12-4, SB Champs. Long, painful season.
I have the same goals for the team every year:
Win 'em all at home and play .500 on the road. That's a 12-4 season.
If we beat the likes of the 49ers, that should put us in the 1 or 2 seed. Everybody has their own opinion on whether the week off is a good thing or not, but I think it's a huge advantage; not only for the rest but for game-planning as well.
From either of those positions, it's only a 2 game 'season' to make it to the SB. I like our chances from that point forward.
The Pack will need some good health and some guys to develop to take the next step. If I had a gun to my head, I'd say the Pack would be similar to last year with around a 10-6 record and maybe falling short of reaching the NFC Championship game. Guys like Nick Perry, Datone Jones, and others can change that if they meet or exceed expectations.
The Pack has done a fine job of replenishing the talent lost after 2010, but make no mistake there is quite a bit lost from that season. I just don't know if they've rebuilt back to that level yet. The biggest losses have been Clifton, Wells, and Nick Collins. They really have yet to be adequately replaced yet. I think they have adequately replaced Woodson with the combination of House, Hayward, and Shields. BJ Raji needs to get his 2010 form back as well, he just hasn't been the same guy since that year when he basically carried the D-Line at times.
Based on the schedule, 13-3 seems overly optimistic - even for July.
The 9er debacle has to stick in their craws- even for July. Love it when they all have chips on their shoulders.
13-3 just like the last Season of Destiny.
What I love is how we're primed to win the Super Bowl if we get there because we're an outdoor team used to playing in the elements. Denver and New England would be similarly equipped, but a lot of warm weather and dome teams would struggle there.
somewhere between 9-7 and 12-4. Goal is to make the playoffs every year & then: play well/get a good matchup/have the ball bounce our way/have the other team not play their best & get to the SB.

They were 10-6 in 2010 & the #6 seed in the playoffs. Barring injury, they are ahead of that level.
I'll make a prediction before the first game in September.
I find it hard to envision the season before training camp starts but I do have a few general observations. I think the commitment to the running game is real and they have new pieces to make it work. I want to see; the replacement for Jennings grow into that role, how the O-line protects Rogers and the ability to convert 3rd and 2 or less. In every game the Packers lost in 2012 the ability to convert on short 3rd downs killed them.
From the defensive side of the ball stopping the run with the front 3 is very very important. In 2009 when Jolly was on the team and in 2010 they managed to play the run second to the pass and still squelch it. Nobody knows which Jolly will show up on 25 July and the June version had a pony keg tied to his belt but in the drills I saw - Jolly still has the burst and that will help because unlike a lot of big men Jolly likes to hit and he likes football, he might be a key contributor for 12 snaps a game or that pony keg might mean he is done but if Jolly makes the team and Datone Jones is the player I think he can be this is an 11-12 win team and probably at least NFC championship game.
I'm going to go on record right now and say they're going to embarrass the 49ers in week 1. Beyond that, it's all going to depend on the injuries. If they have good luck with them this year, they're going to have a very good team with a great chance at a title. I think they have the horses on defense to get it done, it's just a question of whether or not they're finally going to have some luck keeping them on the field.

....we have a long way to go personnel- wise & scheme-wise to catch the 49ers. The only advantage we may have is that they have already suffered more injury this season (Crabtree) than they did the entire last season.
13-3 and hoisting the Lombardi Trophy!
Only real challenge becomes the 9'ers. That game uncertain, but let's take the Pack. AFC not as strong. Probably the dreaded donkeys. I'll believe the Texans when I see it.
Pack the pick and pick the Pack!

Yes, a long way.
Football
need 11 or 12 more impact players
I will still dislike the Bears.
Long way. Personnel & scheme.
Wonder how far Browns & Bills have to go
Unless some of the young guys really become impact players, I see a 10-6 season at best. Hopefully TT will now adress specific needs when urgent.

... everything is relative. As far as us the 49ers, the only two areas where we had better personnel last season was at WR & QB...every other position they were better. after our opening loss we all rationalized that Harbaugh coached the game like it was the SB & put a lot more emphasis on it than MM did. However when we got to the playoff game their coaching staff was still way ahead of ours, especially our D staff. I really like what TT & MM have done in the off season, realizing that we have to get better in the run game & on defense...which IMHO is a direct reaction to "what do we have to do to beat the 49ers". We can only hope that we have improved & the 49ers have some bad luck with injuries etc. because the last time we saw both teams the 49ers were moderately better.
the Niners were not moderately better in the playoff game last yr, they delivered a ass whipping.

True, but so much of the whipping was reduced to one thing - QB rushing effectiveness.
Or, a muffed punt on our 9 yard line when we had the lead at 14-7 at that point. Had Ross not given them the ball deep in our territory we could have scored again and had a bigger lead. But as it turned out that muff allowed them to tie it up and then take momentum.
With our really tough schedule I think we are looking at a 10-6 season and winning our Division. After that hope we get on a nice roll all the way to another Lombardi.
The interesting thing about that article is this sentence....
The Packers have a subpar run defense, and one rookie D-lineman isn’t going to make them drastically better right away.
Nick Perry, possibly Jolly, Datone Jones, Mike Neal, Worthy coming in after PUP? Not to mention Raji & Pickett. Uh huh....1 rookie lineman. Got it.
The Packers lost by 2 TD's & had 3 turnovers. While the Niners were better (& deserved to win) & I would agree their personnel LAST YEAR is better, I have a hard time believing their coaching staff was WAY ahead of MM & Crew. 55-0 is way ahead. Losing by 2 TD's & having 3 turnovers, is not way ahead. Even in the loss, the Packers showed you can pass on the Niners. They also lost a couple Defensive players this year
The Niners are a good football team that lost the Super Bowl. They're not unbeatable & not light years ahead of Green Bay as you are making them out to be.

I expect Peyton Manning to have another epic fail in the playoffs. (He's got a sub-.500 playoff record.)
I really hate this defeatist attitude I see amongst some Packers fans in regard to the 49ers. I don't think I've ever seen Bears fans take on this attitude in regard to the Packers, even though they have 100 times more of a reason to do so.
I'll piss in your cornflakes for a fee. Some may be interested in the **** in your pillowcase special I have going on.
" I have a hard time believing their coaching staff wasWAY ahead of MM & Crew"
...well when your defense gives up over 500 yards of offense & players report that you barely prepared for the option read, I'd say that they were "way ahead" of us in that game.
Defense sucked for sure in that game & while the def. coaches may be partly to blame, the under-manned players are mostly to blame. But you lumped the entire coaching staff as 1 entity as being way behind the Niners.
I disagree
FYI....this coaching staff is Super Bowl champions. Something the Almighty Jim Harbaugh's coaching staff has yet to achieve. WAY ahead? Hardly.
Way ahead when isolating it to the playoff loss?
Oh, yeah. As far ahead as is possible, within reason.
How many yards did Kaepernick rush for?
It was a coaching debacle.
A sample makes a whole.
What's the difference between 2009 and 2010? Couple players, some tweaks.
And here I thought it was a whole new front seven and new coaching staff. Perspective, it's a good thing.

I do think he is over-rated for the reason you give. Even his performance against the Bears in his SB win was nothing superlative. Just lucky he played the Bears!
we're going 0-16.
this thread is over.
According to the Niner fans, without Rodgers this is a 3-win team! They have our number & own us now. We're soft.
It's funny what 2 wins in a row will do to a fan base.

Henry is Najeh Davenport?
I think the Bears are due for collapse. Something about the culture of that team needs an overhaul, and I don't think one season is enough to do it. The Vikings I see as a WC team, and Detroit I think bounces back and is a playoff team.
But 2010 and 2013 have parallels that are too obvious to ignore...
Old bones in the cold....

8-8....good enough to miss the playoffs, but not good enough to fire MM and TT, therefore sending someone into a 9 month limbo of hatred and pain that is tantamount to repeated scrotal perforation at the hands of an ice pick or knitting needle.
Awesome.
IMO the niners were considerably better. They kicked our ass physically twice last year. Did we not start the playoff game with a pick six (Shields) and still got pounded in the end? I'm hope ful the changes we have made and the film study will produce different results this year. That being said, the Pack will be underdogs against the Niners at home as they should be. Gotta beat the best to be the best and the Niners were the best the NFC had to offer last year.
