+ Eddie Lacy is a beast. On one of the maybe 2 or 3 most dangerous passing offenses in the NFL, having a truck like Lacy that can just run over people is a luxury. We haven't had that for a while. If this offensive line stays healthy (please, Lord), even if the defense is inconsistent, Lacy gives us a dimension that this offense hasn't had in the recent seasons when we've exited the playoffs prematurely. Rodgers had to win it pretty much by himself, and against the really good teams, the teams you see in the playoffs, a one dimensional team won't go far. But if Green Bay can run the ball, the passing routes open up a little more, and Rodgers gets a little more time to pass. Instead of clogging up the passing lanes, opposing defenses need to look for Lacy, not only as a runner, but a receiver out of the backfield. Ahman Green might have been the most dynamic runner Green Bay has ever had, but Eddie Lacy might end up being the most complete back we've had since the Lombardi years. The guy can block, he can turn a screen into an 80 yard pass play, and when he sniffs the endzone, the man has another gear. 

 

Aaron Rodgers. Kid puts up a 110.00 passer rating, and it feels like he had an off week. Only 209 yards and 2 TD passes. 38 yards rushing. 

 

Only. There are at least twenty other teams in the NFL that would kill to have somebody duplicating Aaron's "off" weeks. As I said before in the game thread, 30 touchdowns, 3 interceptions. That's not human. In a tight game where a turnover could mean the difference between winning and losing, Aaron doesn't turn the ball over. Ever. 

 

We need to remember that the two interceptions against New Orleans were tipped passes. Aaron Rodgers could very easily have a 30:1 TD to pick ratio. We're witnessing one of the greatest seasons ever by one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. And as much as we love the guy, appreciating his work ethic, his spectacular talent, his mind, and his football IQ. he's playing at even a higher level than I've ever seen before. He's going to be maybe a point or two off his 2011 record setting season because he threw more touchdown passes, and more yards. When you're coming out in the third quarter, those yardage numbers will dip. But has anybody here ever seen better quarterback play...ever? Joe Montana is still the best I've ever seen. He didn't have the arm of Marino, Elway or Favre. But he was so smart with the ball. Well, Rodgers does have a gun. He makes throws that nobody else in the game would even think of trying. When #4 was here, you could say the same thing because of hubris. Brett had the gunslinger mentality. And he would make throws that didn't seem human. But for all those throws, there were boneheaded, game-ending turnovers. It's a testament to Mike Holmgren that he was able to keep Favre under control while he was the HC. That's when Brett was at his very best. 

Aaron Rodgers is as good now as Brett ever was. He's better. He has all the good stuff Brett did, and none of the bad. All I know is that I am watching every single game I can when #12 is playing. He still has many years left. He's in his early prime. But one day, hopefully several years and multiple rings from now, when he retires, we will never see another quarterback this good. We will have a good quarterback, and they could be really be good, because of the staff we have in place. But Rodgers is special. On a franchise that experienced quarterback play at the highest level- Bart Starr (the 1966 NFL MVP), Don Majkowski (the NFL MVP runner up in 1989), and Brett Favre (the NFL MVP in 1995, 1996 and co-MVP in 1997), Aaron Rodgers is the best of them all. 

 

- the defense. Contrary to the assumptions of a few people, no, I am not happy that the defense struggled today. I am a Packer fan, and I want this team to win the Super Bowl every year. When we have the very best player in the NFL, we should be winning more than one Super Bowl. We should at least be getting to more than one Super Bowl. But the thing that could keep us from getting there again? The defense. We spend first round pick after first round pick, year after year, and it's not getting better. Some weeks, it looks good when the opposing team has a glaring weakness. When a really good Eagles offense didn't have Kevin Kolb, we smoked them because the guy under center stunk. Mark Sanchez couldn't hold on to the Jets starting quarterback job, and the Jets haven't been relevant since Mark Gastineau roamed the field. 

 

I want this defense to be consistent. If this defense could be great, that would be awesome, and there wouldn't be a happier Packer fan anywhere. But I would settle for pretty good, and consistent. A defense that gets good, consistent pressure on the quarterback. A defense that plays pretty well against the run. A defense that exhibited sound fundamentals in areas like tackling, bump and run coverage. A defense that doesn't consistently get ripped a new one whenever the ball is thrown over the middle. Safety has been addressed, and I like Ha Ha Clinton-Dix a lot. Shields is really good. There is some talent back there. But when they have to worry about poor linebacker play, they can't be as effective. 

 

I don't want to see Rodgers retire having only played in one Super Bowl.

+ Brad Jones played from scrimmage and didn't screw up.. He has been  playing ST's well, but he should for his salary.

Did the DB's have a case of ADD today

+ Burnett and Dix. It been awhile since GB has had solid safety play.
- Letting  the Queens score the last TD and 2 point conversion . That was the biggest disappointment  of the game.

Positives: 

1. The better team won the game.

2. The offensive line played well, helping Lacy to average five yards per carry and giving Rodgers time to make plays when they counted most. 

3. Randall Cobb is "Mr. 3rd Down." 

4. Joe Buck wasn't announcing.

5. Clinton-Dix with some nice tackles and a good pass breakup. 

 

Negatives: 

1. AJ Hawk. 

2. Vikings seemed to start near midfield every drive; Pooch kickoffs, then a good return by Patterson the one time they kicked it to him. Damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't sort of thing.  

3. Morgan Burnett intercepting a long pass on 4th down. It was negated by a BS penalty. 

4. Several BS penalties. 

5. Poor tackling by the secondary not including Clinton-Dix. 

+ Gritty win

 

- Watching Borland look like the best ILB in the draft and still having to watch Hawk waddle around week in and week out.

Close ones like this are tough to stomach but they will help the team in the long run

 

Relatively important win in terms of the playoff race. Packers in 1st place. 

 

Offensive line in the 4th quarter. Pretty much imposed their will on that defense. Glad MM stuck to the run.

Penalties. Not a lot but more than usual and they were all very costly

 

Dumbness. Goodson's fair catch. Adams' block in the back. Neal...whatever the **** he was doing today.

 

Thought the defense did okay, considering they were getting the Queens best shot but I would've like to have seen them step up on that last drive and stop them

 

 

Solid win.

A lot of good individual efforts: Hyde, Burnett, Boyd, Peppers, Cobb, Rodgers, Quarless, Lacy, Kuhn, Richard Rodgers, Linsely, Sitton, and Lang stood out in mind.

A lot of poor individual efforts and/or mental mistakes: Tramon (blown coverage), Dix (missed tackles again), Neal (mental mistakes/poor judgement), Matthews (missed opportunities), Hawk (poor effort/missed opportunities), Bahktiari (mental mistakes/penalties), Duhvante Adams (rookie mistakes), Nelson (no separation/missed opportunities), Starks. 

 

I give credit to the Vikings. They executed really well despite the fact that their gameplan was pretty simple for a game of this magnitude. Mike Zimmer, unfortunately, seems to have them going in the right direction, effort wise. His team plays harder and more disciplined than any of the previous regimes. Unfortunately for Zimmer I don't have faith his GM will ever give him a championship team. 

Did anyone notice the "can of grape (purple) crush" Aaron was drinking during his post game press conference?

I don't think you're going to see Hawk on Gronk. I think/hope you'll see Clay taking on that challenge. Let Hawk pick up the RB or send him up the middle to clog things up. I have no wishes to watch Hawk trying to get close enough to touch Gronk's heels as he's running away. You might see Hyde on Gronk, which is a mismatch on size and strength, but at least Hyde may be able to bring him down after 15 yards or so...

 

Terrifically disappointed in the last TD, and even more disappointed that they ran the almost identical play for the 2-points and we still didn't get any closer to the WR. Betty White would have been that open. 

 

Nice win today as this was the Queens' Super Bowl, and they have a pretty darn good defense. (I'd take Barr anytime.) Bridgewater just looks uninterested out there. They praise his poise, but I see a guy who looks a little lost and who just doesn't have it in him to take command and rally the troops.

 

But, a win is a win is a win... 8-3 looks awfully dang good right now!
