A 9-13 record in the last 22 games, excessive loyalty to sub-par coaches, questionable in-game decision making and stubborness to recognize a stale, predictable offense are all indictments of Mike McCarthy.  I think it's obvious that the Packers are demonstrating the law of diminishing returns with MM in his 11th season.  Have to think players have tuned him out, especially #12.  So, hoping/assuming that TT has the balls to make a change at year end, who do you want to be the next Coach of the Green Bay Packers?  What is Sean Payton's status with the Saints?  

If I were Mark Murphy and the Board, I would also take a good look at TT and see if his philosophies have run their course.  Sure, the free agents have been a nice story, but there have been way too many misses in the early rounds, where genuine impact players are selected.  Look at what Minny has done with their defense with the linebackers and DB's they have picked in the high rounds as opposed to Datone Jones, Damarius Randall, Khyri Thornton, Jerrel Worthy,etc.  Sure, guys like Ladarious Gunter are nice stories, but we're talking about guys who are #'s 47-53 on the active roster instead of top 10.  TT is overrated.

If Murphy made the change and cleaned complete house, I wouldn't shed any tears. TT is a good GM and MM is a good coach. But the mission, the message, the "buy in" for this franchise is gone.

IMO, I just think a fresh look, new eyes are needed. I highly doubt TT goes anywhere..hell, MM may not either. But when you look at this roster, it's a lot of "just a guy" on this team. You can find Goodsons, Perillos, Brices, etc all over this league.

And save the **** regarding injuries. Teams all across the league deals with injuries, it's just not an excuse anymore in today's NFL.

This is a stale, lifeless, tired team. New energy, new blood is needed.

Not interested in the same ol, same ol names and retreads that will be nominated.  

Change for the sake of change will not cut it.....if you are going to move on, move on. GB should have plenty of money, enough to entice the best coach and GM.  There are some attractive players that could be attractive and bring some high return.  

If the thought is that the time has come....do it and do it big.

 

 

I've been an MM fan for a long time, but MM shouldn't have a seat anywhere at 1265 much less a hotseat. The team has stopped listening to him, he's lost touch with the players, and I think it's pretty obvious that he and AR aren't going to be having a beer with each other any day soon.  And enough has been said about MM's asinine stubbornness. 

Jury is still out on TT. Who sets the final roster? How much input does MM have on that? Has TT put his boot up the rear of MM or not? Does TT still have the fire?

We have a good, not great, roster that can be successful, but I think players aren't being put in a position to succeed. And that's on the coaches, and ultimately, the head coach.

No retreads.  Cowher, Gruden, et. al. are like the flashy, big name free agents that arent' going to have a long enough shelf-life to make much of a difference.  PLus, some of those guys have been away from coaching long enough that they aren't going ot be able to adjust to the new NFL with lack of real practices, etc.  So if changes are made, I think they need to find new blood. 

For head coach, maybe Dave Aranda, DC at LSU.  Great defensive coach.  Would get that part of the team on track quickly.  He worked wonders with the Badgers when he came in.

I just can't believe AR has fallen apart so fast.  I think there has to be some sort of lack of communication or rift, or he just isn't buying MM's message anymore.  Something.  You can see he still has it, just not consistent.  I am not as up to speed on the brilliant offensive minds out there, but there has to be someone that can bring a fresh approach and get AR back to his previous play.  And get him to seem excited again.  He doesn't look like he's enjoying playing. 

They aren't going to be able to flip a witch and completely rebuild the roster in one off-season, so whoever runs the offense would need to bring in a scheme that can at least use the current crop of WRs and get the most out of them while newer, better WRs get added to the mix.  Numerous folks here have noted that it almost seems like the scheme is to blame, as the WRs run the same, predictable routes and are just expected to beat their defenders.  There has to be ways to get them open, and they need to find someone who can get more creative there.  I just don't have a name.

Lovie Smith 100%. He was cursed in Chicago with bad GMs and bad QBs (as has every coach since) and no HC succeeds in Tampa since Gruden. Lovie has an eye for really good assistant coaches, his teams always play hard as heck, and he always fields good defenses. The man took a team to the SB with Rex Grossman at QB for fuk sake. 

The Wolf/TT personnel tree has been strong...Schneider, McKenzie, and Dorsey are all taking what they learned from TT/Wolf and adapting it to 2016. I'd like to continue with this tree and keep Eliot Wolf. He's not going to be a TT clone, he's grown up in the changing NFL. 

I'd stick with Thompson and McCarthy for at least one more year because the track record is there.  However, McCarthy has to do a far, far better job evaluating his coaching staff.  He obviously whiffed badly in this area last off-season (Richard Rodgers has certainly looked a ton better with that new TE coach, hasn't he!).  If his recommended fixes at year's end is to fire James Campen and Joe Whitt then I'll flip-flop and suggest that firing McCarthy would be a good idea.  Thompson should definitely be using free agency more to fill out depth in weak areas of the roster.  Hard to blame the running back mess on anyone but him.  It's not like Lacy and Starks were looking real good at the end of last season.

If I were Ted Thompson I would do the following:

Fire Dom Capers and name either Winston Moss or Joe Whitt J. as interim DC and let them begin to redesign the schemes for the defense.  We may just have "guys" in a lot of positions on D but for years I have seen wide open TE, inconsistent pass rush and bad/missed tackles under Dom.  Simplify the D, figure out a way to get pressure so our DBs don't have to cover all day.

Fire Tom Clements.  Let Edgar Bennett run the offensive in the interim.  Simplify the offensive, short quick plays that get the rhythm on the offensive, no 20 packages game plans.  Use the players that you have to force mismatches against the D.  RR is at best a 3rd string TE that can't block so why not line up Ty at TE and force a mismatch against the D.  Keep ARod in check, and get him in rhythm.  

Regardless of the out come of the season they need to fire McCarthy.  He is not going to change his philosophy and a change for him and for Green Bay is needed.  He had a great run here but it is pretty much over.  

Hire Sean McDermott as Head coach.  People asked the last time I posted who I would hire.  Green Bay has not had a Defense Minded HC since Ray Rhodes.  This defense has under performed for a long times and putting the focus on the D should help.

Hire Offensive Coordinator Kyle Shanahan (if possible).  Still a young coach with experience running offensives. He is a Quarterback's coach and hopefully can work with ARod to get him back to HOF level.

Hire Defense Coordinator Teryl Austin (if possible).  He has done a pretty good job with the Detroit D after they lost Suh.

The defense has to be the focus of the coaching staff changes between now and next season. 

I'm not an expert on this, but I did do a lot of research into what I would do if I were TT.  Pick it a part, call me a idot but offer other ideas.

TT wouldn't micromanage the staff. Those are decisions he would leave up to the new HC.

Doubt if it'll happen, but my preference would be for a complete housecleaning. If there are changes it's likely to be just MM and staff.

This is my hunch in that they will stick with TT and MM for one more year.  It just isn't the Packers style to panic and clean house like a Stalin purge. 

I will stand by my prediction that the first round of cleaning house will be to fire the coordinators and more than likely the entire defensive staff.  And then MM gets one more year (unless he quits) to turn it around and if not he then let go.  Now if they do fire MM and the entire staff I would like to see them go with a coach with a defensive background who coaches defenses with a nasty edge.  By the way I am surprised no one has said Les Miles yet.

As far as coaching background, it would be my preference that they don't hire a guy from college.  More often than not it never seems to work out.

If it were up to me both of them would be gone.  Not sure what Moss brings to this team and Capers  needs to go as soon as possible.  I have given him the benefit of the doubt for too damn long.  Nothing has changed.  I'm over it.  I would be ok if they kept McCarthy, but I also wouldn't be upset if he was shown the door too.  One thing for sure better happen is some kind of change.  It is needed.  It happens.
