I agree with you 100%, this place has gone to hell. I long for the old days also, when Viking girl and friends were the "in" crowd, when if someone "spoke up" everyone starting talking about what they had for lunch. Remember that macdaddy? Well, I had a rat sandwich and moose balls for lunch. Do you find anything good to eat in your yooper dumpsters?

Man it is sad to see the state that this site is in. I have come to this site for several years to gather information from other fans. As you can see from my number of posts, I spend more time reading than writing.

This site used to be about the Packers and included open dialogue about the team. Over the past few years the site has been taken over by a few posters who have not grown out of there adolescent insecurities. Take a look at the list of topics and it is clear this site is dying-- this is happening the week before the season opener!

I anticipate criticism because I am not a big topic poster. The tone of the site has dissuaded me from posting much in the past year.

These days I take a look at the topics and move on within a few minutes.

Go Pack

I quite agree but don't think the site is near and end.
There are cliques to some extent, and some double standards that annoy me occassionaly. I also believe there is a silent majority who think similiarly as you do Mac. But overall, this is a pretty good place to hang. Somedays I have to do a lot of skimming over of a lot of nonsense. Other days, most days, there is more to enjoy than not I think. Depends on what kind of mood some of the dominant posters are in. Its easy enough to use the ignore option, or to surf away and come back later. Forums are communities just like life, you're going to get the full spectrum, both the good and the bad according to one's own tolerances.
I really did enjoy the "good 'ole days" of TimesFour, too. But, I like where the site is now, but for different reasons.

There's an interesting difference between two groups of Packers fans. There's a group of fans that simply love their Packers, win or lose. It's almost like a family thing. As long as the players try hard, that's all they can ask.

There's another group that is, to say the least, a bit more critical of all aspects of the Packers organization. But, that doesn't mean they love their favorite team any less.

The problem is, though, by nature, these two groups of fans have a hard time coexisting. We see that manifest itself on message boards everywhere.
This place used to be more about meatings....internet weddings and bus rides. It used to have moderators that thought "by golly" was a naughty word.

Real packer discussion was infrequent at best.

Unless you were a member of the St.Timesfour goldenpee inner circle a few years back you were tolerated but not welcome.

I like the fact the holier then though - passive aggressives get called on their BS.

Scoop did a great thing for all of us by starting the site and it has evolved over the years. I really appreciate what FRZoris has done with this place. Any chance a thread like this would even be allowed on some sites......yeah ummm no.

Forever rainBoris

I agree. This board used to be a lot friendlier. Differing opinions used to be discussed intelligently instead of being shouted down.

I'll give you an example: Two months ago it was impossible to argue that the team should have kept Brett without being called a Farve-firster or hero worshipper or Favre-zombie or worse (including some names that would have gotten the posters banned a few short years ago).

A more recent example:

Oh yeah, you're the ballwasher who gets slapped around on chat. Be honest, you're all upset because most of the board doesn't share your view of how everything in Packerland is in chaos.

I love faux highroaders.

Times change. People change. Hairstyles change. Boards change.

I guess I'm not complaining, per se, but I don't seem to enjoy this place as much as I used to.
"By golly" is a swear word...in some cultures...

I don't think the mods from that period of history should be given to hard of time...they were maintaining the atmosphere of the site at that time. Scoop had his idea of an "internet/friendly/Packer bar" and I think the mods were just trying to keep it that way. I liked that.

Boris has decided to serve a little stiffer stuff at his Packer bar. Its been moved to a slightly rougher neighborhood. I like that also.

I didn't see it as impossible, but moresoe impractical when the arguing point was because he is Brett Favre.

But then again we are people who are "Fans"...(short for Fanatic)

Is "fan" really short for "fanatic"??

Find out in japf's article

Good analogy here. It may simply be another example of how the internet emboldens people to behave/communicate differently than they do interpersonally.

That's an interesting point. I think it's the whole "sit behind the keyboard/monitor" is very impersonal, whereas face-to-face the conversation likely would be much more civil.

Which has gone on all along.

I don't see how the bickering that goes on now is significantly different one way or the other from how it's always been. Bullies of various names come and go and some mellow out but they're always here. As is the Ignore function.

cheesepatty's post was a homerun.

Because he picks fights.

It's not worth posting an opinion only to have a poker jammed up your ass over it and be forced into a pissing contest.

Here it comes: I'm a chicken**** ballwasher, blah blah blah, all hail the Chief.

They wouldn't take Henry seriously if they knew (s)he was really an 83 year old blue-hair grandma from Estero, FL.

When did [catts] move to Florida and become Henry? Confused

That's what the ignore feature is for, unless you're a moderator.

(Of course, you probably have me on ignore.... Wink)

So many little tender hearts here. Hey FRZoris, how about starting a Stuart Smalley forum?

You always tell it like it is. Honestly, I am always a little envious of those who get his sillier stuff. Ballwasher? Why doesn't anyone call me a ballwasher?

MsPac, you are a ballwasher. There, now that ought to ruin your weekend.
