If you are given a promotion, then after 6 months or so you are fvcking up so bad your boss takes away that promotion and essentially demotes you, do you want to stick around?

Green Bay — The following is a summary of coach Mike McCarthy's press conference on Monday:

(On the message to the team) Team message today was it’s all about the Minnesota Vikings. We talked in the locker room last night. Addressed what I felt needed to be addressed after the game. It’s a football game that clearly got away from us. I think what’s obvious is the turnover ratio and points off turnovers. We met as a staff this morning. Wanted to get in there and get focused on the Vikings. Liked the time we spent with the players.

(On the confidence of the team) Not worried about confidence. We’re playing for a division championship. We have injury situations we have to work out this week. Minnesota is healthy. They had a big win over the Giants last night. Impressive victory. We’re dialed into the Vikings right now.

(On Bakhtiari and Bulaga) I can’t tell you. I talked to Bryan today. He’s getting treatment, just like Dave. They both want to play this week.

(On handling the injury situation knowing you’re in the playoffs) Every injury is different. Every player is different. Every player reaction, recovery to injuries is different too. We obviously want to have our best players out there and play to win the game, to win the division and have a home playoff game. … We’re not going to change our philosophy on injuries. I’m not a big believer in holding players or letting them take another week. … You have to put your best players out there every single week.

(On Jared Abbrederis) Jared Abbrederis had some opportunities. He had a dropped ball on a big play there. However the substitution pattern go for each position group after that are usually based on performance. Obviously our offense was poor, so I don’t really think this is the time to talk about snaps.

(On sticking with Davante Adams over Abbrederis) You know, really who plays, where they play really has no concern. It’s really not even a topic in here. Those decisions are football decisions. … I’m not saying Jared didn’t play because of that one play, that’s just the way the rotation came about.

(On defensive performance) I thought the defense did some good things. Going through the corrections, we had too many mental errors and penalties. This was a fast starting offense and game got away from us.

(On his opinion of the team) My opinion of my football team is we made way too many mistakes against a very good football team that played well. I thought they played pretty much flawless in the first half. … To be down 17-0 wasn’t a pure reflection — that’s not true. I don’t want to take anything away from the Cardinals. Unfortunately, it looked as bad as it felt during the game. It’s time to beat the Vikings.

(On the Vikings game last month) Just watching the tape of the game again today, we were efficient with our play style and execution. We ran the ball the way we’re supposed to. … That’s the style of play and level of execution we expect.

(On JC Tretter at tackle due to injury) He’s always worked there. He’s always worked at every single position. He’s in the discussion there.

(On James Starks) You’ve got to hold onto the football. That’s been the case for 10 years now. If you don’t hold onto the football, you won’t play. That goes without being said. James has put the ball on the ground multiple weeks now and it affected his playing time.

(On balance going forward) I’d like to have 72-75 plays a game and if you could cut that in half 35-35 that’s a dream game. With our quarterback, our offensive line and our backs, that tailors to what you want to do. It doesn’t happen that way all the time. We played a team yesterday that leads the league in (fewest) penalties. They’re disciplined. We were sloppy. It was a factor we discussed Saturday night during the officials review. … I have faith on the team regardless of what happened yesterday.

(On worrying about plays) I think it’s just myself reiterating a common theme I’ve restated up here a number of occasions. I think so much gets made of plays and scheme … we know what we’re doing by designing plays but at the end of the day it’s about giving the players resources to be successful.

Green Bay — The following is a summary of defensive coordinator Dom Capers' press conference on Monday:

(On taking a step back) Well, we knew going in that it was the No. 1 offense in the NFL. It was going to be a challenge. Your execution has to match the people you’re playing against, and we weren’t able to do it consistent enough to have the kind of performance we want to have.

(On personnel) We were in our five devensive back package for most of the game. We used six defensive backs on third downs.

(On the loss of B.J. Raji) I thought Letroy (Guion) stepped in and really did a nice job. He played a good game. His production was good. I thought he was physical in there. Letroy played that position for us all last year. He stepped in and did a nice job for us.

(On the two-minute defense) The big plays, we’ve got to get that squared away. I’ll say this: We went out there and the very first play Mike Daniels makes the interception. But you’ve got to come out and do it again.

(On Clay Matthews’ lack of tackles) You get into games where teams do a good job mixing the run and pass. We saw a lot of empty backfield sets where they were spreading you out. This team has probably one of the most talented receiving corps in the leagues and a great quarterback. … There are times when Clay will drop into coverage more than he’s rushing. That’s the case yesterday.

(On the defense playing well and the offense struggling) I don’t think our guys look at that that way. You walk in the defensive room and our guys know the job is to go out and stop people. It doesn’t matter where they take the ball or what the field position is. … The two-minute drill at the end of the half and then the adversity situation to start the second half is not what we want. Now I’ll say this: I think our guys continue to fight and fought back because when you have back-to-back series like that it can affect the rest of the game. And I don’t think it did.

(On Jake Ryan in coverage) He was going against a really good receiving running back. Jake just has to stay under control and hold his leverage. It’s all about leverage. … Jake is a young player and he’s learning. It’s kind of on-the-job learning for him.

(On missing Sam Shields) Sam has been around here a long time, played a lot of football for us, played in a lot of big games. Obviously you’d like to have all your veteran guys to play in these big games.

(On roughly 20 total takeaways) You’re never where you really want to be. We’ve had a number of opportunities where we haven’t converted them. To get up into that 30 area you’ve got to really convert your opportunities.

For the first time in many years, poor weather actually favors the Packers. Anything that lessens the impact of the passing game favors Green Bay. That's probably the first time I could say that since 1992.

To earn that money and be a part of the NFL... Hell yeah, I do.

The previous game showed that we match up well against the Vikings.  I expect more of the same this Sunday with the division on the line.

As for the suggestion that we tank, while I would prefer to play the Redskins (over the Seahawks), I couldn't stomach laying down to the Vikings in Lambeau and handing them the division.  Plus, a win would help to generate some momentum for the Packers heading into the playoffs.

In this situation, you have to play to win the game.

Using the same move the Rams punter employed means you quit.

I would love to see our entire offense line up on the first play and fall backward with their hands up begging not to get hit.  What would Roger do?

Blame Jaris!?

"Tomlin says that the team will be “measured” by their ability to get “that stench of last week’s performance off us” regardless of what happens with the Jets."

I liked this quote, wish MM had a similar quote to fire up the troops and kick the queens arses.  That STENCH against the Cardinals needs to be purified by a glorious victory this Sunday.

Thanks for trying to get back on topic, LL.

What you say is true, and I can't see where our approach on defense will be much the same as the first time around; keep AP's rushes contained, and force them to throw as often as possible.
This should play to our strengths. Although we didn't produce any interceptions, the defense did get 6 sacks on Teddy B. We kept Peterson contained all day (13 rush/45 yds), and Burnett forced a fumble against him.
As I recall the game, the defense had the classic bend-don't-break look. Bridgewater was 25/37 for 296 yds, but only produced one TD. Had he not missed some wide-open receivers, it could have been a different story. Minnesota did everything but win this game.

Offensively, we were a mess passing the ball. Jones had a big game (6 rec/109 yds 1 TD), but ARod was only 16/34 for 212 yds. He did have 2 TDs passing, however.
Lacy ran well (22/100), but Crosby was the one that did all the scoring in this game (5 FGs).
Given our current situations at all positions on offense, I can't say I expect a lot to be different this time around. It is imperative, of course, to rush well, but Lacy is hurting and Starks is in the doghouse. Actually, I hope he's not hurt; his neck got compressed fairly hard on the play where he fumbled. If we have to ride Crockett and Kuhn, so be it.
Who knows what we will see from the passing attack? So much is dependent on the performance of the OL, but even if they pass protect decently, there's no predicting what the WRs will do. It sure needs to be better than what we've seen the last few weeks.

Really isn't incomprehensible when you understand he is coming off concussions, torn ACL and a rib injury within the past 18 months.

Then why is he on the ****ing roster?  I'm pretty sure if you're going have the guy gut up and see what's there now is that time.  If he's so damaged they don't think he can contribute in any fashion at such a time of utter need he doesn't deserve a roster spot.

There was some video of practice in an article about one month ago of both our receivers & RBs going through drills (it was posted on the forum). Two things jumped out at me; 1) Lacy has much better feet than Starks, who looked slow and deliberate when doing the rope drill) 2) Abby made the sharpest and most explosive cuts of the WRs, others seemed to "round off" their cuts, while Abby was able to plant a foot and change directions more quickly.

Past injuries have nothing to do with Abby not playing. He's not playing because MM sees him only as a slot receiver and he seems more interested in having a TE or FB on the field than a 4th WR on passing downs. I guess MM doesn't think the offense has quite enough slow players.

Anybody who watched Abbrederis in college knows that he's a great technician. Going into the pros the biggest concerns were his injury history, lack of size and strength, short area quicks and deep speed. But as far as WR technique is concerned from the second he joined the Packers he was probably the second best player on the team after Jordy. His only technical flaw is getting off of jams where his size/strength/quickness combo works to his detriment.

Agreed, 100%.  If he's not good enough to be on the field he shouldn't be on the team, but if he's on the team he's certainly good enough to be on the field given the state of the current WR corps.

McCarthy was rambling on about Abbrederis dropping that pass, yet he continues to trot Adams out there series after series.

I do expect the Packers to win this game.  I don't think losing is even worth discussing, it's not like playing the Redskins is a guaranteed victory by any stretch of the imagination.
