Suspect Brady just wanted to announce it on his own terms and is displeased with the leak. Appreciate his ability even more to seize on the opportunities as they occur in critical games after watching how the Packers exited the last two years.

Agreed. The leak likely did exactly what he was trying to avoid, which was draw attention to himself before the season was over.

My guess is he’ll stay quiet about this for two more weeks and then announce his retirement then.

I thought he took a pay cut?

One way to look at the pay cut he took is the following.

Aaron Rodgers last contract (that took him to 2023 until they reworked it last offseason) was for an average of 33.5 million a year.

Tom Brady's contract paid him 50 million over 2 years, but his signing with Tampa Bay was probably at least partially contingent on trading for Gronk. Gronk's contract was for 8 million a year.

I would bet that if they hadn't signed Gronk, he might have gotten the full 33 million.

Brady also stayed in a meaningless game at the end of this season to make sure Gronk got his million dollar incentive bonuses for catches and yards.

Be interesting to see what Rodgers would do if they asked him to give up a little money to apply to Adams.

So, what happens next December if Mac Jones sustains an injury that puts him out for the year and the Patriots are already playoff bound? If Bob Kraft and Belichick went to Brady and asked him to come back for a few games at the end of the year and then the playoffs, does Brady say no?

Or Josh McDaniels (his OC for many years) in Las Vegas?

I won't think he's really retired until he says no to something like that.

Tom Brady's parting gift to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - $32 million of backloaded contract dead cap to hit their books over the next 1-2 years while he isn't even on the team.

He gave that sorry franchise only their 2nd Super Bowl win in their team’s history.  I think a year of cap hell is worth it in this particular case.

Never say never but he is never going back to the Pats. In his retirement announcement today he never mentioned Pats, Kraft, Belicheck, and Pats players or Pats fans.  And boy are Pats fans pissed.

A) he thanked the team and fans 2 years ago when he left.

B) he's heading to Massachusetts tomorrow to sign a 1 day contract and officially retire as a Patriot.
