Woodson. His int and coverage at safety helping to shutdown Marshall.
Matthews.Matching his sack total from last season in two games. Relentless pressure.
Driver. Comes in on one play and is there wide open for the Dagger TD !
Special Teams. Perfect execution on the fake. Crabtree had a highway to run through as well.
D.J. Smith. Nice sack to push Bears back to around the 5 yd line.
Cobb. Always seems to be making key plays for 1st downs.
Benson. Ran tough all game. Kept the wheels spinning hard. Some good gains.
Crosby. Making solid FG kicks, so crucial in a close game like this.
Capers. With the scheme to shutdown the Bears "new look" offense.
Owning the Bears the last 5 games.
Gold package crowd making lots of noise out there.

-
Dropped passes. Jordy and Finley gotta make those.
Offensive line allowing 5 sacks.
One more plus that may have gone unnoticed: I have no doubt the perfectly executed fake FG gave Cosby and our line more time to make the later 54-yarder. The Bears had to respect the fake and you could see they hesitated just that split second, which lessened their line penetration.

Masthay was also pinning Hester on the sideline, and the punt coverage was great to hem him in. They had a perfect bubble around Hester so he couldn't even think about cutting back and was forced out on the sideline.

Geez, who would have thought two years ago everyone would be singing the praises of our STs through two games? Big Grin
Couple things I noticed:

+ We got great energy from the interior line. Daniels, Worthy and especially Raji had great games rushing the QB. People want to rag on J'Marcus Webb, and deservedly so, but Chicago would have been able to double CM3 if Chicago's interior line could have handled ours. This was a good game for young DL to get their confidence up after the reality check that was the SF game.

+ I don't want to pat myself on the back too much, but this game was a great example of what I and many others have been saying this offseason: improve the pass rush and EVERYONE looks better. Some were screaming that Woodson was over the hill and Williams had lost a step and our DBs were so terrible. We got some pressure against VaJayJay and our CBs looked like Pro Bowlers again and our Safetys like seasoned vets! If the DL and OLBs are doing their job pressuring the QB then everyone else looks better. I hope all of the people who were screaming that last years defense was the worst in NFL history, after being the #2 in points allowed the season before, are starting to realize exactly what the problem really was. Not the worst defense in NFL history, just lacking in pass rush. I'm not jumping the game and saying this defense is great, but I think it's clear that this defense is capable of doing what we need them to do and then some.

- Have to fix the mental mistakes. Rodgers missed a couple opportunities with audibles at the line, checking into the wrong thing and McCarthy had a couple head scratcher calls (all the 3rd and 1 calls). Just have to make sure not to force stuff when it's not there, take what the D gives you. Burnett had a big mental mistake that almost led to a TD, fortunately Marshall got alligator arms.

- We're back in the spotlight. This team thrives on being an underdog.

This will haunt the Bears for the rest of the year. The Bears are tremendous at blocking FG, but they sell out in doing so. I imagine they will be more hesitant after that. The one thing about that play that nobody has mentioned is that Mathsay took off to his left on the fake, the outside guy for the Bears went after him, if he had continue upfield he might have been in position to tackle Crabtree from behind.

As I suspected, Bush with zero defensive snaps last night. Tramon Williams allowed only 2 catches for 21 yards and two picks

I really like Bush, but he is just a ST guy. I hope last night was not just a Match-Up / Personnel Grouping / Scheme thing, and we will continue to see Hayward and Shields. Same with McMillian in place of Jennings.

I think this is what Capers planned on doing from the get go. Rushing the passer is hard work, so unless you're as talented as a CMIII, Demarcus Ware, etc., you need to put 120% effort every play to be successful. By rotating 3 guys, you can almost guarantee that they'll put everything into each play. Also keeps the opposing offense guessing, as each of those three players has different strengths, weaknesses and tendencies.

The LOLB and DE positions become all the more important now as teams will start to double and triple CMIII on a majority of plays. Whoever plays DL and LOLB need to be able to beat the single match-ups that they'll likely be getting. Worthy, Daniels, Walden, Moses and Perry need to step up. So far so good though, as that group combined for 2.5 sacks last night.

And interesting about Bush. He plays the majority of the game at SF, they look horrible. He doesn't play last night, they look great. And the Bears receivers are arguably better than the 49ers (Forte, Marshall, Jeffry, Bennett and Hester vs. Crabtree, Manningham, Davis, Gore and Moss), so it's not just the opponent. Hoping with House coming back, Bush will be so deep on the bench that the only downs he leaves the bench for are 4th downs.

Barring a setback, House will be back for the Seattle game. If McMillian, Hayward, House and Shields all stay healthy, we won't see Jarrett Bush taking many more defensive snaps from here on out. I can't say enough about how happy that makes me, even when the defense was dominant in 2010, Bush (and/or Lee) was able to see the field too much due to the secondary being a bit thin. The young guys will just get better.

Wow! Zero snaps on D. That is remarkable. I think they did start him last week because SF has a stronger run game than pass but decided this week that they'll live with keeping Bush on the bench.

So Tramon caught as many balls as the guy he was covering. Awesome stat.

YES! Right after Crabtree scored I thought "Slocum just made Crosby's job easier for the entire season. Now everyone has to take that play into account when they play the Pack." sooooooo glad it worked!

It seems like the rotation helped Perry and played to his strengths. According to PFF, Perry rushed the passer 15 of those 20 snaps and was in coverage only once. On those 15 rush attempts he forced 3 hurries. That's pretty nice productivity.

Compare that to the Niners game, where Perry played 67 snaps, rushed the passer on 25 of those snaps and caused no QB pressure of any kind.

Dum. He had as many drops as Jordy and Jones last night and the fumble was a perfect play by Tillman. He also made a couple of nice blocks down, allowing offensive linemen to pull and open lanes. Finley may not ingratiate himself to fans very well, but he's a mismatch and makes plays too. There's a reason he got a very nice, two-year contract.

Yup, so McCarthy and Thompson can determine if he'll ever be able to reach his potential. If he continues with his half-assed play, (that missed block was zero effort - yet he made a great grab on the ball low and outside), he will play out this 2 year deal and they'll move on.

1. The secondary; benching Bush in favor of Shields and Hayward. (Cant wait for House to return!) McMillian also looked like an upgrade from MD Jennings.
2. The pass rush; Clay, Raji remain outstanding, Worthy gets the big start and the defense explodes for 7 sacks, Perry/Walden/Moses splitting snaps opposite Clay were also solid.
3. Linebackers stepped up; Smith, Hawk really had great games. Nice to see Smith get that sack early to set the tone. Hawk with some solid tackling.

-
1. Drops; Finley, Nelson, Jones all with big drops during key plays that would have ended this game much, much earlier.
2. Newhouse got abused by Peppers. But nice work MM with switching protections at halftime to double Peppers.
3. A couple crap calls: P.I. on DJ Smith early in the game. What contact? And McMillian's pick should have been for six. He was never touched.
I have a hunch Jones running the wrong route wasn't an isolated incident for our receivers this season. I'm wondering if the reason Rodgers has had trouble finding deep routes is that our receivers are either breaking off their routes too soon or running sloppy routes or just not getting open. Rodgers has had some really dumb passes, but I guess if no one is getting open you have to go SOMEWHERE with the ball. I'd rather see him throw it away, but I can understand his frustration if he's not getting help from his receivers.

I was at the game... even met Ahman Green, who was standing outside in the parking lot area by the Pro Shop.

I got really, really, really intoxicated, which I haven't done in decades. I'm pretty sure the Pack won the game but I'll have to watch DVR to be sure.

My DD had his head up his ass on the drive home and rear-ended another vehicle south on 41.

Good news: Nobody was seriously hurt
Bad news: My wife is unimpressed with the condition of her vehicle
Worse news: Hangover + whiplash = ZOMG!!!!!

In fairness to that other QB, I thought he was 10 times the player than Cutler has ever been.

Agreed. Rich Campbell has always gotten a bad rap at X4 but the guy was better than Cutler by far.

Rodgers was upset no question, but it was the announcer giving the reason, not Rodgers. I wouldn't characterize it as Rodgers "calling out" Jones. He was just pissed.

Don't know if it was related, but Rodgers did not seem happy with himself in the post-game interview (on the field). The passing game is just off. Not by much, but it is off, and it is no doubt frustrating him.
