Nice article on Damarious Randall here.

Playing 61 snaps against the Bears in Week 1 could have led to possible mix-ups in coverage, but Randall said he hasn't been charged with an "MA" (missed assignment) and hasn't had problems adjusting to the cornerback position.

"I mean that just comes with a lot of film and working with the older guys, Sam and Casey," Randall said. "(It's them) being a real big help to me, just helping me slow the game down. If I can slow the game down, we are all athletes so it just kind of gives me a chance to make a lot of plays."

Whitt said what has made the transition smoother for Randall from college to the pros and cornerback to safety is his football IQ. There aren't many times when Whitt has to worry about whether Randall understands what the defense is trying to get done.

"He's a football junkie," Whitt said. "That's one thing I didn't know as much, that he knew that much about football. He's a gym rat. I talk about things that happen in the '90s, football and different guys, and he's probably the only one in the room that really knows about it. He's a football guy and that's exciting."

I'm hoping the kid gets a pick 6 Monday night against KC. Plays like that are coming our way with Randall, and I can't wait to see it.

"Honestly, I thought I would get tested a little bit more being a rookie out here, but from just looking up at film I see the quarterbacks kind of peeking over there but most of the time they just kind of see the guy covered and they go elsewhere," Randall said.

I'll be curious to see what eventually leads to that change.  Will Hayward need to have a bad game to justify the change or will Randall simply make enough plays during his limited opportunities that the coaches can no longer hold him back?

I think Randall will eventually work his way into more playing time.  It's just not McCarthy's MO to give rookies significant play time early in their rookie years.  Off the top of my head, only Raji and CMIII started their first game of their careers.  Yes, Linsley did too, but that was due to injury.  Even Clinton-Dix, who was practically handed the starting safety job on draft day, took 4-5 games before he was officially the starter.

But he looks good, really good.  It's going to be hard to keep him off the field much longer.  He actually leads the team in pass defended with 3, which is incredible with how few plays he's been out there.  Props to TT for seeing this guys CB talent b/c everything I've read had him as a safety prospect.

Looking like Randall and Rollins were good picks at this point. That's a good thing cause, unfortunately, Hyde and even Hayward have bulls eyes on their backs. Damn is Hyde slow.

Seems like more of Teds MO. Casey is at the end of his contract, wouldn't be surprised if they let him walk.

Hyde is slow, but he's a football player.

Love me some Randall. Not worried about Heyward until he has a bad game.  Sone of You guys over think $hit.  Just let them play.

All I know is Hyde was making big plays, INTs in TC practices. That guy looked ready, and I think he will be fine. Hayward too. Just that he might be better covering the slot. They will keep testing Randall and won't make a change till they are confident.

Haywood is a superstar, when he is a free agent next year he should get 20 million a year from some one. Then the Packers will have to do with the Defensive Backs they have and a 3rd round pick next year.

In my opinion, the threat is if Jamaal gets his thing going...the TE Kelce will destroy you. He is the real deal. Antelope legs on a Gronk.

And don't underestimate Maclin being able to take the top off, but I agree he's not really much else.

This KC team is plenty dangerous this week. They were really embarrassed in their last game. I think it makes them especially dangerous this week on Monday night.

Knocking off the Pack at Lambeau on National TV is a hell of a motivator. We better not play soft in this one.

Wagering the Chiefs to cover this one at +7  is a good bet. Hope they don't win outright.

yup, and Capers commented about that in the article too.

Give the young guys a chance to ease into the NFL over several games. Most of them have some shadow of doubt about making the leap from NCAA to NFL. You don't want to blow their confidence early on.

"Stacking successes" is the way MM and his coaches bring new guys along.

I've always thought Heyward excelled in the slot or in zone where he makes plays off instinct.  I don't care if they are rooks, I would be starting Rollins, Randall or even Gunter on the outside over him but he is our best Nickle / Slot guy.

I don't have a high opinion of Hyde.  Its nice to have versatile guys like him on the roster to patch leaks, but he shouldn't be getting playing time unless one of the full timers are hurt.

Seattle's WR's? Yes...Baldwin is ok.

Jeffery is very good, but he was playing on one leg in week 1.

I see Randall eventually becoming their starter opposite Shields.   His skill set in man coverage (speed and size) works better than Hayward and he's less likely to make mistakes as a result.

Hayward has never really excelled as a boundary corner and his strength is playing closer to the LOS where he can take more risks and jump routes.

Hyde is a good all around player but needs to play off receivers and that's why I think he's a better safety than corner.

Personally, I think Clinton-Dix might be a better press corner than a free safety given his struggles playing the run.

Don't just inactivate him, cut him.

@ByRyanWood: Of CBs targetted at least 15 times, #Packers rookie Damarious Randall's 4 allowed catches are fewest in NFL. QBs have 77.4 rating.

Yeah, I don't know what the he11 people see sometimes.  He had a few rough plays last night but one was a blown coverage, one was just a freak accident running into Peppers and he had a PI called.  All correctable rather than showing lack of ability.  He likes to tackle too!  Kid will have more growing pains this year but he has shown more than enough that he is legit.

Yeah I saw people mention in the "It sucked" portion & referred to Randall. I didn't get that nor see that from the rookie last night.

Damarious Randall is an unbelievable football player & CB. I'm certain he'll have a few more growing pains along the way but if we saw the "worst" of Randall last night.....something tells me we'll be A-OK at the CB position for years.

P.S. most draftniks had the Eagles taking Randall especially as you can see this season they desperately need some DB's.

Thank GOD Chip Kelly is a moron & drafted Agholor instead.

He got worked on that big Maclin reception but that's a good veteran receive with a vet QB making a play. Rookies will have their mistakes but he's held his own majority of the time and I look forward to his continued growth as the season progresses

I'm fully expecting some mistakes along the way from our young secondary, but that ought to right itself by week 8 or so. These guys are just getting their legs in a pretty complicated D, against top flight talent. Randall is going to be a very solid player for us by year's end.

Alshon Jeffrey one one leg is a mediocre receiver. And when GB played them he was running on one leg.

The effectiveness of DB is directly proportional to the pass rush generated.

Vs KC, Packers pass rush was as good as I've seen it under Compers.

If they can repeat that week in, week out, our DB will do very well.
