9er fans are convinced they have nothing to worry about. I hope that same arrogance is permeating from the team as well. Would love nothing more then for the 9er's to not take the Packers seriously.

Meh. Every team (including GB) has message boards that run the gambit from useless to very insightful. The SF fans I know didn't want any part of a rematch with GB.

This will be my fourth Packer/SF game at the Stick and I'm 3-0 so far.
Yeah, it's starting to get a bit difficult to tell if you're at a 49ers game or a Raiders game these days based on what I've heard. Always good compliment of NorteΓ±os at the game to cheer for their boys in red at Candlestick.

Stated as a positive, I want the Pack to match the 49'ers physical and technically solid play.

@jasonjwilde
McCarthy on being the perceived underdog: "Our players like that. I think they respond better when they're disrespected."

@TyDunne
McCarthy says that DuJuan Harris has "something to do with" growing focus on run. But GB doesn't sit there & click for a run, click for pass

@jasonjwilde
McCarthy on Harris: "He's a pretty cool customer. I don't think a lot gets him excited. He's a steady personality, he's getting better."

@TyDunne
McCarthy on Harris checkdowns: Part of every progression, read in passing game. ...Part of Aaron recognizing coverages.

@TyDunne
McCarthy on Nelson PT: Kind of unfolded that way with groups we went went.
@TyDunne
McCarthy: "Donald Driver's a class act to say the least. A pro's pro. ...He has handled it very well. He's an excellent teammate."

@TyDunne
McCarthy: May have an opportunity this week. We'll see how it shakes down. ...Put emphasis on ST, that's why you make those decisions.

@jasonjwilde
McCarthy sounds as though he kept LB Terrell Manning active over Driver for special-teams purposes. Manning won ST game ball.
I do not want to see the Packer Oline and Defense pushed around like they were last time they played the 49ers. Need to exhibit the run discipline against Gore and Kapernick that they showed against AD last night. McCarthy needs to help Newsome and Barclay against this front, curb your 5 wide ego Mike.

Also don't want to see the 9ers borderline dirty safties take cheap shots on our ball carriers while they are being tackled. Hopefully they won't manhandle our WR off the LOS like last time either.

Study the Ram and Seahag tape, Mike. The blueprint is there for beating this team.
We are going to have a hard time playing as physical as the Niners, although I think EDS and Barclay will be better at that than Saturday and to an extent, Bulaga. I do not want to see the Niners teeing off on our Oline and whipping them. If that starts to happen, I want to see Rodgers dump the ball off to Harris like he did last night.

I really do not want to see Davis getting a lot of touches, nor do I want to see Kaepernick running around out there untouched.

Also, study the Giant film... The Giants rung up the 49ers.

Both teams will be studying the Giants then because they lit up the Pack too.

IMO, the biggest factor in the game will be if Justin Smith can not go or is still injured out there.

And maybe the kickers.
I really can't get a feel for this game. Both teams are very, very good.

I think playing them before will really help us, especially since we have some different personnel than Week 1.

I really have no idea how this one will play out, but I have a feeling it will be a classic.

All I know is we have something no other team in the NFL has, and that's Aaron Rodgers. Undeniably, IMHO, the best QB in the league. As long as he's there, we'll always have a chance.
Last week when Jennings was talking about warm weather vs cold weather games, he made the comment there's something to be said for the entire team being together, on the road, us vs them mentaility.

I think playing this game in SF is going to effect GB the way SF would have been effected coming to GB. And yeah, playoff road games in won't hurt either.

He will be just fine. Bank on it.

Simple equation here...Whiners will drop 7 into coverage and rush 4. If we can't run the ball against that, we will lose period. Giants did the same thing. Couple of big changes since then...EDS is now OC, Dujuan Harris is now RB. If we can run on their front 4, we will be able to pass because they will have to keep a couple LB at home.

If Smith doesn't play we will win. He is arguably the best against the run, and I believe Justin will be limited. He's a tough SOB however
Early look at next weekends games.

Green Bay Packers @ San Francisco 49ers; Jan. 12, 8 p.m. ET, Fox

1. This is the best matchup of the weekend. It's the first playoff game between two teams that we could see winning the Lombardi Trophy with absolutely no hesitation. It's power versus precision. It's two of the best coaching minds in the game.

2. The Packers haven't faced any of the read option teams during the regular season. We've been wondering all along if the 49ers will empty the playbook a lot more in the playoffs with Colin Kaepernick because they've mostly kept his running under wraps.

3. San Francisco's vaunted defense gave up a ton of points against Seattle and New England late in the season. Defensive end Justin Smith is expected back for this game, but the 49ers can't match Green Bay's weapons. This smells like a shootout, like the 49ers' Divisional Round game against the Saints last year.
I find it humorous that the Whiner fans are talking crap about the Packers, about how this is going to be an easy game. San Francisco has been our bitch since the salary cap went into effect in 1994.

Since the beginning of the 1995 season, Green Bay is 13-2 against San Francisco (including playoffs), and one of those wins should have been a Packer win, as Jerry Rice clearly fumbled, and Green Bay recovered. We'd have taken a knee, and moved on to the divisional playoff round.

Here's a yearly breakdown I put together. When some Niner fan runs their yap, point them to this:

2012
Lost to San Francisco @ home, 22-30 (week 1)

2011
Did not play

2010
Beat San Francisco @ home, 34-16 (week 13)

2009
Beat San Francisco @ home, 30-24 (week 11)

2008
Did not play

2007
Did not play

2006
Beat San Francisco @ Candlestick, 30-19 (week 14)

2005
Did not play

2004
Did not play

2003
Beat San Francisco @ home, 20-10 (week 12)

2002
Beat San Francisco @ Candlestick, 20-14 (week 15)

2001
Beat San Francisco @ home, 25-15 (wild card)

2000
Beat San Francisco @ home, 31-28 (week 7)

1999
Beat San Francisco @ Candlestick, 20-3 (week 12)

1998
Beat San Francisco @ home, 36-22 (week 9)
Lost to San Francisco @ Candlestick, 27-30 (wild card)

1997
Beat San Francisco @ Candlestick, 23-10 (NFC Championship)

1996
Beat San Francisco @ home, 23-20 (OT)(week 7)
Beat San Francisco @ home, 35-14 (divisional playoffs)

1995
Beat San Francisco @ Candlestick, 27-17 (divisional playoffs)
It's that '95-'97 stretch that really stuck in their craw. When Owens caught his first pass in '98, it really was their Super Bowl. All they cared about after that was that they won that game. And that cretinous freak Owens blubbering all over the field afterwards suited Niners fans just fine. (Fags.)

Except to the fans, it's all irrelevant now. The Niners are a good, good football team that has been building to this for years (that debacle in Seattle was a 12th man induced aberration). I'd say with the momentum the Pack has right now and the development of the running game, these teams are dead even. Their defense has a slight edge offset by our better QB.

I'd predict 30-27 in overtime. Either team.
