I think Des Bishop is still available. 

Lattimore is improving with each game. WRs the size of Jeffrey and Marshall and a TE like Bennett are going to get the best of a LB from time to time. 

Wow. Just saw that the Cardinals cut him on the 6th. 3rd team over 3 seasons and he's 30, and he was never very fast to begin with (he knew how to hit and was rarely out of position). I'd have to image he's just about washed up. However, I guess it's possible he just didn't fit in the systems of other teams, like Flynn with the Seahawks/Raiders/Bills.

Once Bishop tore his hamstring in 2012, his days as close-to-Pro Bowl level LB were over. It was nice of the Vikings to give him another nice payday after that though.

What it comes down to is the interior DL not doing their job. It is the responsibility of the DEs and NT in this scheme to keep the ILBs clean and they're not doing it. Hawk, Lattimore, Jones and Barrington are all below average ILBs who look 10x worse because they have OL on them immediately. I'm not defending the ILBs because like I said they all stink, but when a 300 lb OL is able to cleanly get his hands on a 240/250 lb LB and turn him then chances are good they are going to get washed out of the play completely. The most valuable thing that Justin Smith and Ray McDonald do for the SF D is that they are disciplined and they don't allow OL to get downfield in a hurry which allows Willis and Bowman to attack the ball carrier immediately. That interior DL is a mess. 

Every position group relies on another position group for help...the CBs need Safety help, the Safeties need CB help, they both need the pass rush to succeed, the pass rush needs the DBs to succeed, the ILBs need the DL, the pass rush needs the DL, etc. When one group fails, it's a domino effect of failure...the DL fails then ILBs can't do their job, which forces the Safeties to play closer, which forces the CBs to work with less help, which opens passing opportunities, which hurts the pass rush, which hurts the coverage, etc. Right now the DL is lacking in size and talent and they're simply not doing their job. 

Capers played a lot of nickel again yesterday and it worked to take away the 2 big WRs, but certainly not the big TE

It also leaves only 6 defenders in the box, and the bears blocked those 6 way too easily

Most teams start leaning toward the pass when they get down a few scores and that's what happened in the 2nd half. Had they stuck with the run, they may have matriculated down the field for a score, but they panicked and then Jay was Jay...

and he matriculated the ball into the hands of the defense.

Good thing the refs realized he had the ball or they might have thrown a flag.

That was the old scheme. Now they want the DLs to make plays. But even if that weren't the case -- how are TWO defensive linemen (because now Capers runs this ridiculous 2-5 package) supposed to hold up FIVE offensive lineman and allow the LBs to make plays? And you can't say the OLBs (Matthews and Peppers, etc.) count as defensive ends -- Peppers, maybe. But it gets back down to your point -- how can anyone expect 250-260lb LBs to beat 300+lb OLs? WHAT THE **** IS CAPERS THINKING?

NEGATIVES: 

1. Run defense (the 2-5 front will make this a weekly negative)

2. Pass rush (2-5 front redux)

3. No forced punts (the Jay Cutler picks were entirely his own fault and really saved the game from coming down to who had the ball last)

4. Eddie Lacy is afraid to run hard 

5. Referees (not enough real penalties so they had to call SOMETHING)

He's thinking they don't have jack**** for defensive linemen and 47 linebackers make a great core. The 4-3 was arguably worse against both the run and the pass.

In theory, Peppers, Neal and even Perry should be able to go toe-to-toe with offensive linemen, but that theory was put together while filling an oversized hookah with premium Turkish hash as two of the three have slimmed down.   If they had the pure speed to consistently blow by o-linemen it might be different, but team speed isn't a defensive strong suit in Green Bay.

You're right they don't have jack at the DL -- they didn't think they needed any apparently. 

And keeping the EMPHASIZED Special Teams unit stocked with "can't have too many LB/TE types (M. McCarthy)" is really paying dividends, too.

Not surprising.  This team has had the same MO for years now and blowouts vs divsion rivals on the road are very rare.

Same $hit all over again.

I'm sick of this defense & MM better do something about it.

I was AT this game a year ago. 1 year later & we didn't see anything different, including a Packer victory.

Did Shields have the wrong shoes? He seemed to be the only Packer slipping a lot.

And the stupidity of his offsides penalty on the field goal was amazing, right up there with AJ Hawk's gaffe in the NFCCG. It's a short field goal, why go all out from the outside on a block? One of many brain farts that day for Sammy.
