldn't be an excuse. Dude is just in a slump.
It looks to me like he's simply over-swinging and the ball is coming off the ground too hot as a result. That's why it's knuckling while it's in the air.
You mean on kickoffs? I think they're trying to kick it short because he's putting right at the goalline which makes the returner think about whether to kneel or run it out, delaying the return by a split second. They're trying to get them down inside the 20.
I don't think he's in a slump, I think he's just missed some kicks, it happens. It looks worse because attempted so few kicks, 5th fewest in the league. He's great inside 50, but 1 of 4 from 50+. There could have been a million factors as to why he missed, none of which are that he's simply not a good kicker. Not trying to make excuses for him, but I'm also not ready to write him off.

Great point about trying to land the ball near the GL on kickoffs.
Great strategy if your kicker can pull it off.

I heard or read an interview with him where he said he has been basically trying too hard on the 50+ attempts instead of sticking with his usual "wind up" and rhythm. He said he was going to practice sticking with is usual approach no matter the distance.

That has nothing to do with missing 32-yarders.

is it about time to cut him?
Yes, since he's lost them so many games this season.
I'm sure Dave Rayner is looking for work!

There is a roster spot open and they have had 2 punters before.
So Crosby for kickoffs and non-clutch kicks and Keading for clutch kicks? TT is a genius!
I'd re-think using Kaeding and clutch in the same sentence.
Agreed. He's gagged in more playoff games than I can remember.

Apparently, you haven't watch The Chargers in the playoffs in the past.
can Nate throw a pass?
Just think of the possibilities, 2 kickers and a punter lining up for a FG.
Kaeding's clutch quotient = 0, assuming it is not possible to garner a lower score.

To hell with that, can he snap the ball and/or block?
