New backup quarterback Seneca Wallace was at practice. Doesn't meet usual height requirement

Best shot I could get of new backup QB Seneca Wallace.

coach Mike McCarthy to address reporters shortly. Here's where you can see a summary of his comments.

I have not seen Wallace play recently, so I can only go by his record.   I think he was 3-5 for the Hasselbeck Seahawks in 2008 and 1-7 for the hapless Browns.  He has been out of football for a year.  Different teams, different circumstances, different coaches.

As of right now, I don't see anything that says he will move the team any better than Vince Young.  So, the answer is no.

Who the h*ll IS our number 2 QB??  I'm terribly nervous if Aaron gets hurt for any length of time......I think San Fran could be the team that could knock him out, the stinking first game of the season.

Rodgers could use a senior QB to work with

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but Mark Chmura said on his radio show yesterday that Hasselbeck wanted to come to GB and TT had interest in bringing him in, but only at vet minimum salary. Apparently Hasselbeck was insulted by such a low offer, and told TT to forget it.

FWIW, I'd love to see Hass back in GB as Rodgers' backup, but what does he expect salary wise at this stage in his career? The guy's older than dirt.

Lotsa angst about a position that hopefully never plays a meaningful down and no NFL team really has the luxury to have a stud at anyway.

If backup QB is the worst of our problems then I feel great about the team. I happen to be much chore concerned with LBs and OL.

One guy has proven that he can run a West Coast offense. One hasn't.

One guy has a career 81 QB rating. The other has a 74.

One guy throws 1.7 TD's per INT for his career. The other throws 0.9.

But yeah, aside from that they are the same guy.

Nah...too classy for Survivor , I'm sure.

Her stage name, Whoopi, was taken from a whoopee cushion; she has stated that "If you get a little gassy, you've got to let it go. So people used to say to me, 'You're like a whoopee cushion.' And that's where the name came from."[7][8] She adopted the traditionally German/Jewish surname Goldberg as a stage name because her mother felt that Johnson was not "Jewish enough" to make her a star

Both were so effective, they were out of football last year.

I agree with you that Seneca Wallace had NFL skills when he came into the league although that didn't translate into a winning record.  Where we differ is this that now he is on his third team in 3 weeks.  More to my point, we have no data this year that says he can be effective.

I was thinking about how the Packers snatched both Tolzien and Wallace from the 9ers at cutdown time. It may have been a really shrewd set of moves

very interesting timelines and thank goodness Tolzien is a Packer fan

But it seems like there was a method to their madness in grabbing the 9ers QBs while making it very difficult for the 9ers to grab ours.

TT dumps Harrell on the 25th and he goes to the Jets who have higher claiming rights than the 9ers and are in dire need-  so he is unavailable to Hissy Fit. Buffalo was in a tight spot too and also had higher claiming rights. (Packers 1 SF 0)

Then he dumps Young, who knows nothing and can't help ( Packers 2  SF 0 )

That leaves Coleman, who is mysteriously still on the roster on Sunday & Monday, ...unavailable for Hissy Fit

Then he finally dumps Coleman on Tuesday after the 9ers have committed to McCoy and BJ Daniels and filled out their practice squad ( Packers 3  SF 0)

Hissy Fit could still grab Coleman, but now its Weds/Thursday  before he gets to town to help out and they'd have to dump one of the players they just grabbed

Then the Packers grab Tolzien who knows lots of interesting things about the 9ers and Wallace who can be the vet back up.  GB has room on the 53 for Wallace  after clearing Coleman

( Packers 5...  SF 0 in the battle of backups)

Not sure if any of it went down this way, but I thought it was curious timing and I couldn't figure out why they kept Coleman on the 53.

I knew it wasn't because of his QB talents.

I'd like to think they were sticking it to Little Jimmy

The Steely Eyed Assassin at his finest

Sartori, I read your post and immediately thought of what TT said in his presser on Sunday.  He said around the 1 minute mark that the presser should really be on Tuesday.  If you are wrong (and I'm not saying you are) you are not far from the mark.

(Sorry, don't know how to post a link yet).

With his comment about having the presser on Tuesday, it's almost as if Thompson knows what players other teams are going to cut that he'd be interested in, and he knows his 53 may not be set on Sunday.

Indeed, but Wallace's value is on the field and 9ers wanted to keep him

But he and Hissy Fit had some "miscommunications"

And that's why they brought in John Skelton yesterday for a tryout- they aren't feeling good about Colt or BJ, especially with everybody taking shots at Kap all season long

Packers snookered them out of two QBs, one for info, one to play the back-up role

The Pack snookered the Niners by picking up their scraps?

Note I'm liking the moves. They are much better at backup QB now then they have been since Flynn walked (maybe better the way that is turning out).

Good opportunity here to apologize to chickenboy.  He has a lot of decent takes, but, for whatever reason, there are quite a few posters that jump on him, no matter if he's right or not.  I think it is time to give some credit where credit is due.
