During Hafley's intro presser he talked a little about matching personnel
He said if the offense goes heavy, then "we get heavy too" and if they go with faster, "we have to get our faster defenders out there "

That's the value of AJ Dillon - he influences the DC calls - giving MLF a heavy defense to throw against - and that's a wee bit easier than throwing against a lighter, faster nickle/dime package.

AJ Dillon's actual yards gained aren't as critical, its what his presence means in the chess game on Sundays.

There's a reason why GB plays so much 12, 13 and 21 personnel. They want to force the DC to use his heavy / base packages and Dillon & Deguara
(and now Kraft & Musgrave) are a part of that key strategery.

Using the defenses' rules against them.

Here's a screen shot of Packers drives vs Spags KC defense. There were no 3 and outs, the shortest drive was 7 plays and (3) of the drives were 11, 11, 13 plays.
That's spectacular

Part of the reason for these sustained drives was MLF using Dillon to force Spags out of his preferred light defenses. Spagnola plays dime at 4X the rate of the rest of the league. But not on this night. MLF forced his hand and it worked.

Love notched a 118 passer rating vs KC defense in part because he wasn't facing the KC dime defense as much as other opponents.
( KC opponents average an 83 passer rating)

Patrick Taylor was the other RB that night and you can see how KC aligns their D when he is on the field vs how they do it when AJ Dillon is on the field.

I think Gute will be looking at power backs in the draft / trade world - might be some chatter at the combine.
