Witty banter!
May I join in?
No!
Draft a left tackle this year.
McShart has us taking:
Menelik Watson
COLLEGE: Florida State
AGE: 24
HT: 6-5⅛
WT: 317
POS: OT
Analysis: This might seem a little high for a player with an early-second-round grade, but Watson could make sense for various reasons. The Packers might not be totally sold on Marshall Newhouse as their left tackle, and there is concern about RT Derek Sherrod coming off a broken leg suffered late in 2012. Watson is inexperienced, but he comes from a similar zone-blocking scheme and has impressive natural movement skills. Offensive tackles are always at a premium, and at this point there is not a running back, safety or wide receiver worth reaching for to fill a need. The Packers can't win unless they improve their ability to protect Aaron Rodgers, and Watson could help in that regard.

Thought they mostly scrapped the ZBS?
Not completely, they just started blending in more Power O. With all the shuffles on the OL and RB, they were a little bit handcuffed in making too many changes in 2012.
one would hope especially now that you can't block below the waist (that is one of the new rules, right?)
It's McShart...I take his analysis with a lot of salt.
To me, a versatile interior OL is probably more of a need sooner than leader. If they feel Lacy can be a starting RB, I would rather see that pick at 26...however, that said, I am not a huge fan of that pick.
To me, BPA, but if I had a preference, I would hope it would be an ILB, S, interior OL who can play OG or OC in a pinch, or possible a DE. I just think depending on CJ Wilson and hitching our hopes to Jolly Time are a disaster. Wilson is a decent backup. We could use an upgrade there, and with Worthy hurt for the season, and Neal being so inconsistent, a DE pick is justified IMO.

BPA might be OLB. There seem to be 3 or 4 that are getting a lot of 1st round consideration from the mockers- FWIW.
That's Barrett Jones I'd think.
**edit**
All of these OLB have been mentioned in multiple 1st round mocks I've seen.
Dion Jordan, Oregon
Bjoern Werner, Florida State
Alec Ogletree, Georgia
Ziggy Ansah, BYU
Barkevious Mingo, LSU
Jarvis Jones, Georgia

The key to Barrett Jones’ lengthy career at Alabama has been versatility. Alabama head coach Nick Saban has compared the four year starter to NFL great Bruce Matthews, who famously played all five offensive line positions in the NFL.

I like me some Barrett Jones because of what you mentioned. Although if talking heads are correct, he may be available in R2.
OK, perhaps we do take OLB, and maybe move Perry to DE? Although he'd have to bulk up quite a bit, maybe they feel he's more comfortable there?
Jarvis Jones and Dion Jordan, and I think Mingo will be gone by 26. Ogletree is an ILB and falling fast, so he may be there for us.
I'm thinking Datone Jones could be the pick. Pickett, Wilson, and Neal all will be UFA after this season. Time to re-load.
Like the idea of a DL in round one and an interior OL in round 2
From Bob McGinn's draft outlook section:
Datone Jones
DE, UCLA: 6-4, 283. Made himself a ton of money rushing the passer in one-on-ones at the Senior Bowl. "More of a second-round guy," one scout said. "I don't know if he can be a five-technique." Fifth-year senior who sat out 2010 with a broken foot. Had 13½ sacks in 51 games (43 starts).

I don't think any of those OLBs make it to Green Bay's pick though.
* Ogletree played inside in GA's 3-4 but many project him outside in a 4-3. He'll also likely enter the league already with a strike in the substance abuse program for a couple of DWIs.

Love Datone Jones...loved him coming out of Compton HS. Tough kid who had the misfortune of playing for that Godawful Rick Neuheisel for most of his career, and flourished under Jim Mora.
Thing I love about him most is his toughness. He had one sort of freak injury in 2010...broke his foot in fall camp, but other than that he was rock solid.
Ted needs to draft some legitimate 3-4 ends. Too many of GB's ends are really 4-3 ends and 4-3 tackles. That's also how I see Datone Jones.

from kffl
"University of Alabama C Barrett Jones (foot) said he is ahead of schedule in his rehab from a Lisfranc injury he suffered in the Southeastern Conference championship game. He said he believes he will be ready to participate in offseason workouts and minicamp in May and June."

3-4 or 4-3?
Jones looks like a 4-3 end to me.
Why draft 3's or 4's? Look for at least an 8 better yet 9's or 10's.

Would you rather have Disone or Datone?
[ducking]
I'd love to see them get Jones but I'm unsure if he'll be there. Colts need a 5-tech badly as well.
if a couple QB's go early, somebody will fall to them.

Listed at 284 so he probably could add some beef. "Length" seems to be the buzzword on the dline but in general I agree with the assessment. If Perry didn't have the athleticism he has he would be a ill fit for 3-4. I'll be interested to see what kind of weight/shape he comes into camp this year.
Henry, what do you mean about Perry? I've lost track of the discussions regarding how suited his body type is for DE vs. OLB, and how that relates to what you're saying. You think he needs to be lighter, or what? Sorry, just kind of missing your point. I'm still trying to get a handle on where he's the best fit. I like the guy, and think he's got a good future, but I get a little lost when the discussion turns to his ideal position.
Before the draft he was all about being drafted as a 4-3 DE and bulked up appropriately. I believe I read a snippet from Kevin Greene getting him back for this upcoming season would not only improve his learning 3-4 OLB more fully but also adjusting his body for it.
He has the speed and strength. My guess is he's probably working on flexibility and weight for coverage purposes.
