Whoops meant Ezekiel Elliott

This just happens to coincide with the decline of the OL performance, and is every bit the issue as anything.
He ainโt breaking tackles and he ainโt a dancing bear. I donโt know where to find the stat but Iโd bet my bottom dollar his yards after contact and expected yards per carry are way down too.
Dillon just doesn't have the knack for "running to daylight" like Jones does. If they each had 20 carries which were equally blocked, Jones would have 100 yards while Dillon would gain 60.
Aaron Jones YPC.
2023 = 4.3
2022 = 5.3
2021 = 4.7
2020 = 5.5
Same rate as Pollard, which some pundits say should go to GB tom complement Jones.
Maybe instead of Dillon being better than we thought ....perhaps our o-line is better than we thought?
Dillon is a JAG. Great dudeโฆ easily replaceable.
As long as the replacement has power and thighs like a hippo. ๐

Super likeable guy, but I have to imagine we could replace his production without to much work.
Jones is the bigger question for me. Also super likeable guy, but when he is healthy he really move the needle for this team. When he is healthy.

Didn't quite turn into the team's version of Derrick Henry as envisioned. Not one of Gutey's better selections.
Personally, I hope Dillon returns on a team friendly deal for a back-up running back.
During Hafley's intro presser he talked a little about matching personnel
He said if the offense goes heavy, then "we get heavy too" and if they go with faster, "we have to get our faster defenders out there "
That's the value of AJ Dillon - he influences the DC calls - giving MLF a heavy defense to throw against - and that's a wee bit easier than throwing against a lighter, faster nickle/dime package.
AJ Dillon's actual yards gained aren't as critical, its what his presence means in the chess game on Sundays.
There's a reason why GB plays so much 12, 13 and 21 personnel. They want to force the DC to use his heavy / base packages and Dillon & Deguara
(and now Kraft & Musgrave) are a part of that key strategery.
Using the defenses' rules against them.
Here's a screen shot of Packers drives vs Spags KC defense. There were no 3 and outs, the shortest drive was 7 plays and (3) of the drives were 11, 11, 13 plays.
That's spectacular
Part of the reason for these sustained drives was MLF using Dillon to force Spags out of his preferred light defenses. Spagnola plays dime at 4X the rate of the rest of the league. But not on this night. MLF forced his hand and it worked.
Love notched a 118 passer rating vs KC defense in part because he wasn't facing the KC dime defense as much as other opponents.
( KC opponents average an 83 passer rating)
Patrick Taylor was the other RB that night and you can see how KC aligns their D when he is on the field vs how they do it when AJ Dillon is on the field.
I think Gute will be looking at power backs in the draft / trade world - might be some chatter at the combine.
Where's Christian Okoye when you need him??
The other part of the game that would have to be replaced if Dillon leaves is his ability to catch the ball. While he's built to be a pounder, he's pretty agile out on the edge after the catch. Some of his best plays have been catches out of the backfield.
If MLF's plan for the offense is to increase snaps for a FB or the FB/TE hybrid, Dillon would be good, perhaps even excellent, in that role.
He is indeed good at catching/YAC, has the power to be a blocker, and can remain a threat to rush.
Experience is hard to overcome, as well. Especially for a rookie.
Too significant a drop-off from Jones to Dillon and the team needs to upgrade.
But if Jones is out for a couple of game again I'd trust A J more than some rookie. Especially on 3rd down picking up blitzers.
Fine with AJ as the #3 option, but the team needs a more dynamic player at #2.
His yards per attempt was not good. But he did get 613 yards this season. And that was behind a so-so line. He is great in pass pro. And he is not old. I like the guy. I agree with others who would keep him only for on a cap friendly deal.

Will we find a more dynamic player, in this draft? Whom would you think would be an alternative to AJ? Marshawn Lloyd? Trey Benson? Braelon Allen? Just wondering who we'd go for here, in regards to replacing AJ Dillon?
Braille Allen would be a logical replacement
Curious what the thoughts are inside 1265 on Emanuel "Webster" Wilson.
@Iowacheese posted:Braille Allen would be a logical replacement
Braille Allen has a feel for the game.
He's gone dotty.
Not anymore YA....Cinci signed Moss after they traded Mixon to the Texans.
Per Tom Pellissero:
Free-agent RB AJ Dillon is expected to re-sign with the #Packers pending a physical, per sources.
Maybe Jacobs wanted him to come back to the Pack. If AR can demand certain players so can Jacobs.
Knowing the offense helps his cause.
Terms?
Update:
The Packers are signing RB AJ
Dillon to a 1-year deal, worth up to $1.35M, per league source.
Wow!
Pretty much a vet minimum deal with incentives. I thought he would be worth much more.
Guessing there was next to no market for him. Packers are signing him as insurance in the event they canโt get the type of RB they want in the draft or Emmanuel Wilson doesnโt pan out.
Theres also the distinct possibility he never sees the 53 by the time September rolls around.
