And damn it. How about the catch by James Jones down the sideline on 3rd and long toward the end of the 3rd? What a huge freaking catch.

That's the thing about JJ. When he dropped the easy 1st down early in the opening QTR I thought to myself, Self, he's going to make that one up later in this game.

It's kind of become a thing with JJ. He'll stone hand an easy one early then earn it back later in the same game with a couple circus catches.

How can you tell if a guy can impact a game when there's no consistency to his playing time?

Couple that with the stunted, moronic, dumb**** offensive game plan they kept running considering the success they had early on in the season with short passing, picks and bunches.

I cannot express my vitriol towards the stupidity of that game plan because it gave the offense a case of the collective yips.  It's mind boggling how the offense is basically going to have to re-gel to even think about making an effective run if they make the playoffs.

That plus they didn't want to pay the $10 million plus that Charles wanted IIRC

Not sure RichRod can play Ultimate.  Ultimate disc is actually a lot of fun to watch.  My son is the captain of the Case Western Reserve University team (Cleveland) and I KNOW he is faster than R. Rodgers and likely much more agile.  Those guys run continuously throughout their matches...no way R. Rodgers survives it.

Uncatchable balls deep out of the EZ that could have drawn PI if the ball had been ANYWHERE near catchable. And the first Cobb "drop" where RC is standing wide open for several seconds and then AR throws the ball about 5 yards to RC's right and he has to lunge for it and drops it.

The throw where Janis got the PI was a terribly inaccurate throw.

I kept asking myself why they haven't been rolling Rodgers out at all.  Every time he scrambled a bit and rolled out yesterday, his throws seemed a little better.  He has looked very uncomfortable operating out of the pocket....seems to be dancing quite a bit back there.

Hyde is a bit of a head-scratcher. A guy with marginal speed who has a hip (speed) injury in pass coverage that opponents have been exploiting for a few weeks remains in the lineup why? Savvy can only get you so far when you need a certain physical competence to compete.

Good point Herschel. If you are playing Hyde for "savviness" then they should have never let Charles Woodson go. No one is more savvy than him and they let him go because they felt he couldn't hold up physically any more.

Yeah, and even at 39, Woodson is faster than Hyde.

Datone Jones: Is he finally proving worthy of his 1st round selection?

Raji: 45 yards for AP.

Daniels: 45 yards for AP & pressures on QB. He is making himself some $.

Clay: 45 yards for AP.

Dom: 45 yards for AP and unleashed the dogs (against a bad OLine).

Crosby: 5 for 5, what really happened last week against the Lions?

Janis: A big KO return and a 50 yard PI penalty. Why is he stuck on the bench again?

Was this the negatives section of your post?  I'm guessing you kidnapped Dan Devine's dog and the dog shot himself.

Defense. Overall a very good effort but it was against a pretty average QB. Need to see them do it against better competition where they've struggled in the past.

-

Played better than they did against the Lions but the offense is still pretty dysfunctional. All sorts of drops, missed throws by AR and instances where he and the receivers don't appear to be on the same page. Hopefully they'll continue to improve.

In fairness, Darrell Green at 55 is probably still faster than Hyde.

Er, wait....

He was, but McCarthy said late last week that he started the week with the offense and spent most of the week in those meetings. Watching him on the sideline (when the TV shots would go there) it appeared to me that he was more involved with the O during the game too.

Agree on Hyde.  He's been struggling all year and IMO, they played better without him yesterday.  Watching him cover those crossers is painful......especially when he's being outrun by TE's that outweigh him by 50 lbs.  Let Gunter and Rollins play.  Even if they're as bad as Hyde, they'll get experience.

And regarding Cobb, "terrible" is relative.  If Adams, Montgomery and Janis were playing like Cobb is now, we'd be ok with it.  But Cobb is a $10m WR now;  you don't pay a guy $10m per year to be a #2 WR who struggles when the #1 is out.  Expectations change when you sign that big contract and so far, Cobb hasn't earned it.  Maybe that shoulder injury has lingered, but the drop on third down is inexcusable.  He needs to catch that pass 100 times out of 100.

Re: Lacy, I think he took MM's saving him for the second half of the season way too literal, and went full skittles, cheetos and Xbox One on us there. It's cool, he never intended to come out until now. Big Mike might want to work on his communication skills. He aint talking the kids lingo.

Dat One worked his value up to a hell of a 3rd round pick...I'd still rather have a chance at a HOF receiver in the 2nd round, than a Dat One.

He has a ways to go to wash off the stink of being a # 1, but at least he has a fightin chance now.

He's probably one of those guys that just stays around forever and ends up doing the WBAY farm show in his golden years.

That might be enough to lock him in as a rock solid # 1 someday.

Hyde has been horrible all season.   Rollins needs to make the most of this and keep him on the bench.   He's a good guy to have on your roster as he is intelligent and is versatile, but if he is filling a major role it's trouble.

I've done that myself...knuckle bust the cherry right off a J being passed...put out the fire on the couch....regroup after some pizza or Doritos...and then re-light with the old one handed matchbook trick and bring down the house for ****s and giggles.

Disagree.

Gm 1 @ CHI:  19 for 85, 4.67 ypc, 1 TD  -  2 recpts for 14

Gm 2 vs SEA: 3 for 9, 3 ypc, 0 TD - 0 recpts   hurt his ankle

Gm 3 vs KAN: 10 for 46, 4.6 ypc, 0 TD - 3 recpts for 41

Gm 4 @ SFO: 18 for 90, 5 ypc, 0 TD - 1 recpt for 3

Gm 5 vs STL: 13 for 27, 2.08 ypc, 0 TD - 1 recpt for 8

--  I think he aggravated his ankle in the STL game (or this is when he hurt the groin) and it showed. He had no burst/power at the LOS the next few games.

Gm 6 vs SDG: 4 for 3, 0.75 ypc, 0 TD - 2 recpts for 17

Gm 7 @ DEN: 11 for 28, 3.45 ypc, 1 TD - 1 recpt for 9

Gm 8 @ CAR:  5 for 10, 2 ypc, 0 TD - 0 recpts

Gm 9 vs DET: In-active, listed with a groin

And then yesterday. Healthy again, running with power like the beginning of the season when they were saving him for the 2nd half of the season.

Saving him for the second half of the season doesn't mean he can't get a full load to start the season...it just means taper him off for a while in the middle.

Pretty much just how it went down.

Good post. Cobb is not a guy who should be expected to make circus catches or catch crossing patterns in front of safeties. He's the guy that you run underneath the LBs after your deep threats (Nelson) or a serviceable TE run the seam. Or you get him the ball on WR screens. He's a better version of Wes Welker. He's not a guy that you expect to run slants or deep outs. When he's matched up with a safety, he's as good as anyone in the slot. When he's matched up with a #1 CB on the outside, he's an average NFL WR.

Cobb is a cog...he aint the engine.

Unless it's 4th down with time running out and last chance for the division in Chitown.

Then.... he's a Bear killin machine.

Bingo.

There's a reason those people β„’ are watching the game alone.
