Probably why he went around the entire stadium at the end of the last preseason game and gave all the fans a high five and took photos with them. He knew the end was near.

So how does it work when a veteran player goes on the IR and does not make the initial 53? Does he still get paid?
I wonder if Dillon has spinal stenosis, the narrow/narrowing of the spinal canal? That could be why the second stinger in such a short time, all the opinions, the farewell circuit, and then the season-ending IR. I haven't read anything about it, but it seems likely.
If his career is over, I can see him getting a job with the organization as some sort of community ambassador. He'd be good at it.
That's possible. Like Satori said they are very conservative with these types of Injuries. Remember Sterling Sharpe & Nick Collins. Same kinda thing. We'll find out in the future. Better he can walk away from the game than be carried out or wheeled away.

They will most likely work out an injury settlement and then release him and he'd be a free agent able to sign with another team. In many ways putting him on IR is doing him a solid. They could have just cut him and he'd be out of all his salary.
That is essentially what ended Paul Hornung's career. He had multiple stingers over that last few seasons too.

And Tim Lewis.
Jermichael Finley?
Wasn't it Willie Gault? I remember the hit and the replays watching that game.
