The NFLFU announced yesterday that the Eagles will play a "home" game in Brazil to open the season on Friday Sept. 6.  Their featured opponents this season at home are the Packers, Cowboys and Steelers.  Will the Packers be the team sent to Brazil to play them or will it be the Cowboys?

Eagles opening the season in Brazil on the Friday after the opening Thursday night game...on their list of home opponents...the Green Bay packers. So, we have a 1/9 chance of being sent to Brazil for the opener

🇧🇷 <<----- see that flag? See those colors?

There's only 2 teams it could be....

  1. Cowboys
  2. Packers

....and since Packers aren't allowed to be on Hard Knocks....get ready.....here it comes

Who will get the extra game? Gold or Green?

GB gets a 9th home game every other year.  The Green/Gold package alternate who gets it.  So, as a Green Ticket package holder (thanks Tooner!  ) I get an extra home game every 4 years.

Premium ticket holders (Club Seats) gets every extra home game.

From the website:

As a reminder, the NFC and AFC alternate hosting either nine regular-season games and one preseason game (the "9-1" schedule) or eight regular season games and two preseason games (the "8-2" schedule). In odd numbered years, the Packers have the "8-2" schedule. In even numbered years it will be the Packers' turn to have the "9-1" schedule. The international scheduling format has begun an eight-year cycle, which means the Packers will not be designated to play an international game until 2030. However, the team may serve as an opponent for other teams that are designated to play internationally during the eight-year window.

To ensure that this format is equitable for each season ticket package, neither package will be impacted when it comes to their allotment of regular-season games when the Packers play internationally. Gold package will continue to receive two regular-season games and Green package will continue to receive six regular-season games.

In the 2024 season, when the NFC has the "9-1" schedule, the Gold package will receive the ninth home game at Lambeau Field, and the Green package will receive the preseason game. In 2026, when the NFC has the "9-1" schedule again, it will be the Green package holders' turn to receive the ninth home game at Lambeau Field, and the Gold package will receive the preseason game.

Of course overseas games will affect the year count. 2024 will be the 4th year of 17 game schedule, but the Packers have yet to have a 9th home game. 2022 schedule replaced the home game with London.

The mathematician knows!

On Philly sports radio today, hosts were trying to figure out who the Eagles will play in Brazil. They do not think it will be a division opponent - so no Dallas, Washington, or Giants.  They don’t think it will be intra-state rival Pittsburg.  The most common choice was the Packers, but they hope it would be Carolina or Atlanta.

I always have a problem remember when it is leap year. I had someone last week tell me the way to always know is if it is a presidential election year. Every presidential election year is leap year. I did not know that or never put it together. You can learn something when you are old.

fala português ?

Dolphins have the international marketing rights for Brazil, but they're not on the Eagles schedule for 2024. The Mighty Green Bay Packers didn't buy into any of these foreign markets...because they don't have to.

Probably an evil plot to get one more day of campaigning in.

European "Home" Teams

2024 Opponents

Four of the away opponents are hosting international games:

London - Chicago, Minnesota, Jacksonville

Brazil - Philadelphia

As others have said, based on the popularity draw of the Packers, I would be stunned if the Pack is NOT playing in Brazil (the NFL wants a marquee matchup for this first-ever host city).

Summer Olympics too.

Soon everyone from Madrid to Seville to Barcelona will be screaming "Los Osos Todavia Apestan!  ( The Bears Still Suck). Count on it! It might be an easy way to get people, in Chicago, to learn Spanish!

Portuguese?

I worked at a place that was 'staffed' by Brazilians.
Really nice guys and girls.
That's when I learned that Portuguese was their dominant language.
They taught me "boiola" and "bicha louca".

Spanish, Polish, accented English, and the green back. Those are the languages in Chicago.

tudo bem with a figa?

My initial thought: God, I hope it's not the Packers.

But after thinking about it, I actually hope it is for a few reasons:

-Prime Time game that I can watch

-Avoid playing in Philly with a hostile crowd (basically a neutral field game)

-With it being the first game of the season, there's less of a chance of it disrupting the daily/weekly schedule of the team. They would probably get to Brazil several days in advance (if not more) and have better time to adjust to time change, etc.

-Long travel wouldn't have the impact during the season that traveling to Europe does.

-Season opener overseas doesn't impact in-season bye which would almost certainly happen for a game in Europe.

I'm all for it!!
