I am not a Trevor Davis fan

He does “just enough” to keep a roster spot but honestly his mental skills don’t match his physical skills.  If Kumerow isn’t taking all of his snaps then something is wrong

Agree about Davis but I think Kumerow has a pretty low ceiling as well

NOOOOOOooooooo!

If he misses any time I hope to see Jackson at Safety but reality is it will be Tramon Williams.    So Williams moves to S and Brown / Jackson see increased snaps in the nickle / dime.

I can't grade Alexander's entire day but he had one amazing play that I saw.  It was on the  left side of the defense where Alexander was covering his man on a crossing route but the ball comes out to an uncovered guy crossing in front of Jaire.  He sees it and leaves his man and makes the tackle for like 3 yard gain.  Could have gone for at least 10 probably more.  Stud.

EDIT: It was actually a pass break up.  Found a clip of it and I haven't seen a Green Bay DB have closing speed like that in years.

I think ya missed my point notabrain (BrainDed),    I say I got it....did ya see that, “I got it” part of the post???

+  I was at the game and after that first quarter, was feeling absolutely fantastic.  Pretty much the perfect way to start the game.

+  The Vikings fans around us were much more tolerable than the Bears fans we were around last year in the home opener.  I have to be complimentary of the Vikings fans, they seemed like a good bunch overall and that actually surprised me at least a little bit.  I suppose the fact that they were down 21-0 quickly and had to watch Kirk Cousins choke away any chance they had to win probably subdued them at least a little.

- I came into this game worried that the Pack wasn't going to be able to slow or stop Cook.  It probably went a little worse than I anticipated.  I thought he got the best of our defense overall today, but had little help from his 30 million dollar QB.

- So far in 2 games we still see some of the same problems from last year between Rodgers and the receivers.  There were way too many times were he was jumpy in the pocket and wasn't really seeing anybody get open quickly.   It's early in the season so that could get better as the season goes on, but it does remind me of the frustrations of last year a little bit.

Not sure they win by thirty, but chunk plays were an issue.

Yup.  And it's also a great learning opportunity.

As I said in the game thread, after that TD Wayne and Larry went down to John Kuhn on the sideline, who said that pass was on Kevin King's side of the field and Alexander ran all the way over to try to break it up since Diggs just went right by King.

(I didn't have the game on TV, so can't confirm whether that's the way the play really played out.)

It looked like King  (and several others) were late lining up on the play and that this allowed Diggs to get off the line with so bump or redirect from King.

Trevor Davis punt returns.

  • Fails to call fair catch with guy right in his face.  Lucky to hang on to it.
  • Calls for a fair catch and then go on to block.
  • Catch the punt with nobody on the screen, then fall down while dancing, twice.

He is the definition of inept. Move him out.

Did Jimmy Graham catch a pass today? I mean FFS I can follow the logic of a player sucking as a blocker if he’s an above average receiver. That sack was inexcusable from multiple fronts, but mostly Jimmy Graham couldn’t handle what should have been, at a minimum, a stiff shoulder chip or a decent cut block. The play wasn’t meant for Graham to block long, Rodgers should have realized (it was his front side) that he had Graham vs Hunter and gotten the ball out. Graham isn’t the right personnel for that play either, it was a bad play call from MLF. But seriously JG, just get a piece of him. Earn your check!

It's because the same problem from last year is we have no one after 17 that can get open when he has to.  AR is holding the ball because nobody is open.  There is a serious lack of talent at WR/TE on this team.  That's why Jimmy Graham is out there getting blown down by a pass rusher's wake, and why Trevor Davis is back returning punts. 81 has moments but he's got to get the little things down.  Like not coughing up the ball and knowing where first down markers are.  MVS might get there, he might not.  There isn't anybody else on the team worth even speculating on.

The scripted series to start the game were things of beauty. But the final 3 quarters zero points. Again seemed to revert to sandlot football with AR dancing in the pocket too long.

The D bent but didn't break too much. It wasn't the dominant effort we saw week 1 but we have enough progress on that side of the ball to make a playoff run if the passing game gets figured out

Jones and Adams were studs on offense. Need some other playmakers to emerge.

Tackling and securing INT are areas we need to get better on defense.

Crazy amount of flags. We were the beneficiary of a few ticky tack calls but that's the game

I loathe Trevor Davis. The mistakes he makes in the return game are inexcusable. Sad to see him taking a roster spot as a "sometimes fair catcher"

Was there a pass to a tight end all game?

Savage + Alexander are studs. Savage whiffed bad on Cooks TD run but it was open field. Alexander learns to catch the ball and he's All Pro.

Thrilled to be 2-0!

I think everything was up and down. DBs blew chances, Rodgers blew some chances, tackling was iffy at times, OL blocking was up and down, Alexander had some plays he needs to make. But that first q is what this offense can do. They landed a few solid haymakers, and while they couldn’t land the knockout, they got the decision.

Packers also got a bunch of breaks, but as it always is with football, the more pressure you get on the QB the better chance your D will come up with turnovers and drive killing plays. This pass rush is the reason they’re 2-0.

Good
We got to see what this offense is capable of.
Running game, both Jones and the OL.
Jenkins got his feet wet.
Adams, MVS, and ARod.
Opie had another good game.
Lowry whipped his man all game long.

Not Good
Refs. No idea why they lose their chit under pressure. If all else fails, use a phone or the tablet to look up what they need to know. More disturbing is why "NYC" doesn't take a role in those situations.

Rush defense.  Just a hair under 200 yards allowed. And way too susceptible to zone blocking/RB cuts.
Not converting pass rush into sacks. Cousins escaped way too many times today.
Pass pro after the 1st quarter.
Graham. ARod loves him, and I have no clue why.
Geronimo and Davis. Both guys have physical skills, but mental skills are lacking.

He's a very talented player. Other than the 75 yard run I thought they did a reasonably good job against him.

Blake Martinez with 13 tackles was impressive.

Jimmy Graham can't block.  At all.  Come on man!!!

BJ Goodson needs to be better.  Not sure he's capable of it though.

I'm guessing Jenkins is going to be starting over Taylor here very soon.

Sounds like Savage left the stadium in a boot because he got kicked in the shin.  All things considered, that's damn good news.

Martinez just keeps on impressing.  Goodson is a scrub.  He was in there to be a thumper but when you're playing against a shifty runner like Cook a thumper doesn't matter much.  Graham definitely cannot block but I'm not sure how he was lined against Hunter with no help when they had two Vikings lining up over the top of Graham.

WE'll see but I don't think so. Greene plays more of a box safety than Williams and they aren't going to move Amos or Savage down there I don't think. Maybe they activate Campbell if he is eligible? He'd be the most likely guy to play that sort of spot.

On the Alexander/Digs TD pass. Alexander said he lost the ball in the sun. Based on where that play happened and the direction he faced, I believe that. North EZ looking back to the SW.

If not for that quirk, the D so far would have only given up 18pts through 2 games. 1TD and 4FG's.  That's promising.  And the only RB's we'll see in Cook's class the rest of the way are Elliott and Barkley.

Another thing about the D is they could have been even better yesterday.  There were missed opportunities, ie more dropped INT's.  The encouraging thing is that they were in position to make those plays.  Making the catch should come.

I don't know about Dez.  Head case.  Slow after the injury.  Unfamiliar with the playbook.  I think we're kind of stuck with what we got and hope 81 and 83 develop as the season wears on.  Getting the RB's more involved in the passing game will also help.  Started seeing some of that yesterday.  Deebo Samuel would have looked good in GB.

I just barfed a little in my mouth when I "liked" this comment, but it might be the right move. Seems like a bit of a broken record over the last few years. Pre-season...too bad we're so deep at WR we have to cut fringe guy Abby, Lizard Guy, etc, etc. Regular season...no one can get open, we are so thin at WR.

Uff. Maybe MVS can get there but he's at least a half season away... probably more.

Negative: Hate (HATE) the new PI review rules. Yes, it worked to our advantage in this game, but that crap is going to come back to bite us in the ass, for sure (at least once) . As much as I despise the Queens, I was not a fan of that call in the end zone.

Hunter was almost on the sideline. Pretty impressive speed on that young man.

As as far as Dez goes, he’s a bit older and maybe a bit more humbler by now. Maybe a tire kicker.

Diggs.  Just horrible.  Cost his team any chance they had.  Unreal.

Take your helmet off, dumfukk.  Take your team out of any chance of a 2 point conversion.  Fuk yourself up your own stupid fuking ass you twit.

I'll leave the negatives alone.  But 23 is a generational talent @ CB.  I really believe that.  He had NO business even being remotely close to the ball in the photo above.  He may end up being an all timer,  Lots of anti 23 comments today. He got in Diggs' head so bad today.  That will never come up in a box score.

You bet your ass Jaire was in Diggs head all day! Jaire is going to be a superstar in this league. Jaire ran about a mile to get close to intercepting this pass that Diggs caught. Our DBs are really going to be difference makers this season. Now, let's make a play for Minkah Fitzpatrick.....I get shivers down my spine just thinking of it!

The problem isn't Goodson being a thumper, it's that Goodson AND Mart are both thumpers. You need to pair a thumper with a speedier guy (like Burks or Greene in Dime) or your guys are going to be a step slow. Goodson chewed up a lot of blockers yesterday to keep Mart clean and fill gaps.

Watching it again I'm a little more forgiving of Graham (he still ****ed up though), but less of Rodgers and Aaron Jones. 1) Jones should have picked up Hunter WITH Graham instead of chasing Kendricks who likely wouldn't have hit Rodgers before he threw 2) Rodgers has to see Hunter shaded outside Graham's outside shoulder and Kendricks on his inside shoulder presnap, he didn't set the protection correctly, and during the play it's his front side and he has to see that coming and get the ball out immediately. His clock is way off.

100% agree.   All Graham is good for is boxing out a guy in the red zone.    Tonyan needs those snaps between the 20's and probably in the 20's as well to assist the run game.

I got high hopes for Gmo but he keeps disappointing.    I hold no hope for Davis and would rather Sheppard be active on game day.
