Rodgers go-to's:

Nelson

Cobb

Boykin

Lacy (screens/shovels)

Dick Rodgers

Bostick

Adams/Janis are distant 6th/7th options IMO. Rodgers said on more then one occasion in TC that attention to detail/trust are vital in his offense. And he doesn't have that yet with either of these rookies. Not saying they won't be on the field at all, but AR will look to guys he trusts will run the right routes, not quit on one, and move the chains. He has a lot of options before getting to his rookie wide outs.

Solid points. However, you just know....someday....one Sunday....perhaps against the Vikings...Janis "Ms. Jackson if you're nasty" is going to run an excellent route, double-move, down the sideline. And Rodgers is going to drop it in his breadbasket for 6. G-A-M-E   O-V-E-R!!

Rookie WR's Davante Adams and Jeff Janis in waiting for Packers

At some point, maybe Janis gets the green light as a returner. He returned one kick 62 yards and averaged 8.8 yards on four punt returns in the exhibition games.

“There’s only so much he can do at practice,” special teams coach Shawn Slocum said. “I thought he demonstrated pretty good ability during the preseason games. I feel good about Jeff.” -jsonline

Sounds to me like Janis is on a crash course to contribute on offense asap.

Resurrecting this thread, because The Janis! is unleashed baby.

I'm still trying to understand why they haven't used him more throughout the season. Something must be up that we're unaware of. Perhaps Janis isn't applying himself enough in the coaches (or QB's) eyes.

FYI....that was Patrick Peterson he beat for the hail mary. I certainly hope MM took notice of that, because he needs to play in 2016.

Deion Sanders certainly did, "Who is this kid?!?!? We didn't know him but we KNOW HIM NOW!"

Janis will probably be buried on the depth chart next year and Abby might be gone. Nelson, Cobb, Montgomery, and Adams are the top 4. I don't think James Jones is back. He's too easy to eliminate from the offense with one guy (and not just with Patrick Peterson covering him).

The more interesting question would be would you rather have Randall Cobb at 10 million a year or Abbrederis at 500K. They probably can't play at the same time because they are both smallish slot receivers, but I think I'd take Abby at 5% of the cost. That won't happen because of salary cap issues and the signing bonus. Abby will probably end up playing for a team like NE next year.

Cobb was exposed for what he is - an undersized guy who's tough and a solid pro, but not a 10 million dollar difference maker.

Boris, if you read the college scouting reports at the beginning of this thread they all laud Janis!'s work ethic.

I really think it's a been a combination of his rawness as a WR compounded by mental errors owing to the demands of the Packers' offense (read and react in concert with 12) and Rodgers' frustrations with him.

MP2, I think they keep Abby and Janis along with the four you mention. 84 and 83 are cheap options with ST ability, and cushions against Jordy faltering, or Adams plateauing, and Cobb/Monty being what they are.

Didn't this kid have something like high 20's/30 on the Wonderlic? I don't think he's so dense he can't get on the field. But I am much more inclined to go with the reason is more so a QB who so loathes INT's, it takes injuries to his top 4 WR's to finally throw him the ball coupled with a stubborn HC who refused to believe Adams was sucking it up left and right.

I like Abby a lot. But the problem is he's made of glass. Give him 50-60 snaps a game, it's just a matter of time before his next concussion or pulled this or that.

At the very least, another year in the system and TC/PS, I really hope that MM will give Janis a real chance at WR. You can't teach speed or height. Body wise, he's exactly what you want at WR

They need to find a way to keep all of them. TT\MM fill the roster based on talent, not set numbers at each position. 6 is not too many at WR.  TC will sort it out.

Janis...kid broke out on a big stage in the crunchiest of crunch times.  His next step is to find consistency.  He was making circus catches all TC but seemed to lack consistency in being in the right place at the right time.  Arrow up.

I told yah Boss.  Janis must have peed in Aaron's Cheerios.

Disagree.

With a healthy Jordy, he's worth $10 million. Want to know why?

Because another team offered him $12 million & he turned it down.

Not to mention he is a locker room favorite with all the guys.

He had a rough year but he goes all out for this team. You can win Championships (plural) with players like Randall Cobb.

Anyway, this thread is about The Janis!

I think this completes the eerily accurate Beatles metaphor for this season.

Janis is Ringo...the lovable talented knucklehead that actually sings a little better than he has been given credit for.

That's the last piece to the puzzle... explaining this season in toto.

If Rodgers is determining who plays he sure screwed up starting Barclay at LT. I think its fair to say he never trusted Janis and there were some issues last night too. The "drawn in the dirt we ain't got nobody else" plays worked great. Not good for a steady diet. The Packers run a very complicated offense. Multiple players have said it. Isn't Janis from a smaller school? It will get better. Keeping 6 WR's is going to be hard to do. All 3 projected backups do play ST's though.

Janis earned another year based on his ST play alone. Now he really has to be considered as a part of the offense.

Abby is just a guy. Replace him with a draft pick with more upside.

Janis cost us four points in the first half. He ran the wrong route, according to where AR threw it. Remember that? Sure he had awesome moments but until he works as hard at his craft as Kordy does he's gonna be an eternal tease like JMike was

The Packers offense takes a WR couple of years to master.  In his first two seasons Nelson had 33/22 catches, with 2 TD's each season.  Cobb had 25 receptions his first year---but being a college QB helped him understand concepts.

In college, Janis was the best athlete who didn't really need to run routes but instead could use his speed to outrun defenders.

Hopefully year three for him (and Adams) will see the big jump in play  we have seen for other WR's in the Packers system.

Janis made two monster do or die catches last night obviously, but a better sign for the future might be the back shoulder throw he caught for a first down on another drive. He drove downfield 12 yards, turned around and made the catch. That was the first time I remember Rodgers even throwing that type of pass to him. The fact that the CB actually has to honor a go route makes that back shoulder much more effective (unlike James Jones where they can just sit on the back shoulder).

As someone said in another thread, if I'm Janis I find where Rodgers is spending his off-season, rent an apartment somewhere near it, and offer to catch passes from him any time AR12 wants to go do a workout.

I don't see Abby as just a guy. I do see him as a talented WR who is just injury prone.

Every year he will get stronger.  I see him having a shot next year to make some contribution.  My concern is with concussions.

Janis is going to be in the pro bowl next year as a special teamer.  He was absolutely fantastic as a gunner in the 2nd half of the season, came close to blocking a few punts and was an above avg kick returner.

On that alone, he makes the roster and is a steal for his draft slot.  It's obvious the kid is more talented athletically than most of the other players on the field.   It's up to the coaches to turn that into production at WR.   His failure to make an impact from that position is a failure of the coaching staff, not Janis.

I think I've made the case that Janis is Ringo...I'm not sure Arod is comfortable "coming out" with Janis as Yoko.

Janis showed the ability to win balls in traffic and to beat guys deep Saturday night.  Great point on the back shoulder throw.  I couldn't have been happier when they connected on that play.  I almost couldn't believe it.  His next step is becoming a 3-down consistent WR, being in the right place at the right time on EVERY play.  That seemed to be what held him back for the last 2 years and it will be the deciding factor for whether he becomes any more than a ST demon next year.

He's x4's version of TMZ. Yay

Some interesting stuff about Janis in Packerboi's link

I think Janis had 102 (catches of 41 & 61 yds) yards receiving on that final drive in regulation.

Is that some kind of a record?
