Assuming Cobb and or/Jones don't have season ending injuries (or an 8 week "injury return") we will need to make roster spots available to replace them until they return.   Who on defense are we going to cut to make room for roster replacements for them?

We don't have any room on offense with only 2 back up linemen healthy, going to need all TE's we have.  the only roster position on offense to cut from would be RB-- I assume they wouldn't cut Starks, although maybe put Hill back on practice squad and hope the remaining 3 backs stay healthy until Starks is back?

No way we sign Driver.  Couldn't get open last year, buried on the bench but not cut because he was a fan favorite.

This kinds of reminds me of the 96 season, when we lostRobert Brooks early in the season, then lost Freeman to the broken arm, and were left with Beebee, Derrick Mayes and Desmond Howard.  All the talk afterwards was to resign Anthony Morgan, and we ended up signing Andre Rison, who was really mostly a decoy.  Ran the offense through Keith Jackson, Chamura and the running backs

We have one good TE, a good RB.  We will have to see the adjustment MM makes to playcalling.

TT won't make any trades during the season.  He never has, so hard to believe he'll start now.  And if he does, I'd rather it be Jarius Byrd than Josh Gordon.

It'd be really nice if Jones was back this week (seems like he could be based on initial reactions) but seems like Cobb is out for at least a few weeks.  I think he'll start with the practice squad, use Finley as a WR, then move Quarless into the starting lineup at TE.  He'll also need to lean more on the running game, maybe moving to more like a 50/50 ratio.  They can deal with these injuries as long as Nelson, Boykin and Finley stay healthy and the running game is still producing 150 yards a game.

They ran 37 pass plays counting sacks of course and 30 RTFB's in a tight game on the road.  That same ratio last week was 35/33.  MM is already shifting the model to lean on the running game.  IMHO he just needs to develop the knack for when to use the run vs. the pass a little better.  Basically since he's been here, that approach was pass first and run second, and barely even consider running the ball when you really need 3 yards. If he does that and it appears already that he's moving in that direction, AR just becomes that much more deadly.  See that bomb to Jordy today.  Perfect example.

They may put some flotsam at WR this week just so they can be sure they have 2 to finish the game, but don't expect any big moves.

Interesting, slowmo.

Normally, I wouldn't expect any 'big' roster moves, but we're just too thin at WR. We only had the 4 on active roster, and only 1 (Myles White) on the PS. No idea if he will be promoted, but I'd still look for activity on the PS. My bet is they sign another UFDA to it, no matter what happens with White. They need bodies just for practice, if nothing else.

We do have plenty of TEs, and that will help, but I can't imagine lining Finley up at WR or in the slot and have opposing defenses take it seriously. He just doesn't have the speed anymore. It may be a 'novelty' for a play or two, but not for 4 weeks or longer.

The running game will be our biggest asset in the meantime. It should also be the perfect time to develop some screen plays for the RBs and TE's out of the backfield.

Anyone know what Boyd Dowler is up to?  What about Carrol Dale?  DD is NOT joining the Packers as a player.  He old, slow, and just not an NFL-caliber player any more.

TT should know more about the state of the WR position later today, and that will obviously dictate what the Packers do at the position.  If either JJ or RC (or both) are out for any extended period of time, I think TT will make a roster move.

I've seen a few analysts suggest the idea that Hakeem Nicks should be traded.  Giants season is over and Nicks is in the last year of his contract (and is not expected to be resigned by the Giants).  Obviously depends on what it takes, but I'd throw a 5th round pick to rent Nicks for 11 games.  TT can easily get that back with a few draft day trades next April.

WTH, TT?

Seriously, how in the world....

Never mind.

I do think it's interesting there are recent former Packer players available (Swain, West, and Gurley), yet no interest at all apparently.

I guess tearful reunions happen more in our own minds than they do in the minds at 1265.

BTW, what is the significance of the bolded names, PLVA?

No Kenny Britt.  As some others have mentioned, he's been sort of a turd.  Even worse, he has #1 WR talent but it rarely shows up.  I'm sure those that play fantasy football can attest to that.

As for Nicks, it's sort of strange how he's taken a back seat to Ruben Randle and Victor Cruz.   For a couple of years he was their #1 guy but it's Manning's main option anymore.   I know he's had some injury issues, but in reality what the Packers need is a slot/route guy to replace Cobb.   I'm not totally sure that's Hakeem Nicks.

The Green Bay Packers are trying out former Cleveland Browns linebacker Justin Staples and former University of Maryland linebacker Demetrius Hartsfield today, according to league sources.

The Packers are dealing with injuries at linebacker, including Brad Jones (hamstring), Clay Matthews (broken thumb) and Nick Perry (broken foot).

Hartsfield is a former All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection for the Terrapins.

Hartsfield has fully recovered from a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered last November.

Staples is a 6-foot-4, 245-pounder from Illinois.
